Here we were yesterday, taking the Beaudesert road out of Beenleigh heading for Canungra. Still within the speed limit, but taking a sweeping curve at about 40km/h higher than the yellow sign. Doing OK, too, back drifting out, perhaps a notch or two high in the gears, but elegant nonetheless. Obviously the DSC thought I was a bit too elegant, because it cut in momentarily; a little blip to put me back on track. Cool.

I used to think that doing chemistry was about as much fun as you could have with your pants on, but driving the 8 comes close.

Any DSC virgins out there?

It is interesting to run through the same corners DSC on/off. I feel the DSC is pretty subtle when driving with it on (ie, don't 'feel' it's intervention) … but driving with it off shows the 8 as quite a different (fun) beast.

I'd be curious to know if driving through the "learning" window with the dsc off makes any difference.

Isn't the ECU constantly learning though?

The car understeers less with DSC off. Even when it is switched off the DSC will still cut in if you decide to be really aggressive (or are running with big bore sports bikes).

However if you hold the DSC button in for 5 sec (DSC/TCS off) you are on your own, which I kind of agree is best left for racetracks not public roads (and I'm talking corner speed here not trying to spin the rear around slow corners!).

I don't know. I don't write software. All I know is that the ECU is constantly optimising the way the engine runs based on all of the inputs it is recieving. Change an input (type of fuel, style of driving, change your intake, exhaust etc), and it will learn the new variables and adjust accordingly.

It apparently only takes 10-15 minutes to learn any changes.
