melstar57 11-14-2003, 04:17 AM Hi, next month around december something I should be getting a new car...the only thing is my budget is around 24ish. I was looking at the M6 first but hey why not the rx-8 right? just hoping its not too far out of reach heh...so how much did you pay for your rx-8??

melstar57 11-14-2003, 03:23 PM wow sounds like its gonna be pretty cloose....it has to be the 6speed for sure...soo hopefully all goes well and you'll see more of me in the future!
RobnEdie 11-14-2003, 07:56 PM Check E-Bay. Six RX-8s have sold for from $24,300 to $29,950. They were generally won by someone who can't, for some reason, keep it. One man surprised his wife on her birthday, but she wanted something different. It may be worth a look if you are close to maxing out your budget. Good luck.

I'd say so. You paid $1,120 under INVOICE which is by far better than anyone has paid.
You not only paid less than what the dealership paid, but you also got most of the Mazda dealer incentive as well. They made no money on you at all.
People that work at dealerships don't get that kind of price.
Unless, of course, you got a buy-back car...
Efini 8 11-15-2003, 06:54 AM $33000 w/ tax&license&otherbs included. GT package - 6speed. Pre-Ordered.

Well, you can't avoid the taxes, but you don't have to pay the other fees.
I paid the 5% state tax and the Mazda $520 destination fee (that is included in the invoice price, anyway) and that is it.
Did the tags myself.
rxeighter 11-15-2003, 04:57 PM It's not a buy-back car. I ordered the car, and it hasn't came in yet. I realize what kind of deal it is. I sell cars also, and I sell cars to the owner of the this Mazda dealership. My taxes, fees, etc. will be $770. The price included destination.

Where did you buy yours at? I'm worried my local dealership is gonna try and pop me at full MSRP. I'm about 80 miles north of Los Angeles
Tamas 11-18-2003, 11:05 AM $28100 for the configuration in my sig. This is before taxes and fees, but including the $500 destination charge.
tadams 11-22-2003, 05:20 PM I just bought mine last night. Selma Mazda (near Fresno Ca) matched the S Plan price: $28,508 plus tax/license. Plus I get the $500 college rebate on top of that.
2004 Mazda RX-8
GTP, Velocity Red (MSRP $31,100)
doccable 11-24-2003, 11:25 AM 31.8k. Did internet search, shopped for three weeks, talked, and e-mailed with eight different dealers, finally found one 250 miles away that not only loaded up on the options, but delivered it to my door. The MSRP was around 34.7k, so it is possible to find one cheaper. The option list includes the complete spare tire, 6-disc changer, aero package, rotary accents, moonroof wind deflector, spoiler, and GT package. There is probably more, but I can't remember. It pays to shop online!
I just realized that taxes were $1900, plates were $550. Even though I bought it from a dealership in another state, (CO), I didn't have to pay thier taxes, only the local taxes, (6%). The only other thing I had to pay was the dealers $400 handling fee. I would also advise to check with your tax person, I know that the plates can be used as a write-off, (Federal taxes, Wyoming has no state tax). :D
So, total for car, taxes, fees, etc ended up being right around the MSRP.
cruzdreamer 11-24-2003, 04:50 PM $500 below MSRP
jleni 12-05-2003, 02:48 PM Hi... I live in the Washington DC metro area and am considering a 6 speed rx8. One local dealer is selling them for 1000. over invoice[not msrp]. Is this the best deal I can expect on one of these. I appreciate any input forum members can provide. Thanks alot!
Buckeye3d 12-05-2003, 03:10 PM With a little effort you should be able to get one right at invoice or slightly above.

In September I paid < 3% over invoice. Today with year end and lots of dealer stock Invoice should be realistic
Genshie 12-05-2003, 08:31 PM No reason why you cant get below dealer invoice. You have to pit 5 or so dealers against each other and see which one is the most desperate. You gotta love capitalism. Remember too that some of these dealerships are getting rebates, so dealer invoice price isnt always exactly that.
Something to think about. I am planning to go in to 5 dealerships and start at invoice and work down from there!

Sea Ray 12-05-2003, 09:01 PM Tell them you are going to do the S-Plan, which is just a few $ under invoice, and that you have not got your Pin# yet from your friend. My dealer actually said that it would be all right even if I did not get the #.
But I did get the Pin# so I will go in tommorrow and look at the car with check book in hand. If I like the one with Chap leather, I will buy it. If not I will go to another dealer that has the red/black leather and buy it. If you are going for invoice price, most dealers will not want to do a dealer trade, so you have to choose from stock generally.
Good Luck!
alphapenguin 12-06-2003, 01:55 AM shoot for invoice or lower.
alphapenguin:
shoot for invoice or lower.
If any dealership is willing to sell at invoice or less, then invoice is apparently not their true cost. I would like to hear about any info out there as to what the dealer is actually being billed.
Without this knowledge, we are negotiating in a fog.
spdspappy 12-06-2003, 09:25 AM My co-worker bought a Touring Package w/ spoiler, 6-disc CD changer, cargo net, 6 spd, & they even threw in a 12-disc CD changer after-market install for $28,200. We now have 2 Winning Blue RX8's in our parking lot (when I drive mine to work that is...).
1BADZ06 12-06-2003, 09:46 AM My friend just went and bought one from a local dealer and got a GT packaged one for 2000$ off MSRP. call around, and also be willing to drive to get one.
zoomzoom1 12-06-2003, 10:44 AM i just bought my sunlight silver 6-speed with the gt package the other night. i paid invoice +1% which worked out to be about 2500 under msrp.

Sea Ray 12-06-2003, 05:18 PM I did buy mine today on the S-plan, which is invoice (or someones invoice). I had talked with my local dealer and his car had 250 miles on it, which I didn't care for so I bought one at the other dealer.
Anyways, less than an hour after I did the deal, and was driving away, this first dealer called and offered the one with 250 miles to me for $1000 UNDER invoice! I would have lived with the miles for that kind of money. If salesmen would just offer the best dealt to start with, it would be much easier.
TheColonel 12-06-2003, 05:54 PM How much did you pay for your RX-8 in relation to the invoice? Also, where are you and what packages did you get?
I don't want to overpay for mine.... :D

I mean the published invoice price, I was able to get mine for 500$ over the published invoice and the "invoice price" on their list they had (which matched the one on edmunds and KBB). I was lucky enough to get the 500$ grad rebate too.
Just go low as possible.
rx8ntexas 12-06-2003, 06:53 PM I think there is a few other threads about this...you might do a search...I have a silver 6 speed, GT, red/black leather, Navigation...the sticker was $33,100...i paid $32,800 with tax and everything...they threw in a free spoiler and moon roof wind deflector that they installed a few weeks later...I got a pretty good deal, but I do all the PC/Network work for the dealership so consider that

Exactly what we're doing for ours. The deal is $500 over KBB invoice (which matches the dealer invoice price on the S-Plan spec sheet), plus my wife just graduated for the $500 grad rebate.
Sea Ray 12-06-2003, 09:19 PM My sticker was $35,504 and I paid 32,156 + tax. The base bse for the model is $24,659 and all the options were 20% off.

Who said anything about driving to all 5? PHONE, baby! Call them. Unless you are honestly getting offers from other dealerships, if you bluff about what another dealer will sell it to you for, and the sales guy calls your bluff, you are gonna look like the dumb ass. It isn't hard to send 5 faxes to 5 dealerships letting them know exactly what you want, at what price, and that they will be competing with 4 other dealerships. It is exactly like a formal bid process when businesses compete for government contracts. The government controls the negotiation and situation, not the businesses. Same thing here.
Going to one dealer and trying to hardball is a bad idea. You have no power in that situation. Options give you power. And power gives you capability to command the price you want.

As far as the invoice price and any current factory-to-dealer incentives, those are available all over the place on the internet. However, you're never going to be able to know what a dealer paid for one specific vehicle on their lot, because there is no one specific price that all dealers are charged for a given car. For example, if a dealer pre-ordered a large number of RX-8's before they even came out, it's likely that the dealer got a discount off the regular invoice. Some other dealers with various other connections might have managed to get some sort of discount from the factory as well. And then some dealers paid the exact invoice price.
If the invoice price of a given RX-8 is $28,574, one dealer may have bought it for $27,900, another dealer may have bought it for $28,400, and then there are other dealers who paid exactly $28,574 for the car. But there's no way you're going to be able to find out what any particular dealer bought a car for, short of breaking into the dealership at night and going through their files.
So basically, knowing the invoice price and the current incentives should enable you to get a price similar to what others in your area are paying for similarly equipped cars. If one dealer happened to make an extra couple hundred in profit because they got a discount from the factory, that doesn't mean that you got a bad deal (or that the dealer would have even been willing to give up that extra couple hundred... after all, they're in business to make a profit, not to sell cars for the same price they paid for them).

Thanks to Arcane for posting this link (on "Best Deals?" thread) and thanks to everyone else for providing lots of other good info.
Smack 12-12-2003, 01:10 PM Talking to a workmate of mine who used to work at a dealership about invoice pricing. He told me that even if you pay invoice that number is still padded by a thousand or so. You can request to look at the invoice pricing page, the dealer is required to show it to you. Somewhere on there will be a price they had it hidden between numbers i.e. (AJID25900DKJ) this is different between dealers.
This number is the lowest price that the dealer will sell the vehicle for normally in this case 25900. Its still padded though so they make something just not a lot. This varies by dealership though.

You are going to have to spend at least $27,000 to get a 6-speed. No offense to anyone who bought a auto...I know some people have a diability and can physically drive a stick, in that case what are you going to do.....but it is not even the same car in automatic. If you don't belive me drive them both.....In San Diego couple deals giving pretty large discounts.....Just bought a touring package 8 for $26,995.00...yeah you read it right that's $600.00 back of invoice. They had two and I got the last one(and no they were not yellow, they were both silver)....but if you find one of these loss leader ad cars...know your credit score and make sure you have an idea of what kind of rate you qualify for....because they will try to get back the money on the financing end.
But I'll tell you what even at MSRP the 8 is worth every penny. If you don't have the money yet, don't go drive it....becuase you won't be able to get the car off your muind until you own it!!!!!!!
ZOOM-ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fluque 12-16-2003, 09:37 PM joejoe:
I think most dealers will go slightly above invoice but you really got a pretty good deal. What were yor arguments for such a price?
S-plan was $30900 out the door. Titanium 6 M.T., aero, spoiler and Grand Touring!
Oranje 01-01-2004, 09:21 PM My first post, announcing my 8 purchase. I used the end of year crunch to scour the Boston Rt.128 belt for the best deal. Many dealers had 30-40 cars in stock (128, Ira, Gallery) all hoping to carry a little less inventory into the new year.
After a day or two I picked up my 8 for $100 over invoice! Silver MT ($24,659), G Tour ($3.355), Appearance ($775), 6 CD ($400), Rotary Accent ($111), Cargo Net ($32), DestChrg ($520). Paid $29,952 vs MSRP of $32,849.
Add in another $1,149 for MA sales tax (5%) and registration transfer.
The winning dealer (Ira) came whiskers to Edmunds True Market Value trade for my 2000 Mazda Millennia S with 74K miles.
I'm very pleased with the 8 so far -- at about 100 recorded miles.
BTW -- This forum (which I found 2 weeks ago) rocks.
Happy New Year all,
Oranje
RX-jimenez 01-01-2004, 10:42 PM they are selling me one in Austin, Yellow, GTS, for 28,440., S-Plan so i think this is great ..??? you think????
winebrad 01-01-2004, 11:11 PM $31,950 pretax and lic as equipped below. S-Plan Baby also I know the owner of the dealership.
antichristpm 01-02-2004, 11:58 AM Great to see a lot of other new buyers are getting a great deal. After calling around and a few visits to dealers out here with little (or no) stock I called up Wood Mazda in Santa Rosa. Without even starting to haggle with the price the salesman offered me any car for invoice! So I'm going to wait and call back a little later today and see if he can throw in some free strakes with a car I know he's getting any day now. Hopefully all said and done I'll have a black/black GT package, Nav, appearance, rotary accents, 6 disc, strakes and a spoiler for $31,930.
First thing... Anyone in the CA Northern bay area with a black car who wants to trade trunks? I don't really care for the spoiler.
GeorgeH 01-02-2004, 11:59 AM I also went in search of end-of-the-year deals. There were plenty - the dealer I ended up at had several cars $3750 off MSRP. Most were loaded with GT, appearence packages, etc. I didn't want all that and ended up paying invoice ($26,200) for a Titanium Grey car with Sport package. Reading this thread, it appears that I could have got it a little cheaper, but I'm ecstatic with the car so the last few hundered $$$ don't really bother me.
Of course, immediately after I buy the car the roads freeze and we get our first real snow here in years....
George
I got mine last week in Kentucky, paid 27,200 for GT with touring package and appearance package, spolier, and rotary accent. The sticker on the car was 31,364.
zerobanger 01-06-2004, 03:36 PM I got mine on Dec 30. I got a 6 speed GT model. I have all options except nav, cd changer and appearance package. I even have the spare tire thing.
Paid 29,100 prior to tax (Invoice + 250) came to 31,950 out the door.
GeorgeH 01-06-2004, 06:18 PM I get the impression that there is huge profit for the dealers in the appearence packages, spoilers, and other dealer installed options. I've noticed those cars seem to be the most likely to have big discounts.
S3/P3/E2 01-06-2004, 06:22 PM Looks like I got nearly the same deal you got (12/31) - 6MT w/ spoiler, GT, CD changer, rotary accent for $30,200 OTD. Did have to order my spare tire after the fact though since no one out in So Cal orders them equipped. :( Still happy though! :D
antichristpm 01-07-2004, 12:03 AM Purchased Friday 1/2/04 Bill Lang Mazda in Vallejo, CA.
I haggled with a few dealerships to wind up getting invoice. I guess there are better deals out there in other parts of the country. But I was happy to see invoice.
6spd, Tit-gray, grand touring, NAV, black/red leather, rotary accent, appearence package, spoiler, and cassette.
$31822.00 Invoice
$34443.36 Out the door w/tax & title
The dealership here in Marin wouldn't even budge past $1500 over invoice!
I must say I am totally satisfied with this car and everyone I know just drools over it. I have to add that the Bose system rocks! I don't know what people are on that complain about it. They must listen to some extreme bass or something. I drove home happily listening to Black Sabbath Iron Man (on cassette) with a huge grin on my face.
antichristpm 01-07-2004, 12:04 AM ;-)
epitrochoid 01-17-2004, 02:36 PM antichrist...any idea if that would go for any less on the east coast? you have the EXACT car that i want.
Mr Tate 01-17-2004, 07:52 PM Hi. New to the forum.
I live in Jersey and just got back from the dealership.
Almost bought (leased) the car tonight, but was looking for a better deal.
The car I was looking at was Black, 6 Speed, GT Package, and Spoiler. They were also going to work in the remaining 4 months on my current lease, which amounts to $1,088.
Talking strictly payments here, they were willing to do $370 per month for 39 months with $2,000 due at signing. Does this sound like a good deal or can I do better?
red_rx8_red_int 01-17-2004, 10:35 PM Talking strictly payments is useless! Spend some time researching prices, interest rates, total cost, etc. And make an informed decision.
antichristpm 01-18-2004, 02:53 AM I'd say you should call around and see who has what in stock first. That's what I did. I also didn't screw around and asked the guys if they'd take invoice right away after the first sales person I talked to mentioned that price as a possibility. I think depending on where you live you can definately get it for less than invoice.
willhave8 01-18-2004, 09:51 AM Has anyone tried Carsdirect.com or Autobytel.com???
Carsdirect in Philly area quoting $900 over invoice for 6MT, GT, Rot Accent, Appearance Package. Nav for $1721 which is invoice.

In VA you pay 3% on the total cost from the dealer - including his fees.
(29845 +520+50+299) = 30174 + 3% = 31,635.42
The $299 seems excessive since you are already paying 5 times the cost for a tag.

Awesome deal!!! Tell me did this price include the freight which is normally about $500 bucks??? Let me know thanks...
I just wanted to add in two cents about the deals some of you guys are getting, which are excellent deals but rememebr it all comes down to region
Dealers in different regions have different markups because of what Honda sells the car to them, even if the states are neighboring .. there could be a huge difference in price all just because of the market location, rates, population etc..
Which is why you hear alot of buyers nowadays going out of state buying cars..
Good luck ! And Congrats on your new car Purchases !!
flatso 02-03-2004, 12:52 PM Is NJ a good region for car prices?
Its pretty competitive, being we have huge inventories and most dealer networks here in NJ, we outsell many other states combined just beasue of the large based population of consumers we have here..
However I haev to say that PA and DE, are very price competive and possibly give you a little bit better deals but thats mainly becasue of the tax and DMV rates, so its really see what you can get.. and make a deal

Rotarian_SC 02-03-2004, 09:22 PM Well here in South Carolina i got a pretty good deal. I got the car for 25k w/ my '97 Honda CRV trade-in. I got velocity red, black interior, GT package, 6 in dash and exhaust finish. My Honda had over 200k mi on it and i still got that much for it. KBB was invaluable as they not only offered invoice on the 8 but the invoice of each individual option. I bought Vic Bailey, I would have gone w/ John Finger if Vic Bailey didn't give me 25k. My CRV was given a 4.5k Blue Book Price, but i belive i saw the dealer accidentally type $5400 on his computer instead, so that may have affected how much below MSRP i got.

Rotary787 02-07-2004, 09:54 AM This is my first post although I have been lurking here since just after I bought my car on 26 Jan. It is Red RX-8 MT GT with appearance & rotary accents plus rear wing, 6CD & Cassette.
I think I got a good deal, but I think in the Atlanta area the deals are pretty good.
I paid approximatly 30,910 - 1500 lease rebate. The 48 month lease payments are 400 plus tax.
I had it negotiated without the cassette to 30,600 -1500, which was approximatly 300 above invoice then add the 1500 lease for 29,100. The morning I bought it, I added the cassette by impulse (for 210 + 100 labor). At the time I was so excited, money become like chips at a poker table.
After reading this forum, if I had it to do over I would get and install the cassette later. My main purpose for the cassette was to get an aux in (Either through a tape or by mods). After reading the forum, it is obvious I should be installing it myself if I want to mod it.
VikingDJ 02-09-2004, 03:38 AM I just purchased my Black on Black rx8 on February 6th. Here is what I got: Msrp: 35,844. I paid 32,574 which is $3270 off msrp and $114 above KBB invoice. Looking at the others on here I'd say I did pretty good. I live in PA but traveled to NJ, and found the exact one I wanted online, and the guy just threw me a no haggle email quote. I went there, test droveit , and said DONE DEAL. Only options I did not get are cargo tray, cargo carrier, and all weather floor mats. I purchased the all weather floor mats separately for $70, and am having them install the alarm shock sensor upgrade for $189.95. For an extra $170 and got the $5000 extra payout insurance if car is stolen during warranty period. When all was said and done after taxes, tags, and add ons, I walked out of there with my dream car for 35,300. I am on cloud nine, and the second I drove that thing I knew I wasn't leaving without it.
Overport 02-17-2004, 09:57 PM the dealer sucked
i was on my way out the door
salesperson came running
told me "$29,500 FULLY loaded with EVERY option"
i said ok....i'll stick around, lets do this.

Holly 02-18-2004, 05:39 AM Total 24,000
matt7 02-18-2004, 05:59 PM Got mine in late December, 26,800 (950 under invoice). Drove a hard bargain, because they had many on the lot, and I told them it would be staying in the garage in the winter (which unfortunately has pretty much been the case with the weather in central New Jersey). Hoping to drive it the next couple days.
I'm one of those people that has to feel I got a good deal, or else I won't be happy.
Sport, Appearance, Spoiler, spare tire. Couldn't get leather/moonroof because I'm tall and couldn't fit.
I could have waited, but wasn't sure the car would be there in the spring, and they didn't have many in my color without GT package, which I needed because of my height.
SpacerX 02-18-2004, 07:16 PM Will be taking delivery tomorrow. Black 6MT Sport w/ spare tire kit and a couple extra doo-dads. All I really wanted was the basic 6MT Sport -- the rest is gravy.
Paying $26900 (~150 over invoice), then taking $500 off for graduate program (finishing a second masters degree in June). Dealer (McGough Mazda in Montgomery AL) is also including a modestly extended powertrain warranty (5-yr/100K miles, versus 4-yr/48K).
Total with taxes will be $27984. Being military, we love being able to get the Florida resident 6.5% sales tax -- local Alabama tax is 10%
Sandi and I are really excited!
I'm days from buying one. So far the best deal I have is 700 over invoice for GT, appearance, spoiler and MP3 player. Of course on top of that I will add new grads program and will try to get the 1500$ lease option.
Where does the $1500 lease rebate come from? The dealer I went to today had never heard of it though I don't plan on leasing the car.
SpacerX 02-20-2004, 10:26 PM A final update: we found that sales tax in Alabama for new car sales is only 3.5%:D
Our final payout (price + tax - rebate) was $27516 for 60 months at 3.9%... yields about $505/month -- we're very pleased. We'll most likely end up paying it off much sooner.
The folks at McGough Mazda here in Montgomery were great!
Ciao!
MaCh-8 03-05-2004, 09:10 AM i was wondering how much i should pay for a RX8 with the sports package. i dont want to get ripped off and shit.. the dealer told me. 27000 and after financing it would be around 31k.. is that too much i think it is.. but let me know guys what a good price would be..thanks

dankgummy 03-05-2004, 10:36 AM search this topic. there are TONS of threads....
Katchoo 03-05-2004, 01:04 PM Sport A/T: 2% over invoice
As I remember it was right at 30K.
If you are looking at paying more than 2-3% over invoice you need to try an on-line buying service like USAA. They will get that price...and once there you may be able to do even better.
Mistryl 03-05-2004, 01:12 PM i got $300 over invoice on my car.
md_guy 03-05-2004, 01:25 PM Check http://www.edmunds.com/ for invoice pricing and go from there. Keep in mind that dealers sometimes will treat freight as an additional expense even though it's included in invoice. Also, the true invoice may be higher than what Edmunds shows - my dealer's invoice had a $200 advertising fee that Edmunds doesn't include because it's a regional charge.
I'm wondering what "27k, 31k after financing" means, exactly. Presumably the 27k is before tax/tags/etc., but 4k is a lot of tax and tag fees. Does the 31k include loan interest or something?
chinx 03-05-2004, 01:43 PM hey did you guys notice, msrp just went down a bit, according to mazdausa.com! the base 6mt is now 26680; a couple days ago it was 27200
ByeByeSaturn 03-05-2004, 02:06 PM I noticed that too. I got excited until I realized that they just took off the $520 destination charge, which you still have to pay.
In the Bay Area, GT RX-8s are going for below invoice, or even others as long as they are on the lot. Go on the last day of March to the dealership(s) that have the car you want and you'll get the best deal.
I got my M/T Sport + Rotary for $150 over Edmund's invoice. That $150 is part of the dealer invoice. It is actually an advertising fee but the dealer will plead ignorance on it, and say they have to pass it on. Regardless, I got exactly what I wanted, and what I wanted was hard to find, so I'm happy. I gave in b/c the other dealer that had what I wanted wanted $500 more.
Nah. It hasnt changed. Add 520 for destination fee and you get the same price.
MaCh-8 03-05-2004, 02:42 PM yea the dealer said with a 5% interest rate.. it would be 31k.. i dont think he added the taxes and other fees. the 31k is mainly on interest. he said he's marked it up 788.00 above what he bought it for.. anyone in the colorado area?
Maximus 03-05-2004, 03:42 PM here (http://www.rx8club.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=56)
RevRaz 03-05-2004, 04:10 PM Everything is a factor... Location, your credit, small options..etc. I paid $27,888 and got 4.89% financing.
Rev,
Who did you finance with?
MaCh-8 03-05-2004, 06:28 PM i just want to know what you guys paid out the door.. the dealer was quoting me 31k .. out the door. and thats just the car with sports package
VikingDJ 03-05-2004, 09:12 PM I paid 35000 out the door ( 32574 + tax + tags) This is with 6MT GT package, app pack, rotary accent, rear wing, spare tire, cargo net, moonroof wind deflector, nav system, 6 dis changer, cassette deck. Only thing I didn't get was all weather floor mats, cargo tray and cargo net. It all depends on where you live, on how you find best deals.
2001F4S 03-05-2004, 09:42 PM I got mine for $31K out the door with GT, NAV, 6-Disk, Spoiler, Appearance Pack, Accents, trunk liner, cargo net, trunk organizer.
But I paid cash for all but $5K of the car.
SpacerX 03-05-2004, 09:51 PM Negotiated $26,900 (invoice +1.5%); $500 "Graduate" Rebate; total w/ taxes came to $27,516; financed through BoA at 3.9% for 60 months. We're very satisfied with the deal, especially because of the minimal hassle we had with the sales staff.
RevRaz 03-05-2004, 10:51 PM At the time I signed the dealer papers, he said he had 2 Company's he was deciding on putting me under. So honestly I'm not sure yet, I got my first payment delayed 60 days.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I always considered OUT THE DOOR what you paid for car including tax and tags and other fees after all was said and done. If you got it for 31k before taxes and tags, you maye have the best deal to date (that's about $1200 below invoice) which I have yet to see on this site anywhere. CONGRATS. I assume you meant you got car for 31k, then paid taxes and tags on top of that bringing total somewhere near the 34k range.
I have to ask this since im thinking of getting a new RX8
about the college graduate rebate, i read somewhere that you can be either a junior or senior ( within 2 years of graduation ) to qualify if your enrolled in a 4 year college ( BS degree ), is that correct?
azrx8 03-07-2004, 03:04 PM Paid $25,838.18 Out of the Door for a Titanium Grey Automatic Base model. OTD includes everything.
I got S-Plan pricing + the $500 college grad rebate.
This car is as exciting as my VStar.
Today i got quoted $26,961
6 MT manual/ sports package.
is that a good deal?
I paid 27,200 for 6 MT, sport package, disc changer. Plus 3% sales tax, plus tags of around $200. That's it. I could have done a bit better if I had haggled longer. MSRP was 28,900.

Not sure on the +/- 2 years. I can't recall the details of the rebate program. My rebate was related to my earning a second masters degree (this June). I believe you may have to be within +/- 6 months from your graduation date to qualify. It also applies to students earning an associates degree.
I recommend talking to a dealer and getting he exact program details (the fine print).
i just read it from Mazda Website.
It can be 2 years for a bs program.
However, the problem that i see is that my Mom is going to buy the car since her credit is way better than mine, i dont think i will apply even though i will be using the car most of the time, the registered owner would my mother, so, i dunno
doccable 03-07-2004, 09:09 PM Financed on-line thru e-loan.com, had decent down payment. Got tremendous deal from dealership 250 miles away...(after internet search, and test drive at close dealership); gt pkg, app pkg, 6-disc, rotary accents, spare tire kit, a few other little goodies... all for the GT price, $31,800. Oh, and they delivered it to me at my office. :D
MaCh-8 03-08-2004, 01:32 PM i got an offer from a dealership for an rx8 with the sports package for 28,765.00 out the door.. to my understanding out the door mean after financing, taxes and all other fees? am i correct and if i am.. is this a good deal?
Thats a pretty good deal, if you take around ~10 % for taxes and registration, its around $26000.
btw is that for the auto or the MT
doccable 03-08-2004, 05:21 PM That is a good deal, although I think I'd make certain about the taxes end of it. Are you buying from Penkus? That's who I got mine from. (I see you're stationed at Ft. Carson). They were quite good to deal with, I wouldn't hesitate to go back there for another car. :) If you are stationed at Ft Carson, P/M me about the Rocky Mountain Club!
Thanks!
-Doccable
MaCh-8 03-10-2004, 02:26 PM ok.. does out the door mean after financing?. cuz now the dealer is telling me its 28,765.00 after taxes and dealership fees.. but not after financing.. now im not too sure about the car.. i feel like im going to get ripped off
SpacerX 03-10-2004, 05:59 PM I've never heard of "out the door meaning anything more than price+taxes. Any "dealer fees" added above the destination charge should be excluded (negotiable).
Re-reading your original post, however, I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal -- $27000 for the 6MT Sport is OK. I paid $26900 for mine, but it also included the spare tire and floormats.
I think Colorado Springs will probably be a bit more expensive market than Montgomery AL, though...
The amount of "finance charges" you'll end up paying will depend on the APR and the term. I f you're able to get anywhere close to 4% or less you're doing rather well (ther aren't any incentives right now).
MaCh-8 03-11-2004, 10:54 AM im pretty sure i have good credit. im 21 and have aboe 700 on credit rating. and im planning to put down like 8Gs as the down payment. i dont know how much the apr is. but i will have to finance it for 5 years if im giong to get it..i really like the car. but i was also thinking of the mazda 3 just because its more affordable. but i dont think im doing that well in getting the price lower. cuz it hasn't dropped. that was his initial price. 28,765.00 before financing.. if anyone in the colorado area wants to help me find a good deal on a new rx8 with the sports package i'd very much appreciate it..
MaCh-8 03-11-2004, 08:11 PM how much do you guys pay average on monthly car payments?
rotary-convert 03-16-2004, 03:00 PM $29,700 for mine....thats 6 speed, appearance pkg, rotary accents, spoiler, grand tourning package and all weather floor mats....
i had the s-plan and college grad discount...imo..good price for what i'm getting
i didn't lease it from the dealer, rather i used a loan from USAA to pay for 2/3 of it......i did the math and i'll be averaging 528 a month(including insurance) w/ 3.59 % interest for 3.5 years
i can hold the payments for a year if i want though.....
its good to still be single
i pick her up saturday :)
MaCh-8 03-17-2004, 10:57 AM in april i should be a new owner of a winning blue rx8 with the sports package, 6 cd changer, appr. package, and rear spoiler.. im getting the car for 28,000.. cant wait..
blue flash 03-17-2004, 11:08 AM i paid$ 32,500 it is winning blueanr has everything viking d has including the all weather mats, leather haeted seats, cargo mat $75 over invoice
legokcen 03-19-2004, 11:39 PM $27,870 for a Nordic Green Touring 6-spd with a spoiler. Used the S-plan and got it for $26 under invoice. They still made about $526 from the Mazda kickback they got for selling the car. Also 3.5% financing. I was pretty happy since I didn't have to negotiate at all. I found the car I wanted, and they told me it was still on the boat getting to America so I had to wait about 3 weeks for it, but it was over the Christmas holidays so when I got back, I had a great Christmas present.
legokcen 03-20-2004, 12:12 AM It stands for Supplier Plan. If your place of work does any business with Mazda or Ford (since Ford owns 35% of Mazda), or has a purchase deal with them, the employees can purchase vehicles at a very low no-haggle price. S-plan prices are right around invoice.
Mazda's term for it is S-Plan, Ford's term for it is X-Plan.
Morning Wood 03-22-2004, 07:28 PM can you guys specify an OTD price? if not just let us know if this is OTD or not. some of these numbers are confusing as hell.
Apathy Curve 03-24-2004, 11:05 AM $635.00 over invoice + TTL. But then I gave them a very well-maintained, low-mileage Trans Am at button-on the KBB value, which is considerably lower than NADA value. So, all things considered, it's a wash-- except that I no longer have to put up with a POS General Motors product that starts losing parts in a strong wind. :D
greenline 03-24-2004, 09:58 PM Look on edmunds.com for invoice prices of all cars. What you are talking about is "holdback money" every brand of cars has a different % of the invoice as hold back money. Say its 3% , then take 3% of invoice and subtract that from invoice and that is the true invoice price that price the dealers pay for the car. The hold back money is given back to dealers to pay for intrest payments as car sits on lot. Dealers will not deal away that holdback money I am told. The longer a car sits on lot the less a dealer makes. Depends what company you buy from the last 3 new fords I bought I bought at invoice less my full trade price. I just bought a new RX8 but could not buy it at invoice but did get a good deal. I got 14,400 dollars as trade in for a 2001 mustang contv. Payed 32,900 less that amount. You have to shop around and be willing to walk out the door. Just got car tonight, really neat machine, hope wife lets me drive it :)).

Correct. Anyone posting the price paid must mention if that figure is before or after Tax, Tags & Title.
bowman 03-26-2004, 08:29 AM Why would you include taxes and tags in the price? Those are paid separately when you license the vehicle.
Maximus 03-26-2004, 10:08 AM correct. Thats why when someone posts a price they need to mention if the it is before or after tax/title etc so that readers can get the actual price paid for the car.
Moloko9 03-28-2004, 08:11 AM Before Taxes? $0.00 :D
MaCh-8 04-04-2004, 08:40 PM i would like to know if im getting a good deal.. its a winning blue rx8 with a sports package, appearance package, 6cd changer, spoiler, car tray and net.. for $28,063+500 D&H. with taxes it comes out to $29800 near that.. and im planning on putting down 11k on the car. and paying monthly payment. i think i can get about 4% on interest for 60 months.. is this a good deal?
porschegeorg 04-07-2004, 11:50 AM $26,211 for a velocity red 6-speed with the sport package.
I then paid $120 in title fees and 6.75% sales tax.
Paid 32,000$ out of the door (including 9% sales tax) for 6MT, GT, MP3, appearance, spoiler, rotary accents.
IndyJayhawk 04-07-2004, 12:08 PM I am paying a little over $33,000 for the RX-8 I pickup Saturday. I'm driving down to Indy to get it. The local dealer here has $40,000 on his car. The car will have everything but the navigation computer.
blue flash 04-07-2004, 01:08 PM $32,000 CASH out the door

First question - Is it a manual or automatic? If it is a manual I would say it's a decent deal, if it's an automatic I would keep looking for a better deal
samatnyc 04-07-2004, 04:38 PM I gave the dealer a choice of selling me one of a couple RX-8's , but the most I would pay was $250 over invoice. That worked.

I wouldn't consider those fees part of the vehicle cost either, however those fees were part of my loan, so I see why some consider it

Add spare tire
30,400 not including state fees/taxes
mysql101 04-30-2004, 12:45 AM $30,573 total price for 6 speed with GT and Navi.
Add on $1040 for the MS Spoiler (yeah, I could have gotten it cheaper online)
I think it was $33,000 even once tax, title, etc were tacked on.
I didn't put any money down either.
TODreamer 05-01-2004, 07:53 PM Wow...those American prices look so good! and that Low Sales Tax....mmmm yummmy.
Up here in Canada where there is 15% sales tax....A GT 8, done up nicely with the appearance package and about 1500.00 worth of extra toys with the 15% sales tax is gonna run me $51,000.00 :-o

williamngRX8 03-31-2005, 05:58 PM my TI 8 GT (blk/chapparal interior) has abt 9500 miles on it when i bought it last month.
bought extended warranty from dealer and realized online offer much more cheaper. cancelled it last week. save me 2200. out the door USD 23800 :p
HaloX 03-31-2005, 06:12 PM I got a new 2004 Lightning Yellow w/ Sports package, appearance package for $24,988 + ttl. The place I got it from also had a black touring for $24,477 w/ clear bra. Didnt get that because black gets hot too easily, exterior maintenance requirements and gets dirty too easily.
