View Full Version : Wakefield raceway /drive day??
Lock & Load 01-16-2004, 06:50 AM Rick Shaw is conducting a rotary race/driveday at Wakefield raceway in Sydney on the 2ND of April 2004 .
Spoke to him on the phone RE: ECU ,DYNOS AND GENERALLY ABOUT THE RX8.
A very experienced rotary guru Rick Shaw will be on hand to share his fast experience with fellow rotorholicks.
So far we have Wildcard Hymee and Myself interested in going to Wakefield , Rick only wants maximum of 30 cars at wakefield so if you are interested we have to get back to him A.S.A.P.
Let me know if you wish to attend or contact Hymee , or Rick Shaw direct .
A great opportunity not to be missed IMHO.
Cheers
michael
PS: Rick stated that he may be able to do some mods to your ride if you want it if youwere to stay a few days in sydney,
Hymee 01-16-2004, 06:52 AM Ric,
Can you post some more info regarding cost to attend?
Also - can this be done under the guise of "Driver Training" :)
Cheers,
Hymee.
Lock & Load 01-16-2004, 06:56 AM HMMMM
Great idea a tax deductible driver training day in my wifes Honda jazz converteed / modified to look and drive like an RX8 .he he he
Hymee 01-16-2004, 07:52 AM My leave pass might not be valid for racing... "Driver Training" might be a different story. ;)
Hymee 01-16-2004, 07:54 AM If they are all rotaries, will that make it a Wanklefield day??
RIC SHAW 01-16-2004, 08:23 AM guys, yes it is the 2nd of APRIL 2004, at a cost of $120 plus a Wakefield lic if you dont have a cams lic. but i dont make any money from this as it all covers the track costs. the last one we did was great, with no damage to cars or peolpe. i will be an instructor on the day as i do a bit of racing and have instructed for the old NSW mazda club many years running. but you arent allowed to scare or kill me. i will have my rx8 and GTP rx7 there. my friend brad will need to know numbers soon as he is controling it all.let me know if you want to come, call me!!!!!!! and you can take passengers ! it is a driver training day but flat out , we will group cars by speed.
Hymee 01-16-2004, 01:59 PM Ric,
I'm definately interested. I just need to sort out a leave pass and logistics etc. My plan would be to drive down on the Thursday, and try to get a good nights sleep before Friday, and drive home Saturday.
Cheers,
Hymee.
PS - I guess I better change my tag from Race Steward to something else now there are a few "real" racers here :)
Lock & Load 01-16-2004, 04:06 PM Rick
Count me in , hopefully i will be coming up with Hymee and a few others , and stay for a few days and get a few extra mods to my ride.

RIC SHAW 01-16-2004, 07:51 PM Hymee, we may need a steward at Wakefield to bring out a pace car as we now see altoo often these days. sorry i souldnt dig but i"m use to reving my very good mate Colin osborne ( president of CAMS ) as i work on his race cars. love to see you there .
RIC SHAW 01-16-2004, 08:06 PM news for the drive day. "Serious business" are doing a DVD story on RX8s with my car and others from work shops and we have asked them to come along. there is a dvd they sell on the rx8 by 'Best Motoring" called "Rotary Reborn" great to watch. see www.seriousbiz.com.au
Love to be there, but the distance and work commitments are prohibitive.
An opportunity to rub shoulders with Ric Shaw and learn some finer points of racing , and Michael (L&L) to see him in action with members of the opposite sex, is almost unsurpassable, but hey I've got tax bills to pay:(
takahashi 01-17-2004, 06:21 PM A rich dentist like you no problem lar ... AMG
Too far for me... how would you drive so long then race and back to Melbourne - too much stress for the engine

With around 30 rx8 attending wakefield some with passengers AMG YOU COULD BECOME THE OFFICIAL RX8 DENTIST .
Hey after examining all our teeth and being payed in cash you could overcome all your tax problems .
Sounds like you need a creative accountant to overcome your tax problems.he he he.
Your right you are going to miss an unsurpassable opportunity.

Wildcard 01-17-2004, 07:46 PM 2nd April... Friday... D'oh. I think work commitments might prevent me from going. I might be a late addition, but at this stage I'll have to count myself out.
P.D.U 01-18-2004, 09:09 AM Ric, L&L,
I'm definately interested in attending but the 2hr drive from Sydney means taking the day off work. Please put me down as a maybe for now and I will confirm later.
Thanks,
P.D.U
I was at the last Wakefield day, as organised by Ric's mate Brad (ADJUST on AusRotary) and it was fan-bloody-tastic! And I didn't even drive. :D
If you're serious about coming, best to read this thread on AusRotary (http://ausrotary.dntinternet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23135&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) and check with Ric and Brad that there are places still available.
Then, keep an eye on the AusRotary thread because as there are a lot of Sydney people coming to Wakefield they usually organise some chepa overnight accomodation in Goulburn for the Thursday night.
T'would be great to see a couple of '8s running around Wakefield.

RIC SHAW 01-20-2004, 05:10 AM guys, the drive day on the 2nd april is full . any enquiry to Brad at
mys38u@hotmail.com or ph 0403057077.
ADJUST 02-02-2004, 07:00 PM hey all,
my names Brad, im the guy organising these track days :)
i have a list of 5 people from this site that are coming, i need these 5 people (Michael, Tim, Phil, Mark and Paul). i need all you guys to contact me and confirm you are coming. i also need payment in the next week or so to secure your spot. no money, no spot, people are too willing to pull out when they havnt paid. i know this seems harsh but its the only way it works :) you guys can contact me via email at mys38u@hotmail.com or on my mob which is 0403 057 077 :)
as Ric mentioned the day is full, i have 32 cars composed of 13 gen 1 rx7's, 5 gen 2 rx7's, 5 gen 3 rx7's and 5 rx8's, 3 rx3's and an rx corolla. the day is fully described at www.ausrotary.com (http://) and going to the events section. the readers digest version is;
the day is open to spectators and passengers are allowed. drivers and passengers must have pants, long sleeves, covered shoes and an approved helmet. passengers require a CAMS license or a wakefield license (can be bought on the day for $30 and is an annual license). passengers will be charged $20 for the day and this money is going to charity. if passengers donate an hour of their time marshalling they can ride for free (still req license). the last day was sensational with a great atmosphere and attitude amongst everyone. we had several cars lapping 1.13 and under and many well over 1.20!! Ric had his GTP rx7 which was great to see.
the driving starts at 9am but drivers are req to be there at 8am sharp, the day finishes at 4pm with a trophy presentation :)
i usually organise accom for the night before great chance to meet people and socialise a little. i will let you all know when and where this will be so you get a chance to come down :)
thats about it, for more info please contact me on the above details, i hope to hear from the drivers soon and see some of you down there having a great time ;)
Brad
Brad,
Don't forget I'm on top of the waiting list for cancellations. I'll be there anyhow, even just as a spectator, to meet and see.
