View Full Version : Auto dimming mirror
One of my only complaints with the RX8. I'm used to having a "flip"adjustment to the "night" position in a standard rear-view mirror. When the RX8's auto-dimming mirror is in "auto" mode it just doesn't seem to darken enough. Anyone else bothered by this?
I do like having the buttons to control your garage door opener on there though.
Winning_BlueRX8 03-23-2004, 12:18 PM do you have a spoiler? I bought mine without the spoiler and had it installed later. The spoiler interefered with the auto dimmer, so I had to aim the mirror slightly higher than normal. Works fine now.
RX-8Mania 03-23-2004, 12:25 PM My car has no auto-dimming mirror. You're so lucky. My previous BMW and Mercedes have it and I want one for my RX-8. Is your mirror wired or it's just attached to the front windshield with no wiring involved? I'm thinking about ordering it.
JimJimElf 03-23-2004, 04:11 PM My auto dimming mirror works great. I am so glad I don't have to flip it at night. Since I would always forget to flip it back in the morning when I am still half asleep.

maybe yours is defective? Probably worth having looked at...mine gets pretty dang dark. A very dark green.
realdeal 03-23-2004, 04:29 PM you sure yours is on? mine is really dark. there should be a green light on the mirror when it is on.
jniamehr 03-23-2004, 04:34 PM My spoiler also got in the way just raise the mirror a few notches and your good to go
Maybe I'm being too nit-picky. My wife insists that it works fine. I DO like how it works in twilight situations where the normal night mirror setting would be too dark. I just find myself instinctively reaching up to "flip" it when some yahoo has his high-beams on in back of me, only to realize that it's already as dark as it's going to get.
Oh well, it's just a small issue and overall I'm really enjoying the car!
airmanos 03-24-2004, 01:16 PM where can i buy the auto-dimming mirror?
My RX8 doesnt have it
Outlaws eXtreme 03-24-2004, 01:24 PM It's with the GT package when you bought the car.
airmanos 03-24-2004, 01:52 PM here in Greecev we dont have this GT Package :(
Pinhy 03-24-2004, 09:54 PM it is called the Sport Package here in FL. I liked it for the first three days i had the car......now it never kicks on at all....might be due to the 5% limo tint on the rear window though ;-)
just add tint and your problems are solved. i am wishing i could turn it off and KEEP it off...it comes back on everytime you restart the car!
khoney 03-24-2004, 10:00 PM Mine doesn't seem to get very dark, either. I see a minor difference between it and the side-view mirror. I wish mine got darker too (and no, I don't have a spoiler).
Charles Cope 03-25-2004, 05:07 AM If the standard mirror mounts the same as the autodimming one, I'd swap for the manual style. Send me a picture of your manual mirror mounting if you're interested in a straight swap!
weiweiwei 03-26-2004, 01:52 AM what does the dimming function do anyways?
i don't have a rx8 but then alot of cars i've driven has the dimming function, just that I never use it because I use those wide view mirror attachments
HiTMaNN 03-26-2004, 01:54 AM mine works great also im loving my 8

There is a sensor that, when activated, automatically darkens the rear-view mirror when it senses bright light, for instance when the person behind you is using their high-beams. The concept is cool, I just wish it would darken a little more when it's active.
I love my auto-diming mirror. Mine goes exactly the correct darkness and I do not have the spoiler. I find that the colour of the dim is slightly green.
