My car now... (well almost, excepting my Borla exhaust, tinting, and the color here's a bit off ;))

Omicron

And my car, in about a month... :D

Omicron

Already have the rear spoiler. I've obtained the Appearance package front spoiler and rear flares, and ordered my Mazdaspeed side skirts from Ronsenthal Mazda. Should have them in less than a month. These pics are from the Virtual Garage (http://www.mazda.co.jp/accessory/garage/rx-8/index.html), but I'll throw pics up of the real thing once I get these parts on.

Whatchu all think? :D

Omicron,

Awesome! That's the combo I want to do minus the rear wing and mine is black. I love all your mods....I'm never ever going to catch up....

Omicron
02-21-2004, 02:27 AM
Heeheehee. :D Sure you are. Thanks. :)

Funny thing is, I might just make it down to Chandler sometime next year in my '8... I have family all over Arizona, and lived there myself for 20 years in Tucson.

Sanguine_Dark
02-21-2004, 02:36 AM
Ahhhh....tucson. I lived there for about 11 years. East side out toward Reddington Pass. If you ever make it down here we will definately have to hook up and go for a drive with Huff from Vivid. That would be a great time.

Did you see the photochop I did of my rx with those mods...mostly the same but added gunmetal powdercoat to the wheels and lowered.

Omicron
02-21-2004, 02:42 AM
Yup, ahhh Tucson. Still kinda miss it. In my years there I lived on West, North West, North, and East sides. West by Prince and Oracle, NW by Orange Grove and LaCanada, North by Skyline and Ina, then Sunrise and Pontatoc, then East side near 22nd and Harrison. All over the place.

Those are some nice photochops. But I don't think I'll lower mine just yet, as I want to see what the ground clearance is like with the MS Side skirts. Supposed to be only 1/2 in lower than stock. If so, then coilovers are in my future too, or maybe just springs. Then comes forced induction... :D

Definately post pics when you get it done, I am curious to see whether the MS skirts are the same height as the rear flares and front lip.

- It's expensive for what it is (but then, all the MS stuff is!)
- I don't like the way the space under the exhaust pipes is open
- I've decided instead to get the existing factory underspoiler painted to match the car. Think that'll look just about as good, if not better.

yea i remember talking about this waaaay waaay back. Didn't somebody actually do this to a red car back then? I can't remember...

Yesterday I was one click away from being the Guinea pig, but I came to my senses that I wasn't going to install all these parts when its 20 degrees outside :o .

Except you're going to have that annoying grey line running along the side sill skirts... it matches up on the other MS parts, but not the appearance package. The was the flaw with that plan...

DemonRX-8
02-22-2004, 11:33 PM
Yes, I noticed the lower gray lip also. But even still, you can see in the pic that it doesn't look that bad. I think it will work out just fine.

Japan8
02-22-2004, 11:54 PM
It'd be NG for me. Just because I know it's there... just because it isn't 100% perfect or at least 99%... there is no way I would do it. But that is me and I tend to be rather picky...

Omicron
02-23-2004, 12:54 AM
BUt when I get the rear underspoiler painted, if it bugs me, then I'll have them paint that too. And keep in mind that my car is Titanium grey, which is close to the grey of the lip. But if I do "have" to get it painted, I may just debadge the car too. :)

That is exactly what i want to put on my 8 where did you get the front spoiler and rear flares and can they be ordered painted.

Omicron
02-27-2004, 10:54 PM
You can get the front spoiler and rear flares from Trussville or Rosenthal Mazda (see our vendors forum) although I bought mine privately from someone else on the board here. I bought my Mazdaspeed side sills from Rosenthal Mazda.

The other thought I had was going with the Autoexe rear. I liked the all painted look but I'm debating how this would look with the MS skirts.

Omicron -- I also got my MazdaSpeed sideskirts yesterday -- the bottom and bottom lip on mine are a darker grey -- looks great! -- wonder why yours isn't 2 toned like all the other MazdaSpeed body parts

does the darker grey match the plastic in the stock rear bumper at all??

It would be really cool if the bottom lip was carbon fiber... rotary extreme has a set like that but the rest is fiberglass which I don't want and they cost more then the MS ones... bah

I looked again today, and the lip *may* be darker after all. Maybe the garage light threw me. However, it is SO close to the Titanium so as not to be a problem... I think... ;) We'll see TUESDAY 3/9, when I get this all installed. :D

haha im honored to be the first to say WOWWW! looks GREAT Omicron! i remember thinking bout this when i first saw the mazdaspeed body kit, n realizing i dont like the side aero flares. it looks good! hows the leve diff between the front air dam n the sides? looks small, but still there. oh and btw dont worry bout getting the bottom of the sides painted, matches almost perfect. cant tell, even when looking for it!

Thanks guys! And yes, I'm really pleased. :D

Yes, there is a slight difference between the front lip and side sills, but it's so slight that you only see it from square on side view. As you can tell, it's not noticible from any other angle.

Also, regarding the different color "lip" on the bottom of the side sills, it's SO close to the Titanium color that it's all but identical. In fact, I'm still not sure if it really is a different color.

Nice.

Now, will you buy the MS front bumper and rear diffuser, put it on your car, and take some pictures :) I've always wanted to see the MSkit (minus the MSwing) but with the stock spoiler/wing.

But, your car looks good. I think your setup is "smoother" looking, while the appearance package is more "aggressive" looking. Can't lose with either one.

Congrats on your new kit. We think alike! Here's what I had suggested to Success07 back in January for his yellow 8 with appearance package to just replace the side moldings with Mazdaspeed ones. The pictures are PHOTOSHOP'ED:

Omicron

Yup, it does. :D Thanks again for the nice words, everyone.

Some of you have asked how well the side sills and front/rear pieces line up. Well, the MS side sills have that lip along the bottom edge, which is actually about a half an inch lower than the front lip or rear sills. Wish there was some easy way to remove it, then everything would line up perfectly. But it's no big deal - because of the "lines" of the car, you can't really see it. It's only when you really study it (like in pic 13) that you notice the difference... and even then, you've really gotta look for it.

While they're at it, they should adopt the MS side mirrors as standard equipment. I can't imagine it would cost any more to mass produce.

Also a track package maybe--lower/stiffer springs, stiffer swaybars, louder exhaust, and better tires. It should be available independently of the GT/sunroof/bose stuff also.

I would say they are not for the faint of heart, but if you follow the directions that come with the Mazdaspeed ones they are pretty straight forward. Just make sure you double/triple check everything. My buddy and I put mine on and I have no regrets about doing it myself.

Why is it that you can't put a front air dam on 8's with AT? If I were a guy I'm sure I would know this. I want to put some sort of lip spoiler on...not sure what look I'm going for - something awesome like the pics I see on here of ya'lls cars (sorry about the southern drawl). Just wanna make her look a whole lot sweeter than she does now. Any suggestions as to what kind of appearance package/body kit would look good? Seems people think I am a guy driving until they pull up next to me and see that I am 100% female (that is if they can catch up with me). Maybe it's that heavy foot of mine that throws them off? Anyway, thanks for any suggestions......these prices are outrageous....but it pays to look good, right? L8R

I just scored an awesome deal on the front and rear bumper with appearance package add ons . My first thought was to be original and fit full side skirt to go with that . Seems it's been done a lot . Looks great .
Can get ings side skirts here locally for $500 - MS will most likely be double that . But they look pretty similar - any reason why the I shouldn't go with INGs ?
