Have any of you experienced your CD player screwing up as a result of using burned CDs?
I have an Accord and this happened to me. At first I had no clue what was wrong...stick a CD in and I hear clicking and then the player just spits out the CD. I took it to an audio shop and the sales rep told me that hes seen this before and that can happen when trying to play burned CDs in a factory deck....the deck literally breaks.

Mine works fine w/CD-Rs. Try recording at maybe x10 to x16 speed instead of the normal max drive speed. Seems to work better when playing back in an audio only player.

ok thanks....
It doesn't change the fact that my deck is busted, but I'll remember that for future reference.

I can't see how a read only drive could break reading a disk. It's got to be something else.
I've been using burned cd-r's since I got mine... no clue what speed my laptop (winxp) burned the disks at though.

I had a 2000 Accord before my RX-8 and never had a problem with burned disks. I mostly used Yamaha CDRs. In the RX-8, I've used the same Yamaha's and also some Verbatim "Digital Vinyl" CDRs with no problems at all.

I don't see any way it can break your deck. Some CD players (usually but not always older models) do have trouble playing CD-R or CD-RW however.

My RX-8 has the BOSE 6-CD changer and has no problems with CD-R at all. I use samsung 'black' CDs which are nice (car is black too so I love it  ) AND I use also CD-RW as audio CDs!! Everything works much better than I thought...

Sounds like the salesman was well adept at audio voodoo.
There are absolutely no reasons a well manufactured deck should break soley due to the use of CD-R (or even CD-RW) discs. They will either succeed in tracking the disc, or fail trying to read the calibration track and reject the disc.
If the deck broke, it was because it was a POS, not because you used a CD-R.

most new OEM head units should be able to read CD-R/RW with no problem.
older OE stereos, that's another story...

A CD player is a CD player (as far as the general components are concerned, type and quality of the laser can vary a lot.). I am not sure who make the honda units but alpine used build fords higher end head units. BTW I am talking about units that can actually read CDR media not comparing ones that can to ones that can't.
Maybe the CD was warped a little wobbled when it was spun and the wobble struck something inside?

Why not take it to the dealer and show them the problem? I am sure they would replace it under warranty.
I've been playing CD-Rs in mine since I bought it and it's fine.
I'm installing the MP3 player this weekend, so I'll have an extra base CD unit... :)
