I was considering purchasing a borla exhaust for my brand new rx8 and i was wondering if anyone might have some sound clips or videos of how it sounds.

This isn't my video clip, so I don't take any credit for it.. but I happened to have it on my computer, and have uploaded it to my server for you to view.

Here is a quicktime video of the borla. Just keep in mind the popping noises don't really happen unless you rev to 7k+ rpm then drop down to 4k range.

You may want to right-click, save as.

sounded purty good, but wouldnt it pop everytime you rev? i mean i know only time you really hear it is the drop from 7k to 4k but that sounds kinda bad IMO, other than that... SWEET

I don't know about you, but I don't rev the engine for no reason.

Thus during normal driving I never hear any popping.

I admit, I dont know jack about car mechanics, but what is the pop? Isnt it some sort of backfire due to fuel mixture? Meaning, it's not good?

It's because the high rpms inject more fuel. When you drop off in rpms....

You guys are showing your age. The RX-7 guys are thrilled to shoot flames. To them, the pop is a good thing.

Hey I love the Pop and the Flames!! Is borla the only exhaust that'll do this? I think I've rounded my choices down to either the Borla, B&B, or the Greddy. Any final comments? And please....let me know about the flame thing I MUST be ABLE to do that!!!

I just heard a Borla equipped 8 today. I don't know how anyone thinks they are loud. I personally think they are very quiet. Compared to the stock system it is loud but compared to the stock system a farting mouse is loud. This car even had the Random Tech high flow cat and no resonator so it should have been really loud by all accounts on the forum. It isn't. I didn't hear it under full throttle but at idle and cruising you'd be hard pressed to tell the car didn't come with that sound. It's just loud and low enough to be very nice but not dominant. It is a subtle rumble but there are so many louder cars that that. My 84 RX-7 with the stock muffler is louder if that tells you anything.

The one thing I didn't like about the way this car sounded is that it was very raspy. It was very Honda ricer raspy sounding. Very annoying. I attribute this to the midpipe though as this is what many others have said here. The tone of the system was nice, it wasn't too loud or too quiet. My only complaint is that rasp. Luckily it isn't the muffler.

I too have the high flow cat and mid pipe w/ the borla. It's too loud for my tastes--it sets have car alarms in my office garage when I rev-it up the ramps. I love the way it sounds at startup and at certain rpm's, but for the most part it's way too raspy.

At 80 mph (4000k) on the freeway it really starts droning--very annoying.

It's a great exhaust I'm just not happy with for the configuration I have. It will likely be for sale hear shortly.

Ben Hold off on that a bit, Ben. I'm looking into solutions with Borla and other sources.

Ben where do you live in Houston? It was a Houston car I heard yesterday that was getting it's windows tinted by my friend Gary at GMS. Was it yours? I was wondering if that car belonged to a forum member.

rotarygod,

I live in the city between Downtown and the Galleria near Memorial Park. However I grew up in Northwest Houston.

Yes that was my car at GMS! Funny, small world--my car was there between 11:30am and 7:00pm.

I told Gary "rotarygod" gives you a good recommendation. I'm not sure if he knows your RX8club handle or not because he looked at me kind of funny. I was rushed to get back to work so I checked out my car and took off.

Omicron,

Today I went home and looked at the stock exhaust and noticed just how bad it's already rusting. After doing a double take I don't think I'll sell it.

Good decision. I am going to try to solution this next week, as I just found a muffler shop I think can handle it.
