Use smaller filter on intake?
I just installed my K&N intake and I’m on the fence about the sound. It is loud at times, which I don’t mind, except it’s not the sound I was hoping for – it almost sounds “cheap” IMO. My girlfriend isn’t too thrilled with it either.
I was wondering if I went to a smaller filter would it diminish the sound? From K&N’s oval filter to a round tapered filter; for example RF-1035:

For reference: This is the filter that comes with the kit:

Any thoughts on this?
Also, it does not necessarily have to be a K&N replacement filter…
Thanks.

Less filtering area, more restrictive...
I like the Apexi they use on the 3rd gen, it's a dry element so no oily mess. It was tested and found to be the best in filtering capabilities as well as flow.

I did a search on that as well. It seems it is loud as well. However their filter only looked a bit smaller than the K&N and it still had the oval shape.
I'm just wondering if a round tapered filter will change the sound...
EDIT:
Pic of RE intake...
