A month or two ago I bought some LED parking lights (8) I believe and one of them is already burnt out. A couple of local members warned me about this but I thought it was nonsense and now bam!! They are burnt out. I have bought several things from RotaryFX and it just pisses me off.

You might want to look into any parking lights that have a heat sink attached to them. The LED's for the parking lights tend to get pretty hot and LED's don't handle the heat very well.

Thanks for the info. Will research.

vleds. had them for a year strong and counting + rx8 members get a discount. It feels good to save :)

I had some from RotaryFX go out on me and I just told them about it. They had me send
them back and they sent me new ones. That was after a week though, I don't know
about a month.

If you google for the Vleds coupon, you should find it. I think there was a good one that was "cavcode" or something like that. 15% off maybe?

ijdmtoy.com has good LEDs. the ones from FX are kind of cheap..

Yeah I was hoping the bad press would pressure them into sending me new ones :)

that sucks 9k!! well it'll prevent me from buying them!! i just had a fog go out on me (not from there) so i'm leaning with vled now for that and other exterior lights - they seem to be getting the most good reviews.

I've had two go bad. Unless they put heatsinks on them they aren't worth a damn, and I won't be buying any more lights from them. Everything else has been fine and good shipping too, just cheap bulbs.

I had LED parking lights in my 8 for 3 years, never burnt out... then again mine costs about 4x more than VLEDS and RotaryFX. PIAAs FTW!

I bought my 8 with blue LED parking lights... one started to go out (flickering) Cops pulled me over for that.

I ordered hyper white LEDs from VLeds, they lasted a week... and considering I cut my hands all up when I replace the parking lights, I don't care if they send out free new ones or not, I just don't like the hassle.

I ordered hyper-white incondesant bulbs... they're not as bright, but still got rid of that yellowish look that OEM had.

The remaining blue LED fit into the door of my Bronco, where it currently is doing just fine, oddly enough.

Can anyone show me a picture of the LED with heatsinks? I could probably solder heatsinks onto mine or something.

Although I guess the plastic casing around the LED structure would make it difficult.

Yeah two local members warned me but I didn't listen :). I'm too lazy to search does anyone know the bulb fitting number? I'd like to search fro some PIAA's or something of good quality.

It's the heat that kills the LEDs.

I will never by these bulbs from RotaryFX. I am through 2 sets in the last 4 months, all 4 bulbs burnt out....what an absolute waste of money and all in all a poor experience. Figuring what next, for now I've got no functioning parking lights

i had vleds for probably 6months with no problems and then switched to rotaryfx and they blew
the only reson i switched was because they matched my 6K lights better
ive had vleds in the interior and in the license plate light for bout a year now with now problems anywhere
note they do flicker when you close your door and they arent all the way lit up...does that make sense?

Pretty much just stay away from rotaryfx as far as lighting goes. One of my yellow fog light bulbs went out this morning after only a few weeks.

I had the vled parking lights that everyone recommend here, but the blew out after about 8 months of use. i was expecting a greater longevity since they cost about $10 per bulb. Now I am no longer sure if I want to order another set from them.

Well the first thing I'd check for is secure wiring connections, especially if the vibration from shutting the door is causing the flicker.

Mine do the same thing. I have VLED's everywhere and I think it's from the way the car's dimmer switch works.

For the fogs I always suggest Hoen lamps. They last forever and match the xenon really well. For the side markers and reverse lights I use the stealthusa bulbs. I dont like being able to see the LED lamp and the chrome finish basically vanishes once installed.

9krpmrx8

Well that that shouldn't be an issue if you maintain the dimmer at 100%. If it's not the connection the next place I'd go would be heat, and if that's a non-issue, your voltage regulator may need to be tested and/or replaced. (If you are running one that is..) Take some time off and and run a voltmeter on some points and see what you come up with.
I'm no pro, just offering suggestions. If I'm completely off, I apologize. :evil_laug

slvrstreak
02-22-2010, 04:46 AM
the flickering isnt caused by connection problems...the LEDs arent designed for progressive lighting like the rx8 has when the doors are close...only settings the LEDs work effectively at are bright and dim...no in between

i'd stay away from any led bulb that has multiple leds on it. I used many different bulbs in my previous cars from superbrightleds.com and the 4-led and 6-leds are the ones that burnt out first. the single leds are still working fine, but are not as bright....
Anyone have any led parking lights hold up to the engine bay/ headlight heat? if not i'm going to go old school and just get super white halogens again. lol

Thank you Laythor.

Got rid of the uber shitty Rotary FX crap yellow fogs and LED parking lights bucked out for some HOEN yellows (installed :)) and City driving lights (not installed yet). Best $40.00 I have spent thus far. Shitty pics but they look great in person.

So i've read through this post and have been scared away from going to RotaryFX for my parking lights. I'm gonna go to VLEDs, but a few of you said you have interior LEDs from Rotary, how are those holding up? Cuz I want to redo all my interior lights with the hyperwhite LEDs and don't feel like shelling out like $70 for lights that'll last me about as long as a tank of gas =p

the second pic isn't working so i can't see the parking lights, are they LED? how nice do the fogs look in person when coupled with HIDs? Cuz I definitely want to get yellow fog bulbs and was considering getting LEDs in the city lights but like i said before i'm scared to trust RotaryFX now haha:tear:

the VLED lights will hold up but you have to get the right ones
http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED/DomeMap-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-HID-WHITE-4-M-p8187987.html
try these...brighter than any of the others i have had too

wherever you get them from they need to be SMT (brighter and more durable) and they to have heatsinks so they will not blow

Sorry I can't find my second pic but the Hoen city lights are not LED they are just regular bulbs but have a blue coating that makes them white somehow. My Hoen bulbs are going strong.

My rotaryFX interior lights are still working but honestly they don't get used that much since I don't drive a ton. But I have the fog light mod done and I drive with my headlights on when I drive so they get more use.

Grungepup just got a nice set of parking lights from VLEDS. They looked very high quality and the color and brightness is perfect.
