does the mazda rx-8 make a warning sound that you are approaching 9000 rpm in america? ive seen it in a bunch of videos but when i went to the mazda dealer, they told me that it doesnt make the sound, and that it mihgt be only in japan. and also, does it include HID's (the grand touring package)? in the brochure, it says that it does, but then when i looked at the paper on the car, it only says 'xenon' lights.

That's a good thing if the dealer legitimately knows nothing about a beep on their cars. Ignorant yes.. but at least they aren't thrashing the inventory.

Also keep in mind it's not a very loud beep- kind of hard to hear with the engine screaming at 9000rpm in front of the dash. I just barely heard it the first time, and it was probably only because I was waiting for it with the radio turned down.
And the HID's are great... very crisp cutoff and great roadside lighting (scares the deer before they have a chance to run out).

The 8 looks really intimidating with all those lights if you saw it come screaming down the road. If only they were all the same color... but can't win em all.

the lights are awesome. they have nearly 180 degree beam pattern with a perfect cutoff all around.

Same here, s2k HIDs have a sharper cutoff line than the RX8s and it does not have self leveling and a very stiff suspension so that equates to a very bouncy cutoff line causing a very good flickering effect.

But nast to be in fromt of or oncoming.
I hate poorly levele HIDs and in the UK/Euro its now law that any car with HIDs have self leveling AND washers.

bouncy HID are obnoxious as hell. i already have enough people slam on the breaks in front of me and flash their brights coming at me.

I'd kinda hope the dealer might read through the owner's manual to get some idea of the features and general use of a car so they could more effectively sell it to a potential customer....
