Guess it's been about a month since this came up. at 10,600 and no issues yet.

10700 and only a few minor problems - mostly rattles.

I don't think my 110 miles is going to win this competition...

heavy use, every 5000, light use every 7500 according to Mazda. Several here go for the every 3000 mile

At 8300 you definitely need a change.

Wow...I have barely broken 1500..I picked mine up Nov. 20th.

From Jan 1 to Jan 31 I put just over 4,000 miles on my rx8. I dont drive much anymore now. It pretty much sits and looks pretty in my driveway.

1,900 since dec 18. plan on 1st oil change saturday, wish me luck getting the correct oil!

They dont "have" to be driven. They are no different than any other engine. If they sit for an extended period of time (months or a year or so) then change the oil.

I do hear a rapid ticking when i first start the car, it lasts for about 2-3 minutes then disappears......gonna have the dealer look at it for me.....if there is a problem, then ill refer to my WARRANTY

DO NOT worry about the TICKING NOISE.. its the ABS doing a diagnostic test...

One month, 1,400 miles and going. I drive her 50 miles a day, six days a week just to work. Its the best time I have ever had commuting! No problems, except now that its 86 deg, I notice the AC thing. No worries. Go fast and open the sunroof!!

Looks like some of you bought it as a fun sunday car, to put no more then 4-5k a year on. Heck, that's no fun. For me it's my daily driver, so let the mile loading begin. I've had mine 10 days now and I am at 600 miles already :)

Smoknjimm, you may want to try the new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. Many have given it excellent reviews. It supposed to be better than the SO3 which is tire to beat. It is not offered in 225/45/18 size, but 235/40/18 is available and should fit the RX-8.

I'm probably going to get a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE750's. I had the 730 Gen 2's on the Grand prix GTP i traded in on this car and the worked very well in both wet and dry. The 750's are supposed to be better from the reviews i've read on Tire Rack's site.they have a wear rating of 300 compared to the 140 of the RE070's. I'm not looking to pay $200 for 15000 mile tires! I'll be moving up to 245X40's. I've read here on the forum that they are the same diameter and won't affect the speedo(which as near as iI can tell is 2-4 MPH high in it's reading).

Check engine light will come on when I switch grade of gas? like from 93 to 91(91 is the highest here in ND), it will turn off after a hours. Few rattles on driver side door, gas mileage improved to around 22 mpg on highway, around 18 city. Getting ready for the 20k mark so I can start doing some shit.

1700 miles and 17 days an owner. Having fun with every moment.

No problems except two check engine lights which were false alarms. Also, no flooding until last week when my dad tried to start it after it sat for a month.

I'm not sure that bragging is the right word. It pains me to think about 18,500 miles in 6 months. However, advertising high mileage with no problems is good. It offsets the jackoffs who get on here and do nothing but complain about problems with the cars.

But I still maintain soon you will see folks talking about how low-milage thier 2004s are.

But there will always be that group that talks about 5 gazillion miles on thier car and have had no significant problems with thier rides. (and that is cool)

I picked mine up on 11/24/03. I drive only on weekends (Sat & Sun) and I have 5,125 miles. That's only 12 weekends since 11/24, which equals to 24 days, so that's probably equal to 5.5K per month. If I included work milage, I would exceed 30K in 6 month =)

Well, when it comes time to trade in your car on a new one (or sell it outright) you will want to say that my car has only 50,000 miles on it rather than 150,000 miles....trust me on that.

Fun to drive...yes. But low milage makes it MORE fun when trying to sell it and get the best price.

All I was saying is that the thread was rather interesting given that later on there will be one asking who has the lowest milage 2004 out there...you watch - it will happen.

It's been said before. Buying a car as an investment sucks. If your really trying to be smart with your money you buy a used accord. Buying a new car and making sure to keep low miles on it is like burning your money a *little* bit slower.

With this car I enjoy my most days of 4 hours in the car. I had a econo car before and it sucked. Thats why I bought a new sports car.

49,660 from 9/3/04 to 5/29/05. No major problems. :rolleyes: Just replaced the OEM RE40's with Yoko Neova's. The RE's proably could have lasted the summer (ain't ABS amazing for even treadwear?), even after this month's MazFest track day, at Buttonwillow. This car loves to be pushed! :D Minimally needs braided brake lines though, for track days.

Oh my god, someone that left the Re40's on longer than I did!! Whoohoo! I thought I was bad waiting till 32k miles :) ANd no, I'm not even close to you- bougfht the car a month earlier and I only have 34k on it.

i've got 42,000 KM on the car (picked it up on July 28 2003) , Changed tires. Everything else is fine .

June 24 04 bought the car. I have about 28 000km on it and i haven't done anything to it except change the oil (oh and major maintenance but 0 issues!).

22,000 since april 05..on a 9/03 build (that's 7 months or about 3100 miles a month ) Aside from oil changes, roasting off the stock POS potenzas, no problems. I'm wary of even taking it to the dealer for the recalls, cause I know they'll fsk it up if I let them touch it.

My first exitement (Go-Cart for 4, Porsche for 33,000.00) turned into disappointment:
Huge gaz guzzler ( we knew that), Mazda Service not comparable to Porsche or Mercedes, brakes first squeaky - now rotors are not running round anymore with 50% brakepads remaining!!!. Mazda refuses to put new rotors in on their expense, suggests to machine the old ones, which will make the problem just worse, because the thinner rotors will warp even easier.
Things take extrem long to get addressed, rearlights have water in it and become foggy, noise in sunroof...
Car is 80% driven by a gentle lady, so no explanation for the rotor problems.

Mazda refuses to put new rotors in on their expense, suggests to machine the old ones, which will make the problem just worse, because the thinner rotors will warp even easier.

Not true that thinner rotors will warp easier. Rotors rarely ever WARP. What happens is that you get "slick"/"rough" patches on the rotors. So as you apply the brakes, the pad makes less friction against the slicker surfaces and thus ends up wearing away at more of the rotor at the rougher parts. As time progresses, these differences get worse and that's where the warped feeling comes in: now the rotor surface is uneven. This gives you the pulsating brake pedal that people call "warped rotors." The rotor itself is still perfectly straight: it's just that its surface now has irregularities in it.

If you machine the rotors, you will probably have another 20-30K of wobble-free driving (given that you keep your wheels balanced and your car aligned).

i have had a white rx8 2005 gt withmanual transmition and i dont drive it in the winter cuz it sucks so i bougt a cadilac and i love it but the rx8 is great witha turbo charger i can get smoke out of third gear but mind u i use to drive funny cars and i have a bout 110,000km's on the car its almost all hig way drivinng AND i dont drive it in the winter lol

Sicne this thread is still kicking, I just hit 50K miles, have had the car since august 2003. Problems with the car since purchase:

Fan control and Temp control knobs replaced 3 times.
Door sill plates replaced once
Actuator arm for glovebox replaced once
Stereo main circuit board replaced.
Misc recalls performed.

Still having a blast with the car, even if I havent had time as much to go racing.

4 oil changed so far, gear and rear diff oil once @ 5K miles

rattles on driver side door I will fix it myself when I have the time. Rear left light has water in it, CEL came on for dead CAT. Will fix those as soon as possible (dealer time)

66,895 no major problems. getting ready to buy my 4th set of tires. i replaced the originals with bridgestone re750's and stepped up to 245x40. my next set were kumho extsa 712's. of the three types, the re750's were by far the best.

at 61,000 miles, i caught my first flood job. the real culprit was my oe battery, which was done. new battery with double the cca (650 if i remember correctly), $85 since not under warranty.

at 64,000 i started getting the airbag light. again not in warranty, $1795 for new passenger module. (i haven't eaten that bullet yet).

i have enjoyed every mile i have driven this car, and still feel it has brought me more pleasure than any major purchase i have made in the last 10 years.

I know I'm not anywhere near the highest. I just crossed 34,000 yesterday. So far, the only glitches have been a cracked parking brake handle (covered under warranty), a flooded left rear light cluster (repaired twice under warranty), and an odd undercarriage rattle on the right side that wouldn't show itself when it was up on a lift or being driven by the mechanic (the rattle only started within the last two months). She's never flooded and only once failed to start on the first try (that was my error, not the car's, as I let go of the key too soon).

^I had a rattle that sounded like it was from under the car towards the front, and it turned out to be the front dust guard hitting the caliper.

just broke 40000 miles. i have an 80mi roundtrip commmute and had the car since march last year.

experienced my first idle drop last week. kept the revs high all day after that, the dealer did the 30000 mile mark full service inspection (set me back about $400) and the problem went away.

I don't have to think about it. lol... I know the dealer doesn't install a new console when he rips out your compressionless carbon mass and replaces it.

tranny, diff, belts, etc aren't critical. The car can technically still "run" without them... you may not make it any where, but it'll still run. Yanking the motor is like getting a new lease on life... again imho.

If I were to get a new engine or a rebuilt, my personal mileage counter would be reset, regardless of what my odo says, perhaps that helps clarify my vague comment about the "reset".

I am at about 130,000 miles. I did have an elective rebuilt put in at 110,000 but that is explained in other threads. Other things to note is My trans has never been worked on. I still have the original CAT. So I think I have something to offer threads like this.

I wouldn't suggest otherwise expo. I've read your rebuild thread, as well as countless other informative posts you've made.

I wasn't saying you guys don't have a voice. I'm merely suggesting that your mileage numbers don't count when it comes to a n00b like me sitting with a mere 14k on an 04 trying to get a feel for when I'm going to go compressionless, although that does appears to be more and more like a big roulette wheel at this point.

my old car i put new gauge faces on and broke the needle for the gas gauge. Had them replace the cluster and mileage reset, though it hurt the value sorta, cause when i sold it it was an 02 with 20k miles showing but it actually had 120.

93K here it's an 04 model, don't remember the build date. I've changed the springs but that's it other then maintenance items. I'm planning on doing a clutch soon tho (mines fine but I want a better feel) and the RB intake and exhaust. The car is winter driven and she's stayed clean so far.

100,500 miles on my 04, purchased August 03. Original engine. Had some clutch work done a while back, an intake manifold 2 years ago, an ac condensor, a few water pumps, a couple of coil replacements and a myriad of other things done in and out of warranty. i've just rolled over 66000, only problem was CAT developed a fault, 2 weeks after getting the car at about 62500. luckily dealership replaced CAT at £1000, I had to pay labour, but was told no other faults.

engine is running great, uses some oil, about a 1/4 of the dipstick from the full mark. only thing i've noticed is the engine coolant light comes on sometimes, stays on for a while then goes out. its happening a bit more frequently, but have 6 months warranty left, so will inform the dealership and get a new water bottle. as i know the sensor is built into them and they develop faults. oh and the level is at the top ok, i'll maybe use some wetter water to help coolant out, heard its good.

i don't fancy the CAT going again as its not under warranty being part of the exhaust and was told a lot of warranties don't cover CAT's on cars, but have a years warranty on the CAT, so should be ok.

one thing i noticed on friday driving home i stopped at a few shops to get stuff and had to turn her over a second time to get her to start upon returning, and a bit longer than usual the second time i had made a stop to buy stuff.

it had been raining very heavy the drive home, i've heard rx8's dont like driving in the rain, harder on the fuel etc, is that true?

would damp air make the engine harder to start, even after a long drive? i started her yesterday in dry/sunny weather and she fired up straight away, with the lovely stainess exhaust crackle, which tells me everything is runnin fine.

I am also so dont be ashamed. I lost about $1500-$2000 on my trade, bought a warranty so im upside down. But I dont plan on selling and I have gap ins so I don't really let it bug me.

How much did you pay for it and when? I bought my 05 6mt touring 14 months ago for 15 grand witch is less that you owe now. That sux balls!:uhh:

I bought it in April of 2006 with 19,000 miles on it. The car booked for just a hair over 20,000 dollars and I paid 19,000 for it. I was in a lease previously that I broke and there was some inequity tagged onto that so all in all I paid 19K for the car + 6 grand of inequity - 5 grand down = roughly 21K + TTL = $23,XXX

Im in the low 15's for my payoff right now and a couple more years to go on the term. I plan on keeping this car anyways so Im not too worried about it.
