Angry Stage 1.1 with ZERO GAIN

I installed my canzoomer stage 1.1 today, took me about 1 hour to do the installation. Its not extremely easy to install, espically putting the ECU back into the ECU box without the top cover. However, despite all the hardwork, I installed the ECU and was extremely eager to try out the new computer.

Did the DSC recalibration and went out for a drive. However, I was surprised. I didn't feel any type of gain at all. Is it because the ECU needs time to learn.

I mean, I had my friend do a blind test on me. I told him to go out the ECU and flip it to either on or off, well, I wasn't able to make out the difference. I am going to call Canzoomer and ask him what's up.

I remember him saying there are certain problems with certain cars. Maybe becasue my car has an M flash .. that's why.. dun know man... going to find out tomorrow

Re: Stage 1.1 with ZERO GAIN

It should'nt feel much different unless you are very sensative. They tried to maintain smoothness over the entire rev range, so there is no kick or anything. .. try some gtech or track runs..

Also, try looking at the RPM needle. it should move a little faster.

Mine does.

You will only "feel" the difference at 6k or above. Turn it off and go for a drive -- rev it to 6k in 2nd and step on the gas (remember the "feel") -- Turn it on and do the same thing -- if you can't FEEL the DIFFERENCE something is very very wrong with either your unit or your sensory perception

Actually they were saying the new flash adds more HP over the range of the rpms, debate has raged as to whether it still gives the same peak HP... No one really knows for certain however.

I am convinced that the new flash has less peak power. Low end is stronger. In normal driving situations the car is more responsive. Gas mileage is up. Peak power down.

0-60 is half a second slower and the g-timer says the loss is at the high end.

I think the flash is worth getting because 0-60 is quite unrelated to day to day driving. Passing is quicker, mileage better. I am happy.

Canzoomer's mod fixes the high end and then some, if that is important.

(I hope you mean without the plastic heat sink. The ECU box cover goes back on and holds the ECU and piggyback unit together in the ECU box.)

I have the L reflash and I didn't notice a change at all. if anything it seems like my gas mileage went down.

I have the same problem with my Stage 1. I can not tell any power difference. There is no Kick like I have felt in earlier stage 1 cars. Maybe they have gotten rid of the kick, but its sorely missed. I like feeling when my car is faster than before. I'll just keep driving it and see.

hmm... this is interesting.... did anyone mention this earlier? Howcome, only now people are saying this. However, I talked to Canzoomer and he said this IS suppose to happen. We are suppose to NOT feel a difference unless we are very sensitive. However, now, I actually do feel a difference. Now like I am tryign to save my own face and say I have a very sensitive butt actually.... but I think it takes time for the computer to learn (our original ECU)...

why I think that...

well, today (2nd day with the new ecu).. I took my car for a longer drive.. and I noticed that at the low rpms the car is kinda UNsmooth... it feels like I am gasing and letting go really quickly when actually my foot was planted to the floor. This happened only when I was on 3rd gear or above. I was really fustrated, cause I thoguht my computer was a lemon.... BUT... after another 2 hours of drive... those feelings started to go away and the accelearation above 5000 does seem a little quicker ... so I am a happy sailor now.... its all good.

I think what I am tryign to say is.. let the car settle for about 3 to 4 days before you draw conclusions. It does take time for the RX8's ECU to learn... and for someone impatient like me.... its kinda tough... but guess what... respect the 8 and it will respect you...

I immediately noticed a difference in the smoothness of the engine through the powerband. I could no longer feel the intake stage open. Look back at the thread where canzoomer posted the A/F ratios in each gear. His abilty to correct this ratio isn't as substantial in the lower gears (1-2) sligthly noticable in 3rd, but IMO very noticible in 4-6 especially where the stock L flash transitioned from lean to rich. My mileage has improved to 21 mpg from an 18.5 average. I've put about 400 miles on the car since installing the unit and I am very happy with it. No you don't feel a kick, but the power is there as I have been able to stay with or leave cars that I wasn't able to before (not a street racing plug moderators).

Talking

i immediately noticed the difference after installing the stage 1 kit a week ago. ( i put 700 miles on it last week .. i just couldnt not drive it after the the stage 1 mod :D )

Everyday on our way to work, my brother will put almost 4 cars length on my 8 in his s2k. but now with the stage 1, he barely pull away from me. ( < 1/2 a car)

cant wait to compliment the stage 1 with cz exhaust mods.

Once I get my CZ1 (who knows when that will be) I'll be taking my 8 back to Atco. That will tell me exactly what the difference is. My baseline runs were 14.8 with a 2.3 60'.

I'm wondering, did you drive it for 15 minutes like they say, for the computer to relearn?

It seems possibly not initially, which is why your second post noticed that you are feeling something...

Computer shouldnt have anything TO relearn. CZ's mod works after the computer - it doesnt know a thing about it.

Hey Shebam,

Did you get the updated flash installed yet? I'm still waiting on my cable kit. Is the new flash posted yet on his site?

I've got the goods but in my first attempt zigged when I should have zagged. So I think the unit's programmed as an iPod at the moment. Maurice sent me some updated instructions and will try 'em tonight. He doesn't have the ftp stuff up yet but is working on it -- he was out of town all last week, which means being away from the main business too. Will let ya know.

Those are them, and they're pretty good. Re the plastic screws holding some wires to the outside of the box, prying them up works better than trying to squeeze the bottom of the screw together. Hardest part is squeezing the ends of the big wire-connector plugs to unfasten them the ECU, but you'll get the hang of it. A search can turn up a few more tips.

I don't know anything about "Shouldn't have to". I only know what I've read - and in multiple places within CZ's forum, there are comments and directions indicating that you have to drive for around 15 minutes before you'll actually feel the difference in the mod.

SUCCESS. This is by far the best combination of smoothness and power -- I've now had the K flash with the first Stage 1 and the L/M flash with the "March" and "April" Stage 1 updates. No WOT yet (residential neighborhoods), but at aggressive part throttle tonight it felt wonderful.
