View Full Version : Motor Mounts!

Tired of having to replace the OEM motor mounts with expensive bushing replacements for $130+ per bushing?

We are now providing solid motor mounts and replacement bushings for a total package replacement. These motor mounts will create tons of extra space, not to mention planting the drive train to reduce power train loss. Vibrations will not be increased at idle but at higher RPM's increased vibrations are to be expected.

Installation can be completed in 2 hours time with basic hand tools and moderate mechanical skills.

Orders can be placed on our site and include new bushings and bolts.

Race roots motor mount review and installation pictures.

Install process wasn't to bad at all, it was a pretty easy swap and had it done in a 2 hour range, with some rain breaks in between.

I was very surprised on how little vibration there is, at idle its still very smooth. When you accelerate is when you feel the motor is planted around 3 to 4k, its more of a rumble then a vibration. It clears back up to being smooth again and is still a comfortable ride. Again my car is daily driven on highway.
Shifting feels great! there is no more jerky motion anymore in between shifts.

Have you done any testing with these mounts, they don't look too sturdy to me, just my opinion and thoughts.

Yes they have been on my car for 2 years with numerous autox and track sessions on them without issue.

In addition we are using a softer larger bushing so it is not a steel to steel connection.

Does the engine sit exactly in the same spot/height? Do you make these yourself? I'd be interested if you could move the forward hole(screw) on the passenger side which bolts onto the engine, and move it a little back more.

out of curiosity, why do you need this done? The motor does move a little bit, i think or wanna say maybe 1/2'' higher and maybe moved back slightly.

Yeah, I do swaps so that won't do for me then, I don't have space for that much movement. If it's the exact stock location, it'll work... Oh well...

Pretty good but i like to know how much room opens up for running a downpipe in that area over the stock location..

Is the vibration a good or bad feeling when felt?

Just installed these motor mounts. The rough idle is gone, but it is LOUD in the cabin when I get on it. Shifting is so much better, I can easily shift while red-lining. I used to have to back off the throttle to get it into 2nd. Overall, I prefer these to the stock mounts. The car just feels better, a bit loud but that is what stereos are for ; )

why not fabricate a motor mount using both location?? (red circles) using one nut on the frame doesn't look safe to me.

A cherry picker is a bit excessive. Wrench and Ratchet set are all that is really needed along with jack stands and a jack.

Z0oMzo0m
02-28-2012, 01:11 AM
no need to really even go under car, just remove both front tires, place the jack and piece of wood under the oil pan and put just enough pressure to hold motor, remove both motor mounts and i think it was easier to install the drivers side first. (get it started at least) then move to the passenger side and get it started. tighten them both down little at a time. the jack under the motor will need to be moved up/down to get both mounts into place, and same for when you tighten the new mounts down.

easy :)

just installed these mounts, looks like engine is sitting abit higher than before, about an 1-2 inch higher, and my stock mount looks fine. The intake plenum (accordion looking thing) is almost hitting the stock strut bar. Maybe I just need to drive around more with these guys see if they settle. Also as far as screwing the nut that goes over the bushing, how do you know when and where to stop? one side got progressively got harder to screw down while the other side seems like it can go further, I just stopped the nut 1 thread before the bolt became flush with the nut. As long as my engine stays in place i'm happy. I can't wait to track them, still got 300 miles of driving to do to break in my new ACT clutch -.-

You either need a bushing underneath to allow the nut to tighten against something...or you need a nylock or another locking nut to make sure they just don't rattle off

I just got these mounts installed today at my garage.

I'm 50/50 on them...

-Driveability:
They make the car violent as fuck. Whenever you put load on the engine, everything shakes. My dad said the sound suits the car though, more like a race car lol
Also, my steering wheel is shaking on the highway, I'm not sure if that's wheel related (installed new wheels today too) or engine mount related.
-Shifting:
Bar none, the shifting is MUCH better. You can shift any gear at high RPM and it'll slide right in no problem. Great with my AFE short shifter.
-Problems:
I had the same problem as Junirol; the engine is sitting a bit higher and my K&N intake piping was not aligning with the coupler. We detached the intake and put it back on and it sits better but there's still a gap and an air leak somewhere cause I keep throwing an intake related check engine light.

So I dunno where I sit now, I'm hoping the mounts settle a bit so my intake problem will be fixed. But the whole daily driving aspect is kinda sketchy with the really hardcore vibrations on acceleration.

I got used to the loud cabin under acceleration pretty quickly. I love the mounts, the shifting is so much better.
I did NOT notice the steering wheel vibrating any more or less, so you should check your tire balance/alignment.

Munchy

the shifting is definetly more grounded.

is there any way to "soften" the vibrations? Maybe by more bushings in other places?

The vibrations should not be as violent as you describe them, I have driven in other customers cars with no where near what you are describing. Please reinspect installation.

I'll try to take an iPhone video next time I'm out with the car.

I did a drive by with my friend and he said that you don't hear any vibrations (other than my intake) from outside of the car, so I guess that's one good thing lol

Getting the car aligned this week as well.

during the drive the steering wheel shouldn't shake/vibrate, only at idle it will a little bit.
don't really have much room for softer bushings that could hold up to the heat or the weight i would think.

The only vibration i get from these mounts is my left mirror rattling when i release the clutch, other than that I'm very satisfied with these mounts. Even the tech replacing my engine was surprised how the mounts felt when he test drove. he thought it would "be violent." Great product IMO thanks RR!

i attached a picture in my last post. the mounts i'm talking about are under the car near the front and are rounded. Like, to me it doesn't look these would fit there, so i'm just clarifying in general that there are multiple engine mounts. i'll attach the pictures of the Race Roots mounts and the other style.

unless i'm wrong, just trying to sort out the difference between the attached two pictures. either way, i'm interested in these too. might shake my brains out if i beef up my engine mounts too much though, lol!
