Wouldn't it be nice, if once a year we could host a "Sevenstock" like event at Laguna Seca in Monterrey? I'm in no way trying to diss the SoCal event or its people :Peace:. I just envision an event open to all Mazdas in a venue in which we can drive our cars the way we were meant to, and what better place the Mazda's famous racetrack.

I know the biggest drawback is money. In order to solve this we would have to extend an open invitation to the Rx7club, Miata.net, Mazda3forums, MOCC, Mazda's 24/7, and local clubs. Advertise at local dealerships and Mazda shops and ask for their patronage. Get as many vendors as we can to participate and possibly have our own fundraisers and volunteers at the event.

The average cost of renting the track is $15k a day, so that's 100 people at $150 a pop. I think that number is possible with all the above clubs involved. Maybe Mazda can make amends with its customer base and finance a small part of the event-wouldn't that be something?

Think about it, the biggest, baddest, Mazda gathering in the west coast. okay, discuss..

Ps: I posted this in the discussion forum, but figure this is more a west coast thing. NV, AZ and CA. What do ya'll think??

The Miata guys just had the track to themselves a few weeks ago. There was almost 400 Miatas on the track at once. It was pretty nuts. (It was set up like a parking lot to take a photo)

There just isn't enough rotary people around to do something like that on our own.

The bay area rotary / nor cal rotary club has been doing Thunderhill and Buttonwillow track events for years now, but RX-8 people don't seem to ever come.

btw, if this kind of event included all those clubs i'm certain it wouldn't just be a 'west thing' :D:

i'd love to hit the corkscrew just once in my life w/my 8 :fingersx:

LOL  Yeah I know I deleted it. Didn't want to get flamed for having two threads on the topic! I know how it is around here. :D:

Hey Paris, yeah dude I know, but there's something about Monterrey and Laguna Seca that's would be just the perfect location for an event like this. Kinda like when they host the Moto GP, it gets crazy over here. I once had the Ducatti team at my old work, it was bad ass. :)

i completely agree - i would love to hit laguna seca but like you said i'm pretty sure it'd be pricey.

Hell, i'd just like to have my picture taken NEAR laguna seca

Yeah, that's why I mention open invitation to the rest of the clubs, and promos at dealerships, and fundraisers. Maybe even beg MNAO to sponsor the event.

The primary issue with Mazfest in regards to rotary cars has been the location combined with the time of year. IIRC it's back in Fontana this year but has been moved to August which means it will be well over 100 degrees which will make it almost impossible to get any good track time.

Honestly I would love to drive Laguna Seca and wouldn't mind a slightly higher price tag for the opportunity.

When do these rotary track days happen? Where are they posted?

Back then, they were every three months or so. They used to be posted on here but no one responded once.

It's more like every six months now, and due to low participation we've had to invite non rotaries.

pff! geeks! :) Yeah, if something like this was ever to take place. It would have to happen with other clubs to get people to participate.

Like I said above, the Miata guys made it happen a few weeks ago. They didn't even need any other clubs.

Way back in the day we used to have Winter Wankel Wonderland at Laguna Seca. That was an all rotary track day.

We can certainly do an all rotary day at Thunderhill or Buttonwillow again if we can get the ball rolling. It's been a few years though, there just hasn't been enough interest from the rotary community.

his comment is very true.

a track event summer time is just very punishing, car and humans equally.

Location, location, location. Laguna Seca gets a cool sea breeze from Monterrey. It would probably also have to happen in the spring (late march/early april) then again, we would still have potential showers.
