I've only had my RX-8 for a week and I have already noticed poor fuel economy. Not sure if this has already been discussed, I am sure it has, but did any of you do anything in the aftermarket to improve this? If so, i would love to hear the suggestions. Thanks.

Great idea! The search field should have "mileage, flooding" in it as a default.

 

This is why this site is going downhill - constant clutter of the SAME FRIGGIN THREADS.

I think it is absolutely imperative that new members have a 30 day trial or 100 posts in existing threads or something before they can post new threads. This would allow them to get familiar with the ongoing fiasco of repeated threads.

Besides, it seems that new members don't know how to use the search button.

I have been to other forums where this is mandatory, and you know what, it works.

 

Relax, I am learning the ropes here. I doubt that the gas mileage problem will go away anytime soon, so it's likely there will be more posts in that reagrd. Why not just bypass the post?

 

I think the main reason is that new owners/members aren't aware that the RX-8 they have is going to turn/turning into a big lemon for them.

A little late, but welcome the RX-8 CLUB.

Don't take the drift in this thread personally. Information related to your question is already in the forum, and by using the search engine, spending some time, and casual browsing you will learn how to mine data from the amazing breadth and depth of the RX-8 CLUB.

Further, by reading multiple existing threads on related topics you will find much broader information about your question. I think that is more effective than posting a question and getting answers from the smaller number of members that happen to respond.

To be fair, Painless's question was really about aftermarket solutions, so it wasn't yet another "what's up with mileage", but the lead-in sentence looked like it was going that way.

I have pondered the no-new-threed sorts of rules, but we do see some people post pretty good questions with low Post counts. Maybe they are seasoned members from another forum. Possibly users with low post counts would be taken to an updated FAQ page, and then some minor hoop jumping would be required to start a new thread.

For sure, I am not an RX-8 expert, but I would be willing to help work on new FAQ's. I think some FAQ's could just distill, summarize, or link to information that is already in the forum.

 

I don't know what is worse: The newbies NOT using the search feature or some *** who doesn't own an RX-8 who posts **** like this. Seriously, try picking up a hobby instead of trolling message boards...

 

I've seen other forums where the "Search" button is emphasized with a red highlight or a bigger/bolded font. Anything to let it stand out from the menu buttons above.

I think this site ought to do that to avoid questions like these.

 

Seks, go troll somewhere else. You haven't posted anything but how horrible the RX-8 is, and how everyone should get rid of it. If you have nothing useful to add and are just here to "stir up the pot" as you have previously stated, you can leave now. Back up your statements with something tangible or go away.

 

This is exactly what we need, and reconsideration of the time limit between searches by guests might be a good idea also (but I am well aware of the need to balance search against server resource utilization).

The FAQ was the first page I hit when I found this forum, and I was very disappointed to find that it apparently dated from the pre-launch days without significant updates since. I tried to search, but kept getting rejected by the 20-second rule, so I ended up spending days wading through threads in order to avoid asking a bunch of redundant questions. Most people won't bother spending the time; they'll start posting questions as soon as they fail to find their answer in the FAQ and/or get rejected by the Search limit.

Just updating the FAQ, even if it's largely a bunch of headers/questions followed by links to existing threads, should help a lot. Even if it only covers mileage, flooding/warmup, snow/ice driveability, service intervals and oil questions (foaming/consumption/20 vs. 30 weight/synth vs. dino) would get the majority of redundantly posted questions, and these could then be answered simply with RTFFAQ and closed by the mods.

Allowing more frequent guest searches would help too, but I don't know what kind of load the server is under, so this may not be an option.

So, off the trolling and back to the original topic. Do any of you use aftermarket parts that improve gas mileage? I do mean use, not just ones that you've heard of, because anectdotal evidence is best in this regard. Thanks.

I have found that towing a 2500-gallon gasoline trailer behind my car has helped to reduce the number of times I have to stop to fill up.

Of course each fill-up now costs me $4375.28...but who is keeping track?

Wow! You must have some EXPENSIVE gas out there.

We are hitting about $1.70 - $1.85 for premium here.

 

I rather get the 17.5 miles per gallon I average with this car than 25 miles per gallon with anthing else. I didn't buy it for economy. I also didn't buy it to carry sheets of plywood. There are other choices for folks who want or need those things.
