View Full Version : Stage 1 and auto owners
my10ae 01-22-2004, 05:52 PM Hi all:
With all this talk about how great the install and power feels with the manual people, how about us auto owning 8 guys/gals? I have already told Maurice I'd pay the money to get the stage 1 setup for my auto. My question is to everyone else who owns an auto 8, would you be willing to purchase this unit?
I know the HP increase would not be as significant as the 6sp, but something is better than nothing. Even if power comes on from 4.5-5K to redline, that still give us about 2.3K to play with. The way I see it, any extra HP is better than no HP at all.
Now, I know Maurice has worked many many hours of perfecting the stage one ECU mod, who would be willing to pay for one for your auto 8?
Please post up here if you are interested.
Thanks,
Kevin
<who hopes the stage one will someday be available for auto 8's> :D
mikeb 01-22-2004, 06:29 PM I would pay in a second
I already have exhaust and intake and I'm looking for MORE
Gord96BRG 01-22-2004, 09:29 PM Unfortunately, the bigger question is - who is willing to give Maurice their automatic RX-8 for a month or two for the development work? Maurice has a 6 speed and is developing the Stage 1 and Stage 2 etc. on his own personal car, and there isn't an auto available to him just now...
Regards,
Gordon
mikeb 01-23-2004, 05:28 PM only if I lived closer
Kagero 01-24-2004, 09:53 PM I agree! Iwill pay! Please

Pretty close to the truth.
Actually we would probably need it for a week. No more.
The bulk of the work could now be done on a weekend. We DO know a lot more about this car than when we started.
However, this requires a week where the road conditions are pretty good.
While we do someof the work on a dyno, we HAVE to do road runs too.
At -40 tonight, and lots of snow, we are not doing much road testing at present!
Seriously, come springtime, if someone can help us out with making a car available with AT, and if 10 people were to commit, we could probably do it.
Things we would have to do:
1) Drill a hole in your exhaust pipe, before the cat, to install a wide band O2 sensor.
2) Run about 200km on it on dyno and road tests.
red_rx8_red_int 01-26-2004, 09:38 PM I think another option might be if someone with an AT would ask CZ for a MT unit to try it in the AT (of course the person must be willing to put a deposit down equal to the purchase price of the MT unit), and be willing to take a chance of blowing their engine or transmission (which I think would be very very slight, please correct me if I'm wrong CZ). Any takers? My thinking is that while the unit is not optimized for the AT, it might be close enough to not damage anything and provide enough increased perfomance to warrant an AT owner to buy it.

I do not **KNOW**, but I believe the tune on the AT would be substantially different than the MT version.
They have tuned it for more torque down lower in the rpm range.
The advertised specs for the RX-8 claim quite a bit higher maximum torque on the AT version.
stownz 01-27-2004, 12:11 AM I'd definitely buy one as well, if it improves the performance of my Auto 8.
my10ae 01-27-2004, 09:25 PM Maurice:
Wish you lived closer as I would let you have my car for how ever long it takes. Once the roads clear up in April, I take my sleeping Miata out of storage. Anyone with an auto 8 live close by to Maurice?
emailists 01-27-2004, 09:40 PM Not that this has anything to do with the RX8, but I am just now selling my Probe GT '94 auto trans that I put a G-Force chip into (as well as K&N intake and Greddy cat back)
The shop mistakenly put in a superchips, and when they finally got the G-force in there the car was much more responsive, so by all means I think just because you have the auto trans doesn't mean you should be happy with stock! Good luck, and I hope you guys get a piggyback ECU from some vendor.
Also BTW the Gforce chip changes the VRIS points- I asked them to open it up about 500 rpm earlier- and you can really feel the pull when they open up.
sohcpunk 01-31-2004, 03:16 PM Count me in for the unit also!
canzoomer 01-31-2004, 09:54 PM Before we all get too enthusiastic, please remember the key elements for this to takeplace will be:
1) Availability of a car.
2) Good weather.
Thanks!
my10ae 01-31-2004, 11:38 PM Again I ask, who is close by to Maurice to lend him your 8 to get this "in the works"?
Speed Racer 02-01-2004, 12:01 AM Kevin,
I think it is time for you to take a vacation and go visit Maurice in Edmonton to get the ball rolling. ;)
JeRKy 8 Owner 02-04-2004, 11:47 PM Im somewhat interested but Im not sure Id buy it b/c I have afeeling that the Stage 1 wont do too much for the auto Rx8. Maybe after some test results I would change my mind. I would hope that it could atleastbring us back to the old bogus advertised rating of 210 crank hp. But guys I am speculatingthat the auto owners couldy see decent gains is if a Stage 2 version for the auto were produced. Maybe we should shootfor that instead of the Stage 1. Only problem is that I thinkthat we would have warranty issues w/that.
sohcpunk 02-05-2004, 02:41 AM I think we would have the same gains similiar to the MT because isnt it just remap of the fuel system? And about stage 2, just put pack the old pipe when bringing in for service, no big deal.
JeupRX-8 02-16-2004, 07:25 PM I would be interested also, but wouldn't we need new transmission software for it to handle a proposed stage 1, intake, exhaust, and midpipe? I don't wanna blow a tranny on a car I just bought.
Troy J.
JSE RX-8 02-17-2004, 06:04 PM count me in as well but i want to see proof first that it works on the auto with no problems before i decide to make the purchase
JeupRX-8 03-16-2004, 07:16 PM Has anything turned up lately, or are you guys too busy with the manual stuff???
Troy J.
JSE RX-8 03-16-2004, 07:40 PM i guess so lol haha

rjenk 03-26-2004, 05:48 PM Count me in...
sorry...now out...sold my 8.
canzoomer 03-27-2004, 12:03 AM As I said before, if we get an auto to tune on, and about 10 interested people, it would be worth doing.
It would take us about a day to do the testing/tuning, then maybe a couple of hours later again to finalize it.
If someone wnats to organize this I am willing to do the work.
huhsler 03-27-2004, 10:49 PM Well, count me in for a buy. However, I'm nowhere near Canada. I will eagerly follow this thread!
bagman 03-28-2004, 12:20 AM Count me in as well! I might be heading up to Portland, O. sometime this summer, and might be able to head up your way but I wouldn't count on it.
Doesn't anybody with an A/T live in Canada?!?
mikeb 03-29-2004, 03:13 PM I'm in
echelon 03-30-2004, 03:57 AM I'm definitely IN!
mmmdowning 03-30-2004, 05:30 AM i'm in.
therm8 03-30-2004, 01:19 PM I'm in as well. Just wish i lived closer..
ashmason 03-31-2004, 05:47 PM More power for the Auto! Count me in too. Just need someone with an Auto to provide the car now. Not me, I am in LA...
BoxerGT2.5 03-31-2004, 09:40 PM I would be in for dang sure!
mikeb 04-01-2004, 12:17 PM is that enough people yet?
CanZoomer JR 04-01-2004, 01:43 PM Still need the car
BoxerGT2.5 04-01-2004, 02:21 PM Have any rentals in the area??? Dumb thought sorry..:)
mikeb 04-02-2004, 02:04 PM someone give up their ride PLEASE>>>>>>
my10ae 04-02-2004, 06:20 PM I would give my 8 for the tuning time it would take, but I am too far away. No one from the west coast drive an 8 that is close to Maurice?
Twinturbo2800 04-05-2004, 11:06 PM oooh. id buy that. my auto is looking for some more power!
DeNile' 04-07-2004, 10:51 AM I'm In!!
my10ae 04-09-2004, 10:29 AM MikeB:
I think you are the closest one to Maurice living in CA. Maybe you could take a trip up to see him to get this mod done for all us auto owners.
Auto owners UNITE... Who is in favor of Mikeb taking a ride to see Maurice to get us the CZ stage 1? Raise your hands!! :D
Speed Racer 04-09-2004, 10:57 AM Hey, I don't own an auto but I'd still nominate Mikeb to take one for the team. ;)
mikeb 04-09-2004, 12:17 PM thanks guys
there is nothing more I would like to do then help everyone
but I doubt I could take the time off from work
my10ae 04-09-2004, 07:34 PM Aww come on Mike. Look at all those auto owners who would forever be in debt to you. :)
Seriously, I think you are the closest one to Maurice...unless someone in Canada with an auto steps up to the plate?
Man... we have a chance at this and no 8 for Maurice to test on!! :(
JeRKy 8 Owner 04-17-2004, 03:11 AM There hasgot to be someone in Canada who posts here and owns an auto. Maybe weshould go and flex our muscle in the Canada forum. I am impressed that thereare so many of us who would be interested.
HiTMaNN 04-19-2004, 02:37 PM id do it but there is no way i can pull that off
Like Here (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=326965#post326965)
JeupRX-8 05-01-2004, 11:39 PM Would it be possible to buy the 6MT version, and modify it to 7500 rpm, etc. Or, is this to much work to be done? I would really like to modify my own, to get more torque and hp lower, than @ the high peak... but I dunno anything about this crap.
Troy J.
14s4doorNA 05-05-2004, 10:19 PM I would buy it too. I just pulled a 16.6 @ 87 on my G-tech.
JeupRX-8 05-10-2004, 10:22 PM Are auto owners ever going to get attention from Canzoomer!?!? I will probably be driving the 6-spd. sooner than they get this ECU for the auto's.
Troy J.
Speed Racer 05-11-2004, 10:28 AM Troy,
Maurice said that he would do a version for the auto but he needs someone to offer up a car for a couple of days so that he can program the unit and so far no one has stepped up to the plate. So are you ready for a road trip to Edmonton?
mikeb 05-11-2004, 12:30 PM I even started a thread in Canada forum asking for help from auto owners and I got no replies
jonny 05-14-2004, 08:48 AM I'm in too--still no volunteers? Any alternatives--I'm in Texas so I'm of no use.
Genom 05-14-2004, 11:08 AM Like I said before, buy one and tune it yourself. Whoever is the auto user that does that could probably make a lot of new friends selling the map alone.
Or wait for the auto-tuning stuff using the OBDI interface. Get pro-active about it.
dannobre 05-15-2004, 09:13 PM I hate to be a pill....but I hope he finishes the MT version and I get mine....Before he stsrts a new project :D
JeupRX-8 05-18-2004, 05:56 PM I would if he was in Toronto, but I am in Michigan; and Edmunton is by Seatle.
Troy J.
my10ae 06-18-2004, 06:33 PM Does anyone in Canada own an auto 8? Geesh if Maurice wasn't on the other side of the country I'd be all over this mod.
Anyone out there can help us auto owners out? :(
EatMyBanana 06-18-2004, 08:41 PM South Carolina is just to far:( I just want more power between 2000 and 4000 rpm. after that the car is fast.
mikeb 06-21-2004, 04:50 PM ditto ^^^
JeupRX-8 06-21-2004, 10:38 PM Give it up guys, this will never become a reality.
TroyJ.
canaryrx8 06-25-2004, 11:58 AM optimism is good!
arr ex eight 06-28-2004, 02:35 AM i'm in....whos maurice and where does he live
mikeb 06-28-2004, 04:48 PM maurice makes the ecu
and he lives in canada
CanZoomer JR 06-28-2004, 05:16 PM Edmonton, Alberta to be more specific.
JeupRX-8 07-06-2004, 07:37 PM Are you guys even interested in making this? It would not be to hard to get a Rx-8 in your area if you really wanted to produce this.

If so, it is hard to get one up in Canada for them to develop on Troy... they've been trying to find one for months. If you drive up there and let them use your car you'll make a lot of people on the forum very happy.
mikeb 07-07-2004, 05:01 PM I posted in the canada thread and nobody responded
JeupRX-8 07-07-2004, 10:04 PM Indeed every AT owner will be happy, but I am in Michigan. I think you need to go on a trip up north Mike. :)
2PIPES 07-08-2004, 03:35 PM I'M YET ANOTHER AUTO OWNER WHO WOULD BUY SOME POWER. SOMEONE PLEASE BE A MAN AND TAKE A TRIP. BESIDES, IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A FUN TRIP!

dude you are way closer to Maurice than he is plus you are more used to the climate. :D
JeupRX-8 07-15-2004, 10:30 PM Maurice above California. I am closest to Toronto. How is Mike (in Cali.) further not closer than me?
Omicron 07-16-2004, 12:28 AM No, Maurice above Wyoming. You are definitely closer.
mikeb 07-16-2004, 02:39 PM just do it
Speed Racer 07-16-2004, 02:59 PM According to MapQuest you both live about the same distance from Edmonton, Alberta.
Orange, CA - 1,754 miles
Grand Rapids, MI - 1,851 miles
So just flip a coin and decide who is going to make the drive. :p

but I am retard at electronics
Omicron 07-17-2004, 10:14 PM Are you ok with computers, Mike? If so, you can probably handle this...
