I did not see anything mentioned about a factory Alarm system for the RX-8. Is it standard / optional or not offered at all?

View Full Version : Does RX-8 have a Factory Alarm? ACRX8 01-21-2003, 10:28 AM I did not see anything mentioned about a factory Alarm system for the RX-8. There may or may not be an alarm system. Our 2003 Protege 5 also has a panic button on the key fob, but no alarm system. Pressing the button sounds the horn and flashes the lights. This feature is quite helpful when the car is lost in a sea of SUV's in a parking lot. morganrogers 01-21-2003, 11:46 AM Not sure where you are... UK model has alarm and immobilizer as standard fit on all models. Morgan. No evidence of a factory alarm, the panic button just activates the horn. It does have the anti-theft immobilizer system. I'm sure that there will be a dealer-installed alarm option though. TreknMazda 02-06-2003, 10:14 AM I printed out the RX8 Window Sticker for my future car and it lists under Standard Features/Safety & Security: * Antitheft Engine Immobilizer * Alarm System So there is an alarm system of some sort at least planned. I don't know how 'final' this list of standard features may be. Other posts in the forum have indicated the final list of "options" will not be complete till March. jtdwab 02-24-2003, 01:05 PM Originally posted by TreknMazda I printed out the RX8 Window Sticker for my future car and it lists When you say you printed out the Window Sticker what do you mean?? TreknMazda 02-24-2003, 01:32 PM On the "Build Your Own" (http://www2.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=buildModel&flash=1) RX8 there used to be an option on the final summary page to print out a window sticker. I just checked and that option is gone. It was at the bottom of the summary above the "retrieve saved configuration" where it now says "start order process". Perhaps it is temporarily removed while they refine the list since that same option is avaiable on the right side of the page. When I printed it out it did the standard items but not the items included in the selected option package. And we have reports that a final dealer add-on options/accessories list is coming in March. So I'll check back March 1st and see if I can get an even BETTER window sticker.:D ffjaydee 03-04-2003, 12:40 PM According to the spec sheet from the Canadian GT model, an anti-theft alarm system is standard equipment. This is on the GT model only!! Hope this helps! JayDee z00m-z00m 09-22-2003, 12:50 PM My car goes off when UPS trucks go by, this is without any additional alarm stuff install. I tap my tires with my foot and I hear a vibration sound, when I do it two times in a row the car goes off. Ill look at my sticker to see what it says it comes with. mikeb 09-22-2003, 08:27 PM your alarm sounds faulty graphicguy 09-23-2003, 04:47 PM MSRP sticker in the U.S. says "Alarm & Engine Immobilizer System" under the "Safety and Security" features heading. I'll have to go out and dig through the owners manual to find out what that means. I would imagine that anyone trying to steal your car will get the "lights flashing, horn blowing" thing going on in addition to the engine not firing up. Elara 09-23-2003, 08:24 PM I accidently set my alarm off the other day- it's the standard lights flashing/horn blowing thing. mikeb 09-23-2003, 09:03 PM How did you set it off by accident jd62 09-23-2003, 09:06 PM Originally posted by mikeb How did you set it off by accident You can set it off by leaving a window open and locking the car, and then reaching in and opening the door. newport8 09-25-2003, 05:12 PM Try tapping your window glass with your key. Sometimes that's enough to set it off.
