Time: 9AM until were done or the shop kicks us out. Aiming for 6-7PM

Location: As of right now the only shop that has sounded interested and been available is Hybrid Works in Vallejo. They have a Dynojet 224X. The shop is kind of small but its located on a quiet commercial street so there should be no problem with noise or parking. Best of all its 10 minutes from my house. (one of the only perks of taking on the responsibilty of organizing this thing.)

Cost (Tentative): PM’s will be sent with information on how to make payments.

Forced Inductions cars: Dyno Cost: $110, Tuning Cost: $140 = $250.

Naturally Aspirated Cars: Dyno Cost: $75 Tuning cost $95 = $170.

Dyno only: $60.

All the tuning cost are for existing MM AccessPORT customers. If you have never been a MM AP customer or our calibration service has expired, the tuning cost will be $300 and you will be re-enrolled into the Calibration Service for 6 months. If your calibration service has expired within the last 1-2 months, PM me and we will see what we can do for you. Non AP users will be $300+, cost depends on the system used, send me a PM for details.

Non AP Users: The AP has been discontinued so you must purchase your AP no latter then the 30th of July. Follow the link and you will receive a $100 discount off the price of the AP. A dyno/tune day is by far the cheapest way to have your vehicle professionally tuned. If you were to rent a dyno and pay a tuner by yourself, you would expect to spend $300-$500 or more.

I need a 50% deposit before August 7th 2010 to secure your spot. The deposit is non refundable Final Payment can be made on the day of the event in cash. If you do not get your deposit in on time, your spot will be filled by someone on stand by and you will be put on stand by.

No, that is not correct. Had you bought the AP with the link and had it delivered at the dyno day you would have received a $100 discount on the AP at the time of purchase but you would still be required to pay for the tuning. Because you have already paid in full for the AP, there is nothing I can do to get you a $100 discount, but maybe Jeff will be feeling generous.

I brought the AP for 629 with shipping, that is the reason I want to ask. If jeff could take that tuning charge toward this dyno tune...

Dyno tuning: Meaning we will have a skilled professional (Jeff Abrams, AKA Mazdamaniac AKA MM) tune your car for maxium safe power by adjusting Air fuel ratio, timing and other cool stuff. The preferred device is the Cobb AccessPort (AP). Read up on the AP at http://www.mazdamaniac.com/cobb/accessport.htm

If you want to purchase an AP and attend this event, you get a $100 discount on your AP purchase if you follow the link on the first post. Please note that you must purchase the AP no latter then the 31st of this month. Cobb will no longer be selling the AP for the RX8, so this is the best time to purchase.

I want to check with everyone and make sure the location in vallejo is okay with everyone? The shop is a little small and messy but the dyno is in good shop and they are very happy to work with us and be flexible with start and end times.

The shop in Hayward (nextgen auto) that we used last time contacted me this week and they are now available. Plus Zcar Garage in San Jose (off 880 and 101) might also be interested.

I think everyone has the dynojet 224x.

Thoughts, opinions and can anyone not make a specific location due to distance/time?

I'm wearing my NextGen t-shirt right now.

That said, which ever shop is going to be the most flexible about times (read: a very loooooooong day), is the best option.

I live in vallejo so i vote dyno/tune day in vallejo hehe. im tryin to convince my brother with a turbo integra to have his car dynoed and a friend also with an rx8 to join us.

The vallejo location is only 10 miles from my house, the hayward shop is 45 miles and san jose is about 65 miles. However I think it is best to go with a location that works best for everyone.

We have one more that might be in for dyno + na tune. If he signs up, that will fill up our day and any additional vehicles will be on stand by. Any non-rx8 will be at the bottem of the list.

With that said, more vehicles is better.

I'm interested as well.

One question though: I placed my AP order yesterday before seeing this thread, so I didn't use the included link that gives the discount. Is it still possible to get the $100 off?

put me down for Greddy turbo and AP tune. Car just passed smog and is ready for the tune so it can be shipped to Germany in Sept/Oct.

I just wanted to make sure something is understood (I have had problems with this in the past):

You need to have an AccessPORT for me to tune your car.

So, either you already own one or you need to get one.

If you already own one that you purchased from me, you are covered.
If you own one that you purchased elsewhere, there is the usual surcharge and then you are covered.
If you don't have one, you better hurry because I'm not taking any more orders after tomorrow (Monday) morning and no one else will have them for very long if at all.

Surviving a dyno day:

Have your car in good working order. If it's been awhile since you've changed your plugs, air filter, tranny fluid, diff fluid, etc etc.. do it before the dyno day. Having some worries about plug wires, weird noise, strange smell? Get that stuff checked out before hand. There's nothing worse then seeing a car get up on the dyno only to find out something is wrong and no dyno can be done on it. There isn't time to run down gremlins and anything more then a minor issue (ie: oh, that vacuum line fell off.. that coupler is loose) will result in you wasting your time fixing it and then hoping there's enough time to get back on the dyno at the end.

I've been to a bunch of dyno days and outside of 1 time there has always been some poor guy who ended up having to frantically wrench on his car because of something that could have been fixed before he ever got to the dyno.

Highway8 (heretofore referred to as "da man") is the last word on slotting. He's setting up the rodeo and has put his time and energy into making it happen. He's making the list and checking it twice, so please be there on time. No one has to be there all day, but please be there when it's time for your run. This actually means earlier then your slotted time. You want to have time to get there, say hello, and then get your car ready for the pulls.

Depending on how the dyno operator wants to tie down the car you will either be strapped down using the front tires rear points.. or the tow hooks for the front bumper. Yes, everyone has two tow hooks located in the trunk of your car with the jack. If the dyno guy wants to use these then it's helpful for you to put them on once you get there.

Flexibility is king. Things will come up, people may get shuffled around, some cars might be on longer then others. This is usually unavoidable so be prepared to be flexible and calm. FI cars always take longer then NA cars to tune so be prepared if there's an FI car ahead of you.

Jeff is insane. The man is a machine when he's dyno'ing cars. Once he gets started he'll pretty much work like a hamster on crack till the shop keeper kicks us out or the last car is done. Outside of cigarettes and some crappy pizza, he'll be working on cars nonstop the whole time he's there. He's a great guy but understand that he's there to work so try not to "get up all in his chit" while he's working.

We're all there to have some fun. Treat others as you want to be treated... yadda yadda yadda.

Bring water. It's going to be a long day and having something to drink is key. Yes you can drive off to get a drink but then you miss the chance to see someone's car explode.. i kid, i kid.
Bring a chair. Yes standing around watching things happen is fun, but being able to sit down is nice


If you take nothing away from this but one thing, let it be this: Have your car in good working order. Go over all regular maintenance and change anything that needs changing

I can't decide if I will drive the car in street trim or trailer it in race trim. I really should put the catless midpipe on if nothing else, maybe race rubber too. If I trailer it I can bring tools, a jack, a cooler with water and maybe a bbq.

Now is the time to make sure your plugs and wires are good. Clean off the MAF sensor. New oil and filter. Replace or clean your air filter.

Surviving a dyno day:

Have your car in good working order. If it's been awhile since you've changed your plugs, air filter, tranny fluid, diff fluid, etc etc.. do it before the dyno day. Having some worries about plug wires, weird noise, strange smell? Get that stuff checked out before hand. There's nothing worse then seeing a car get up on the dyno only to find out something is wrong and no dyno can be done on it. There isn't time to run down gremlins and anything more then a minor issue (ie: oh, that vacuum line fell off.. that coupler is loose) will result in you wasting your time fixing it and then hoping there's enough time to get back on the dyno at the end.

I've been to a bunch of dyno days and outside of 1 time there has always been some poor guy who ended up having to frantically wrench on his car because of something that could have been fixed before he ever got to the dyno.

Highway8 (heretofore referred to as "da man") is the last word on slotting. He's setting up the rodeo and has put his time and energy into making it happen. He's making the list and checking it twice, so please be there on time. No one has to be there all day, but please be there when it's time for your run. This actually means earlier then your slotted time. You want to have time to get there, say hello, and then get your car ready for the pulls.

Depending on how the dyno operator wants to tie down the car you will either be strapped down using the front tires rear points.. or the tow hooks for the front bumper. Yes, everyone has two tow hooks located in the trunk of your car with the jack. If the dyno guy wants to use these then it's helpful for you to put them on once you get there.

Flexibility is king. Things will come up, people may get shuffled around, some cars might be on longer then others. This is usually unavoidable so be prepared to be flexible and calm. FI cars always take longer then NA cars to tune so be prepared if there's an FI car ahead of you.

Jeff is insane. The man is a machine when he's dyno'ing cars. Once he gets started he'll pretty much work like a hamster on crack till the shop keeper kicks us out or the last car is done. Outside of cigarettes and some crappy pizza, he'll be working on cars nonstop the whole time he's there. He's a great guy but understand that he's there to work so try not to "get up all in his chit" while he's working.

We're all there to have some fun. Treat others as you want to be treated... yadda yadda yadda.

Bring water. It's going to be a long day and having something to drink is key. Yes you can drive off to get a drink but then you miss the chance to see someone's car explode.. i kid, i kid.
Bring a chair. Yes standing around watching things happen is fun, but being able to sit down is nice


If you take nothing away from this but one thing, let it be this: Have your car in good working order. Go over all regular maintenance and change anything that needs changing

Racers tape works great, seriously it does. Not a permanent fix but a good thing to have at all times. I will be bringing some just in case.

Damn, I spent all that money on a procharger and I could have gone with that sweat ebay unit. Install 2 of those for each rotor and I could have gotten to 300HP for $200. I guess you live and learn.

I should be finishing up an oil change and installing my race pipe, but instead I decided to get the food ready for the BBQ tomorrow. I went with a set of 2lb ball tips and I add some veggies to the spread. See pics.

Those will be fried parmesan tomatoes with garlic and basil and fried garlic bell peppers.

Got a slow start and it took a while to finish car #1. Got through a few NA cars before the first FI. 297 HP out of the procharged RX8. Was wanting 320+ but after talking to Jeff and really thinking about it, 300 is kind of right where it should be and it feels much stronger then before tuning and not even the same car as NA.

Were a few hours behind but most people are being patient (thank you). I just hope the shop is kind when the payment comes due.

It was a great turn out. I think they're still going... My car was on the dyno for a bit (just before HWY8), and we were behind by noontime. :(

The pulleys seam to be doing fine, but the belt is getting a workout. I had no issues for the last 2 weeks but on the way here I noticed boost was down. I had a spair belt so I put it on. It held perfect for about 10 dyno runs and then boost was a little low. Tightened it up and it was good to go. I have a little left on the tenioner. I hope it's all I need, otherwise I will be looking for another fix.

BTW, still here. Last 2 Na cars.

With the greddy kit stock injectors and the stock cat it put out 220hp and 183tq Jeff said take the cat off for instant 20 hp but since I'm selling the car I'll let my friend do it if he wants to. I do want to thank Scott Jeff and everyone else that helped put something like this together I'll definitely miss the 8 but I'll still hang around the forums to see what's going on looks like a good turnout..are you guys all done already? what did the other FI'd 8 get on the dyno?

The car feels and drives great now thanks to Jeff. Cold air intake is one of the next mods and might remove the cat before it ships to Germany. I will post the dyno run from the weapon-r facility when we do the cold air intake hopefully early sept.

Those are good numbers, especially the torque. The flame shot was pretty sweet, though I'm surprised to see flames shoot out with a cat. Exhaust sounds nice as well. I'm sure your buddy will love the car when he gets it. Yours and HWY8's numbers are pretty good (and the build is equally impressive)... Certainly got me considering the F.I. route when funds become more readily available again.

That sucks! I just missed this. My wife wanted to trade up... Her and I traded in her '04 automatic to an '06 6-speed manual just this week... BIG power difference between the two. I need to keep an eye out for when this Dyno tuning is happening again. I need to change the spark plugs first though.
