View Full Version : Ever wanted to know how different an NA rx8 feels compared to a turbo rx8 ?
Brettus 04-10-2010, 01:43 AM This chart might help give you and idea .

So if you accelerate in 2nd gear NA - the g forces will be identical to accelerating in 3rd gear in a turbo .
Note the slight lag as the turbo spools up from low rpm .
NB : corrected for US gearing ....
gregs 04-10-2010, 02:03 AM wow, nice..how did you get that n/a log?
Brettus 04-10-2010, 02:05 AM /\ was tuning a friends car a few days ago .
gregs 04-10-2010, 02:06 AM nice..i say time for a video!
Brettus 04-10-2010, 02:08 AM /\ you mean N/A vs turbo from a roll ?
swoope 04-10-2010, 02:09 AM asshole..
good luck with parts from usa!!
dickwad / fucktard!!!!
asshole!
hate you..
good job!!! :)
beers
NgoRX8 04-10-2010, 02:10 AM That's awesome. I do similar time measurements when I mess with my boost, but I never got a chance to do it NA to see how drastic the change is.

been there done that. Kane and i made a 4th gear pull from some stupid low rpm/speed. he was braking from upper rpms before i even really got moving. i couldnt have kept up with him if i had started in 2nd gear.
he has the 3071 MM special

is that the one you did a night ? - as i remember you can't see much on that ....

no, day/evening time. lighting/visibility isnt the issue, its scale/range. he left me so quickly, the only way to have had a better perspective would have been a third chase car with the camera. Which consequently would need to be able to keep up with Kane's more or less. Or a helicopter shot...
you cant see much, because with the camera mounted on my dash, once he was more than a few dozen yards ahead of me - you loose all sense of depth. the only thing that will compensate for that is: very nice camera equipment, elevation of camera angle, perpendicular camera angle(assuming you could keep both vehicle in the shot
Brettus 04-10-2010, 02:52 AM just need video camera , another car , two extra people and ..................... a helicopter and i'll do it .
paulmasoner 04-10-2010, 02:53 AM hehe ;)
Gr8Bullet 04-10-2010, 02:59 AM lol nice! make me want to get FI now.....

Good times.... I never thought of the camera issues personally. Makes some sense I guess.
The problem is that you want the perspective to be from the NA RX8 (which most users know how that "feels") to compare to the unknown (in this case turbo-ed car.) To do that you need a really good way to capture the full depth of the movement.
PS - Paul, compared to those days..... my car is on a whole new level. Wish you were around to let you drive it.

and thanks for you service for our country.. get back home safe!!!!!!!! :)
Meet me at the Annapolis boat show (Columbus Day 2010) or the house around the same time and I MIGHT give you my keys too.... for some rum.
Anyone who has met me knows that I very seldom say things that I am not willing to follow through on.
Brettus 04-10-2010, 03:36 PM Just thought of another way to look at it . Label the y axis $ spent over time and you have another good comparison of how it feels to own a turbo .
YaXMaNGTO 04-10-2010, 10:20 PM That's cool Brettus. I'd see a plot the turbo in 2nd gear included on the graph, just to see the increase in the slope of the line.
Brettus 04-10-2010, 10:47 PM /\ can hardly do 2nd - too much wheelspin ;)
managed to find a 2nd gear run for you . Probably was at a slightly lower psi than the 3rd gear run but you can get the idea .
Last bit, add in gearing, so you show the starting and ending MPH's.....:dunno:

your going to be in town. oct 11?
i very do trust you word on several levels.. got questions..
what is this silly thing you call rum?
beers
Detrich 04-12-2010, 02:07 AM u should have a footnote that the y axis also is how many miles in 10k increments as to when u can expect the engine to blow up... j/k
paulmasoner 04-12-2010, 02:35 AM mysql posted some stuff a year or two ago showing time/speed comparisons based purely on known math(meaning it doesnt take 1st gear traction into account). It was impressive how much faster 300whp is than stock. very impressive. I think most people who come here wanted to make power dont really know what driving a car with that kind of power/weight ratio is like

Yup... I'll be in old NN for the first half of Oct.
Brettus 05-31-2010, 05:32 PM when the first video reaches 5s start the 2nd one and the run through 3rd gear should coincide ....
