This chart might help give you and idea .

So if you accelerate in 2nd gear NA - the g forces will be identical to accelerating in 3rd gear in a turbo .
Note the slight lag as the turbo spools up from low rpm .

NB : corrected for US gearing ....

That's awesome. I do similar time measurements when I mess with my boost, but I never got a chance to do it NA to see how drastic the change is.

been there done that. Kane and i made a 4th gear pull from some stupid low rpm/speed. he was braking from upper rpms before i even really got moving. i couldnt have kept up with him if i had started in 2nd gear.

he has the 3071 MM special

no, day/evening time. lighting/visibility isnt the issue, its scale/range. he left me so quickly, the only way to have had a better perspective would have been a third chase car with the camera. Which consequently would need to be able to keep up with Kane's more or less. Or a helicopter shot...

you cant see much, because with the camera mounted on my dash, once he was more than a few dozen yards ahead of me - you loose all sense of depth. the only thing that will compensate for that is: very nice camera equipment, elevation of camera angle, perpendicular camera angle(assuming you could keep both vehicle in the shot

Good times.... I never thought of the camera issues personally. Makes some sense I guess.

The problem is that you want the perspective to be from the NA RX8 (which most users know how that "feels") to compare to the unknown (in this case turbo-ed car.) To do that you need a really good way to capture the full depth of the movement.

PS - Paul, compared to those days..... my car is on a whole new level. Wish you were around to let you drive it.

Meet me at the Annapolis boat show (Columbus Day 2010) or the house around the same time and I MIGHT give you my keys too.... for some rum.

Anyone who has met me knows that I very seldom say things that I am not willing to follow through on.

Just thought of another way to look at it . Label the y axis $ spent over time and you have another good comparison of how it feels to own a turbo .

That's cool Brettus. I'd see a plot the turbo in 2nd gear included on the graph, just to see the increase in the slope of the line.

/\ can hardly do 2nd - too much wheelspin ;)

managed to find a 2nd gear run for you . Probably was at a slightly lower psi than the 3rd gear run but you can get the idea .

Last bit, add in gearing, so you show the starting and ending MPH's.....:dunno:

u should have a footnote that the y axis also is how many miles in 10k increments as to when u can expect the engine to blow up... j/k

mysql posted some stuff a year or two ago showing time/speed comparisons based purely on known math(meaning it doesnt take 1st gear traction into account). It was impressive how much faster 300whp is than stock. very impressive. I think most people who come here wanted to make power dont really know what driving a car with that kind of power/weight ratio is like

when the first video reaches 5s start the 2nd one and the run through 3rd gear should coincide ....
