ok lots of people have the filter positioned outside the engine bay under the bumper.

I have a HKS mushroom under the bumper but due to my intercooler I have to remove my bumper to service it.

I'm wondering what everyone is doing to service their filters?

I was thinking about changing to a smaller K&N filter that may allow me to drop the filter out the front or pull it back through the engine bay to clean it. if you are doing this what filter are your using?

 

I can remove my front bumper in 10mins now that I have done it a handful of times.

taking the bumper off is so f-ing easy. 1 screw driver + 1 10mm socket + ratchet is all you need.

and yes, its about 10 minutes of work.

 

yeah I know but I still think it is a lot of effort for a small task.

 

funny enough i find removing the bumper less annoying the trying to squeeze the stock box open,

could try going on a ramp and disconnecting the black under plastic to try and pull it out, not sure where it is, i have a aem and very easy to get to

 

then you should have considered that when you mounted the intake there.
Always remember: Things take as long as you want them to. If you believe that removing the bumper is a great ordeal and will take "a lot of effort" then it will.
If you realize that it truly is a 10 minute job then this situation is easily remedied

 

My one will squeeze out the top if I remove the steel bumper top brace .........

 

yeah the std air box was a PITA also. the intercooler blocks the removal from underneath.

what makes you think i didn't consider this? however sometimes your limited and forced to do things you would not otherwise consider due to cramming a SC under your hood.

true you can make a job harder than it really is. maybe I'm just sick of removing the bumper. I have done it thousands of times fitting different intercoolers and various pipe combinations.

still the removal of my bumper is restricted by the headlight washer line and I always tend to forget the fog light connectors. also the plastic mounting points are wearing with the removal frequency. Most of the removal is intercooler and piping development. once it is sorted the filter only needs to be looked at every 6 months or so.

the question was really aimed to see if there was another solution out there. if you think it isn't an issue then that's ok, but if there was a suitable filter size that can be pulled back though to the engine bay then that would be much better IMO.


what size filter are you running?

I was considering a little KNRU 2510 but the filter area is very small and still wouldn't pass through the hole in the front.

 

Damn, after putting a Supercharger in your car and your mad you have to take off the front bumper to clean a air-filter? Hell man id be happy to take off the front bumper after installing a SC, jeeze lol a SC sounds complicated to install compared to a few screws and bolts to remove the front bumper.

 

maybe it's just me I just find removing the bumper a PITA and I always cut and scratch my hands on the plastic. my SC only takes 3 bolts to remove.

 

Damn, never knew it was so easy... lol

 

it's quite large in diameter , maybe 6" but very short , maybe 4" ...

 

they make these things called gloves to protect your hands ....
