View Full Version : Carrera GT or 2004 Shelby Cobra
mental pimp 01-27-2004, 05:44 PM Porsche Carrera GT - 612HP 445 Torque 3,045 lbs
2004 Shelby Cobra - 605HP 500 Torque 3,075 lbs
Which is faster? as in 1/4 and Track
neit_jnf 01-27-2004, 07:04 PM For the dragstrip it would depend on gearing, traction and driver. For the track I'd go fo the superior chassis and suspension design of the Porsche (IMO)
cueball 01-27-2004, 07:30 PM The Shelby is just a concept, so any numbers would be just speculation.
I know the Porsche runs something like an 11 second quater mile. Even the Shelby would have a hard time with that.
As for the track, I would give it to Porsche because of the amazing chasis it has. For all I know, the Shelby could be faster, but I think it would hard for them to pull it off.
zoom44 01-27-2004, 07:41 PM has anyone seen a commercial with a couple of country singer chicks driving in a hot convertible? i think it is a soda commercial, maybe dr. pepper. anyway the car is silverish with blue stripes from nose to tail.i was thinking that might be the new shelby cobra.
cueball 01-27-2004, 08:10 PM The Shelby Cobra Concept.

RobDickinson 01-28-2004, 09:46 AM Ones a real (serois)car and the other is a pipe dream.
I know shelby has been around, but that porsche is incredibly well engineered, designed and actualy functioning.
I'm far from a porsche fan but the Carrera GT is an awsom car, probably the best supercar around, if to soulless.
The cobra has far to many wild claims and not enough real car. Arnt they claiming 260mph or something? thats unacheivable from that car as is.
Hanzo 01-28-2004, 09:53 AM Carrera GT, because it's Mid engine, the g-force from launching will push the rear wheels down firmly to the ground.

I could have sworn it was a shelby cobra... All i can remember about that commercial are the tailights. Look likes a late 90s or early 2000s cobra. click for more pictures HERE (http://www.genesisautosales.com/DreamCars/Shelby%20Cobra/page_01.htm).....
Edit* After more research i came to the conclusion that it's a Shelby Series 1.
zoom44 01-28-2004, 07:19 PM thanks for the link. i am convinced that the car in the commercial is just like the one in this pic:
s13lover 01-28-2004, 07:36 PM Yes, the car in the commercial is the shelby series 1. I believe that car comes with a supercharger northstar V8 from GM and makes around 500hp.
mental pimp 01-28-2004, 08:46 PM im sorry but these shelby cars just suck, maybe they are good but i dont really see it
visitor 01-28-2004, 09:03 PM it's an oldsmobile aurora v8, NA. and that shelby will hand your ass in a platinum platter. next time you decide that some car sucks, think about the piece of shit your driving.
mental pimp 01-28-2004, 09:19 PM i dont have a car, so i dont have a piece of shit, and dont go crazy on me, im only 15
visitor 01-28-2004, 11:11 PM only 15, and going off on cars you have no idea about.....great.
Senseny 01-28-2004, 11:13 PM There is no doubt whatever is marqueed "Shelby" is pretty badass. But, a buddy of mine had a Series One in his trim shop and though it obviously goes like hell, its fit and finish sucked. Especially for the price. I go Porsche.

Aurora, my mistake. I just new it was a GM motor. I do know however that there is a supercharged model because I have a Motortrend with a road test of a production Series 1 that was supercharged.
Oh, and here is a link from Shelby's web page about the supercharger when it was first released.
http://www.shelbyautos.com/news.asp?action=detail&item=83
visitor 01-29-2004, 06:30 PM damn, supercharged series 1 would be pretty damn sweet.
Fanman 01-31-2004, 02:36 AM The Shelby Series 1 comes with the 320 hp Aurora 4.0 L V-8 standard, you can order the Vortech supercharger package and that will up hp to 450 hp. Does mid 12's.

It's a Salen S7 in that commerical.
zoom44 02-02-2004, 07:15 PM i dont think sohttp://www.saleen.com/images/S7%20Images/S7top.jpg
EzRidA 02-02-2004, 07:45 PM I could have sworn that I saw the Salen S7 in that commercial. I haven't seen it in over two weeks. Maybe I'm thinking the Mach3 advertisement. Disregard.
Edit: Just did a search on it and it is a vette. :D
BoysDontCry 02-05-2004, 01:58 AM The sheer aerodynamics of the Carrera GT should tell you right away which would be the winner.
Speed-ER doc 02-06-2004, 02:38 PM Isn't the new Cobra supposed to be about $250,000 less than the Carrera GT? Looks like a relative bargain at $95,000 (per Motor Trend).

Hey! Take it easy, i say watever the hell i wanna say ok?
Your not my mom or dad
Speed-ER doc 02-06-2004, 09:15 PM Sorry, the Carrera GT is actually $345,000 more than the new Cobra. The Cobra is probably trying to compete more with the next Z06 or Viper than a supercar.

I agree with pimp on this one. If he thinks the car sucks, so be it. I'm not a big fan of it either for that matter.

It has a .39drag Coefficent <----- Very bad for straitline-speed
On the other hand it has a CRAPLOAD OF DOWNFORCE!
I am sure the Carrara GT would take the Shelby but I want to know can it take the Enzo? and why have there been no comparison?
FamilyGuy 02-23-2004, 04:33 PM I'm just annoyed that Ford isn't innovating.
First, we have the retro Thunderbird.
Next, the retro Mustang. (Although to be fair, I do like the way it looks.) Now, they're bringing back the 500 nameplate and the Monterey. And now the Shelby Cobra....
Coming soon! The 2006 retro Ford Falcon! The 2007 retro Ford Galaxie! The 2008 retro Ford Edsel! The 2009 retro Ford Pinto, complete with new exploding gas tank!

Not innovating... Even though it is retro, I'd take a Ford GT in a heartbeat if I had the dough. That car is most supercars worst nightmare.
mmmdowning 02-23-2004, 07:02 PM I have always loved the Cobra and today would still take it. Dream of building a Factory 5 Racing Cobra. Gotta love those lines.
Factory 5 Daytonas are the way to go :D Both them and the Cobra are impressive kit cars for sure.
Sue Esponte 02-25-2004, 10:54 AM Who cares?
If you're shopping a Carerra GT it's not about lap time. It's all about Porsche.

racerdave 02-25-2004, 11:13 AM The Ford GT is a modern interpretation of a classic, legendary race car.
And it's performance is also race-car like.
No, not some tarted-up Civic/BMW/Integra etc that does touring car events.
A real race car.
It's awesome, and like Ike said, I'd take one in a heatbeat.
Even if they do a modern Cobra, it will be just that... modern, and will have the performance to match.
Hey, at least Ford is taking chances and producing this stuff.
Silverstone Z 02-26-2004, 06:59 PM id rather get the Porsche Carrera GT, it has the look and speed. it runs 11.4 1/4 mile. i dont know about Cobra as i dont like Ford's car/branches anyway...
