My original pump now has over 100k on it so I figure before I hit the track again I might as well replace it. So I contacted the great guys at BHR and they sent me this new present(OEM pump aasembly with Walbro pump:)):

BHR bling? I don't even get BHR bling.
OK I just got a new BHR windshield banner and a Mazdamaniac rear window banner.
We're working on some new bling. But the way we look at it BHR products > BHR bling.

I am just giving you guys shit because I know a couple of local guys that have bought little things and got BHR pens and Decals and I didn't any bling with my ignition kit or my pump. :) I wanna rep BHR!! I guess I'll have to hit you guys up in Vegas for decals ;)

BTW, I love the removal tool.

You guys will have to PM BHR for prices guys, it's kind of an off list item so I'm not sure what the final price would be.

of course they're not giving you Decals ... cuz they know each of them will add another 10-15 hp ...

I did mine 2 weeks ago. Hey maybe one of you will get my pump assembly with only 18K miles of use.

This one is a brand-new unit as we will no longer be offering the service and core swap. Too much hassle and people prefer a new assembkly as well as a new pump. Keep an eye on the BHR website for the new product listing sometime late next week.

9krpmrx8
03-26-2010, 10:00 AM
Yeah I didn't see the point of putting a new Walbro in a fuel pump assembly with over 100k on it.

Charles R. Hill
03-26-2010, 10:07 AM
Although there is nothing wrong with simply installing a new pump in an old housing, I remembered my experiences administering the clutch pedal welding service and core swap and I care not to go through THAT nightmare again.

That is why BHR now only offers the pump-only and the brand-new assembly with the Walbro installed.

We will also soon be listing a brand-new clutch pedal with the welding service applied and another noce little touch that should make the pedal last virtually forever.

BTW, that pump removal tool is pretty robust, ain't it? ;)

"Fake"? You mean there are shady performance retailers out there?

And people wonder why they can't find BHR on E-Bay or Craig's List. :lol2:

The ones from BHR have the part number and "Walbro" stamped on them.

Got it in today all the while watching the So Cal dyno day. The BHR removal tool made it a breeze. Had a little issue getting the smaller hose with the blue clip off the pump but it just needed some coaxing.

Car is running great!!! Check out the shoot I did after in the multimedia section ;)

shyzenhousen !
what have you been using for premix ?

9krpmrx8
03-29-2010, 10:14 PM
95% Lucas UCL, the last couple of tanks have been Lucas semi-synthetic low ash 2 stroke. I am not sure how much is the premix. This pump has 108,000 on it and there was a visible amount of dirt in the bottom of the pump assembly. I should also mention that 95% of the gas in my car has been Shell 93. A couple of tanks of Valero, Texaco, etc when there were no Shell stations around.

Lucas UCL FTL - LOL

Here is a pump that was in my tank since the Summer of 2006 until now and was ALWAYS exposed to pre-mix:

hrm.....what pre-mix are you using MM? How many oz per tank?

9krpmrx8
03-29-2010, 10:23 PM
Shit, mine looks bad. I just filled up and put UCL in (local member bought me a couple quarts). MM do you just use Jaso rated 2 stroke?

MazdaManiac
03-29-2010, 10:26 PM
No - I use the only thing that is intended to be used as a pre-mix on a rotary engine: Idemitsu.

I started premixing about a year ago. 4 oz of oil per tank. My tank and pump filter was clean.

Damn it. The evidence is pretty apparent. I will have to look for other filter socks and compare some more.

What do you use for premix al? Could it just be the years of dirt in the gas? 108,000 miles is a lot.

Brettus
03-29-2010, 10:33 PM
I should take mine out - 80,000km on a mixture of idemitsu and 2 stroke .

Yes, and all it will take is that first asshole who fails to return his to make sure we never loan tools out again. The BHR Fuel Pump Removal Tool is a LOT better than those cheap stamped steel units from your local parts store and, once again, BHR takes care of our people. That is because we have even better people who take care of BHR. He knows who he is........... ;)

I wish you guys would drop the "premix" cause pump fiilter clogging crap.....

I doesn't happen...it's your shit gas that is plugging the filters...

I have been pre-mixing for close to 5 years...and the filter on my pumps is still spotless.....

The viscosity of a pre-mix shouldn't even come close to clogging that filter, don't you think? It definitely has to be something else in the fuel doing that.

Buy gas at new gas stations...they have new plastic clean tanks.....and do high volume...therefore cleaner gas

Old stations with old tanks have years of accumulated crap on the bottom...and it gets in the gas...especially if you are lucky enough to be there right after they fill the tanks up.....

Or if they are sucking the last bit out of the bottom.

I will have to do that, I only use Shell but one of the stations I use is quite old. There is a new one near by, I will have to use that one from now on.

I never had a DOUBT about you, Scott. I just didn't want subsequent borrowers to get any "ideas". Much of how BHR is able to help as many as we do, as often as we do, is based on the notion that we RX8 owners are more honest than most average people, with BHR's customers even moreso.

I think I may be needing a pump very soon, lol. After a few nice days of enjoying how well everything flows now I suddenly found that I was leaning out before I could get to full throttle. Like it can flow enough fuel to get past 26.80lbs/min of airflow. Tho this is similar to what happened to my 7, never thought about replacing the pump till I cleaned up and increased the flow in the carb then the pump ran fine for a couple weeks then slowly stopped flowing the fuel needed.

Oh the irony of this situation too, soon as all my startup issues are in the clear something else crops up lol. Hey at least I'm seeing upwards of 23mpg right now :p tho my EGT is something close to 1900*F at the hottest now (was only seeing upwards of 1800*F before).

Yeah, I only use Shell 93 (always have) and only use the same couple of Shell stations but there is a new one by the house so i will try and only use that one from now on. I wish there was some type of filter you could put in the gas inlet to further it even more :)
