So I just bought a used 2004 RX-8 just two weeks ago (awesome car!!!) but the driver seat squeaks!

Car Info
2004 RX-8 (this may affect all year models
Non-GT package (cloth seats, not power seats)

Problem
When putting pressure on the back of the seat (like when you push the clutch in, and your body puts pressure on the seat), a squeak is heard from the right side of the back of the seat. A squeak is also heard from the bottom left side of the seat, when you put weight on that. The squeak isn't very high pitched; it is more of a rubbing sound.

Solution
Video of how to fix the squeaky seats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZmWJJFR544)

First, you have to take off your seat cover. Just slide your seat all the way forward, open the back door, and look for two zippers at the bottom of the back of your driver seat. Unzip those. Now you'll have to pull down on the back seat cover, and unhook it from a little piece that keeps it attached to the bottom of the seat. Once you do that, you can see the inside of the seat's back.

My car already had the first two TSB's done on it previously. The first TSB (spring and frame contact) has you wrap vinyl tape around the area where the back supporting seat springs attach to the seat frame. The second TSB (frame and seat foam contact) is where they put a silencer material over the seat's frame. This material prevents the seat's foam from rubbing up against the metal frame. When it rubs against the metal, it makes that squeaky rubbing sound.

However, the dealer that did this TSB didn't cover the seat entirely with that silencer material, and there were some exposed metal parts that were still squeaking. So I just took a strip of cloth and placed it over these areas. My squeak was coming from the right side of the seat, so I just placed some cloth around as much of the frame as possible.

I also had another squeak coming from the bottom left of the seat. To fix this one, you don't even have to unzip anything. Just take some more cloth, pull the edge of the seat in, and slide the cloth down between the seat and the plastic side frame. Make sure the cloth covers the metal parts beneath there. You can stick the cloth down so that it isn't visible, and now you're done!

Lol. Yeah I don't know how to take the entire seat off. Either take your car to another mechanic or to Mazda. Or attempt to figure it out yourself haha.
