View Full Version : 2005 BMW M5 v-10, 550 hp!!!
JeupRX-8 03-02-2004, 09:39 PM Well, the BMW M5 Concept has finally came to Geneva Auto Show! I am very psyched, my dad has the 1st allocation spot in the midwest to get this V-10 beast. He is going to trade in his 745i when the M comes in next spring. I thought I would share this article with everyone, this is going to be the baddest ass sedan on the planet. The only thing that is not production is that there is going to be a lip spoiler on the trunk of the car, and it will have atleast 10.5" rear wheels, instead of the smallish 9.5" rears on the concept. 7-speed gearbox, and 1/4-mile in 13.0 seconds!
Here is the article, also with 6-picutures (http://www.germancarfans.com/News.cfm/NewsID/2040302.001/bmw/1.html)

RXE16T 03-02-2004, 10:35 PM Bling bling!
scorp76 03-03-2004, 12:07 AM 13.0 seconds in the quarter mile? With 500 HP and a V10 surely it will beat that.
RXE16T 03-03-2004, 12:08 AM Power to weight my friend.
AltecLansing 03-03-2004, 01:16 AM it looks heavy to me... i prefer the previous one
RobDickinson 03-03-2004, 03:43 AM Looks like a Chris bangle fcuk up again.
And it'll be very heavy for its BHP as a performance car (rari's have les BHP lol), but that V10 should sound sweet.
Hanzo 03-03-2004, 05:52 AM F1 P83 haha.

WHealy 03-03-2004, 07:39 AM I test drove the previous version with a saleman that was very open to letting me see what the car could do. One sweet ride. Almost got one, but ultimatly decided against it. But this looks awsome!
Thanks for sharing the article.

Doable. Is that SMG a double clutch transmission?
edit:
If not, Why not make it an 8 speed forward, 2 speed reverse.

No, only VW/Audi is using the DSG double-clutch trans so far.
Speaking of which - BOO to the new M5! The 200-2003 M5 was the last of the super sedans to offer a manual trans, the Audi RS6 and Mercedes E55 had gone auto. Now BMW joins them with this SMG. Yeah, the SMG is far better than an auto from a mechanical efficiency standpoint, but it's still no clutch-pedal-and-row-your-own-gear-lever. :(

Gordon

lilbigman 03-03-2004, 12:29 PM All I got to say is I pray that Chris bangle stays away from the M3 he is a disgrace to designer's.
megauo 03-03-2004, 01:21 PM As I heard he already left BMW...

Good may he hold his head down in shame:D
Gord96BRG 03-03-2004, 02:45 PM No, he hasn't left BMW - they promoted him! He's not quite so directly involved in Design, but I don't recall his new title.
It's too late, though - the next generation 3 series design was finished a while ago. :(

Gordon
cueball 03-03-2004, 03:45 PM I thought the M5 was going to be available with either a SMG gearbox or a standard 6 speeed.
scorp76 03-03-2004, 05:12 PM I don't get why everyone hates Bangle. His designs are no worse than the retarded, alien-looking stuff coming from Nissan.

He made some of the most beautiful looking cars around into, as some would say, monstrosities of twisted and "flame surfaced" automobiles.
I do like most of the new M5, but the rear end is pretty fugly.
scorp76 03-03-2004, 07:53 PM His only fault is turning decent looking but plain and conservative cars into something distinctive and evolutionary.
I guess it's natural for humans to embrace the familiar and close their minds to anything new though.
JeupRX-8 03-03-2004, 09:53 PM As a BMW fanatic, I really think the BMW designs have gotten more bold and agressive for the better. BMW sales are up in every category, and they are performing better than any car in their respective classes. My dad's 7 is by far the best Luxo sedan on the market, and my mom's X5 is the best SUV. When we get the new M5, it will blow its competition away, and it is also a great looking car. Chris Bangle has gotten crap for this "flame-surfacing", but not many have known that he was responsible for the previous models designs from 1989 to present. He was promoted to oversee the BMW brand (Rolls, BMW, and mini). BMW is headed in the right direction, and the competition is getting further and further behind.
Also, they only offer Sequential Manual Gearbox, becuase it shifts faster than manuals, and it is the next big thing in transmissions. Lambo, BMW, Ferrari, and now porsche is getting into the mix of SMG. Lets face it, not that many people buy manuals anymore.

Most beautiful looking cars??? I don't know about that one. If you ask me he made vanilla cars less vanilla which is why so many people are up in arms about Bangle. I like BMWs and all, but they've never been the best looking cars out there if you ask me, save for maybe the 850 <drools>.
The new 5 series is one hell of a car and better than the previous 5 series even if I can't decide if I like the looks or not.

That's because people are lazy and they don't realize how much freaking fun having to work for your driving experience can be!

New 7 series in the UK is a complete flop.
Worth well under 50% of its sales price 2nd hand after only 18 months, worlds fastest 'refresh' of a cars styling know.
The 5 series will sell well, only because , in the UK, there isnt much competition.
The X5 is only a decent car because they stole all the off road tech from (Range)Rover. The platform though is BMW's and a great one at that, which means the next range rover will use a ford platform , oops.
BMW's are superbly engineered machines mostly, but their styling doesnt do it for me, and least here their stereotyped driver attitude isnt somehting I'd like to be associated with.

The article said 0-200 km/hr in 13 seconds. The 1/4 mile should come before that (120 MPH).
The hood looks boring, maybe needs a rotary accent. :)
JACKGRAY 03-04-2004, 11:04 AM The new beammer is increadible with great styling! check this out though. it the chrysler ME 4/12, 0-60 in 2.9 with the best power to weight ratio on the market!
heres the link:

While not as atainable as the new m5 its a great read.

The X is a "decent car" not because of off road tech (which was lowsy until they introduced xDrive) but because even @ 5000 lbs, it drives like a true BMW.
their stereotyped driver attitude isnt somehting I'd like to be associated with. You're going to miss out on a lot if you're that concerned with other people's opinions.

I know. I was pointing that out to him.
JeupRX-8 03-04-2004, 05:25 PM The X5 is not a "decent" suv. It re-definied the SUV market to produced "sport" utility's. If you have ever driven one, you would know the differance. We have owned 3, and also a new Range Rover. The Range IS a BMW X5 with Range rover styling, and hard seats. Every interior component is identical to the X5. Also, the E65 7-series has had record sales since it came into production comapired to the last generation.

mikeb 03-04-2004, 07:34 PM so nice
I like the front and back
the side profile doesn't sit with me right
can't wait to see this one in person
JeupRX-8 03-09-2004, 08:57 PM I can't wait till my dad owns it, so I can drive it. That is gonna be a pain though, shifting 7 freaken gears is like a dang 18-wheeler. (this is exaggerattion, I know they are like 13-speeds)
Troy J.
MikeW 03-10-2004, 06:12 PM SMG, no rowing. Left hand on the wheel and down shift paddle, right hand on center console for upshift (pull pack)
Xyntax 03-10-2004, 06:28 PM Sad thing about this is that most people who could afford it and buy it are old people who care less about a car's performance.
JeupRX-8 03-10-2004, 09:52 PM That's not always true... my dad is 36, and he enjoys fast cars... 2004 BMW 745i, and 2003 575 Maranello. But, he doesn't drive the cars fast (I am the only one who does); so I do see your point. ;)

Cadillac CTS-V Series and Maserati Quattroporte. Yipee!
JeupRX-8 03-11-2004, 05:47 PM That Cadillac is very nice... reminds me soft BMW-ish, besides the ugly interior and the ugly trunk. The brakes are enormous! I dispise of the Masserati though.

How is the Caddy "soft" versus the M5? Because reportedly it handles as well or better than an M5, has equal power, weighs 200 lb less, is more fuel efficient, is from a 20% more reliable make (check JD Power 2003 three year Vehicle Dependability Study) or because you can buy one for $30k less? I'll agree on the interior styling.
JeupRX-8 03-11-2004, 08:31 PM I meant to type "sort of", instead I type soft on accident... LoL
