a-pec mazdaspeed kit

I love how the mazdaspeed kit looks and am totally looking forward to getting it within a month or so but the plastic bar in front of the a spec version is the only thing that is bothering me. Is it true that the jdm version is made without that plastic bar? If so who would supply this version. Also is there any other visual differences between the two ? sorry if this was ask more than once. I did a search but found no answers. thanks in advance.

I've been trying to get the answer to that question myself...as I have the same concerns. Maybe that "black plastic bar" is removable, but if so does it screw up the grille? I even called and emailed Rosenthall Mazda, but they claimed ignorance. Someone has to know!

I am sure you could cut it out -- it didn't have an easy way to remove it that I saw -- you would also have to get a new piece of mesh to recover the larger front grill opening and paint the white foam that is behind the black plastic piece - you also would have no way of mounting a front plate if you were ever required to do so. To be honest will you -- I didn't the black piece when I put the kit on -- but in the last two weeks since the install I haven't even noticed it once.

Did the plastic piece appear to be bolted or snapped in? If it is removable, getting more grill material and painting or coating the white foam wouldnt be too much to do.

I've got the GT package and am living with the front end...waiting for the MS kit after I get answers to these types of questions!

Thanks

The reason the us-spec bumper has that is the us-spec cars have a larger front crach bumper which needs to be hidden. If you remove the black bar or get a j-spec kit you will still have to cover up the crash bumper on your car or have it be a huge eyesore.

Here's a picture of the Mazdaspeed Aspec bumper. Notice the black plastic in the center grill. Japan version doesn't have that.

They don't need it because they don't have the white reinforcement bar(or maybe a much smaller piece).
I think you would have to replace the entire middle mesh and paint the rebar black.

Here's a picture of the US version with the bumper off. The white rebar would show through the grill if the plastic piece wasn't there.

You can use the stock foglights on the MS kit, but you have to buy the brackets which are $70 a pair.

Hmm... that's a thought. Paintingi t body color... but I think just sucking up the black plastic is a better idea.

If there isn't much of a difference in price (including shipping) then I'd say go JDM and have the foam re-bar painted black (or devise some kind of new cover for it!)... especially if you live in a one plate state. As far as plate mounting issues... um Japan is a 2 plate COUNTRY, so there should be a plate mounting kit that comes with the JDM front. Isn't that what we see above in the blue pic (this owner order the JDm kit from Japanparts.com)?

Raise our voices and show with our pocketbooks, Mazda needs a better solution than that crappyass eyesore. Why no make a direct cover for the re-bar INSIDE the bumper???
