Has anyone else had some difficulty starting up your RX-8? Every once in a while mine takes 3-5 tries to get started. It's very inconsistent (most days it starts without a problem).

Dealer said it might be caused by using 91 octane gas, and I should try a lower octane. What do you think?

Thanks.

Every once in awhile it takes mine a few more seconds than normal to start. It is always sporadic and no rhyme or reason as to why it does it. But, it always starts. I have tried 93 and 89 octane with the same results....

Only twice in the 5 weeks I've owned the RX8. Recently switched to 87 octane for other reasons too.

Hi! Why did you switch, besides the obvious reason of saving some $$? (91 is $2.11 at my local Shell right now!!!)

hmm, ive never got any rough starts by using 91+ octane, here in VA its 87 89 93 and some have 94 as well. I have an auto tranny and im close to finishing my break in period. So far i have 540 miles and warmed up my car before i let it loose.

I've had some sporadic problems with starting as well; I'd say it happens once every two weeks or so. I start the ignition and the car takes about 3-4 seconds to start up, as opposed to starting cleanly and immediately. I've never used anything other than 91 octane and I always warm up before and let settle down after I drive. I'm going to try switching to a lower octane (probably 89) for a while to see if it makes a difference.
