I found this web page today and I really like it alot. I always have been partial to Mazda as they are the car company that has innovated and dared to be different. Mazda doesn't get enough credit. It was Mazda that would be the only company in the world that had a production rotary powered car. It would be Mazda that would perservere through the oil/fuel crisis of the 70's with the rotary engine.
Mazda would build a world class sporstcar with the Rx-7 in 1978 and in 1992 the automotive world was stunned with what would be the best overall performing japanese sportscar ever built in the FD.
Who can forget the 1991 Lemans win? This became one of the biggest landslide in lemans history with the last 3-4 hour of the race to itself. The only time a Japanese manufacture won Lemans, and due to A rotary design (787B)
Even in the piston world Mazda saw that there were no roadsters in production in America and brought it back. Did you know that mazda had the worlds smallest displacement 6 cylnder? in the early/mid 90's they had a 1.8 liter 6.
anyway Im getting off topic. We all know about the Rx-8. Nothing drives like it, nothing looks like it and nothing rev's like it. The rx-8 would not be possible if it had pistons.
Anyway, while Mazda pisses me off sometimes, I still respect this car company more so than any other. This is one company with a great history and the rx-8 carries on that tradition. All of the refinement you see in the rx- 8 is because of the history on that link.
Enjoy!!
