No, you can order your tickets starting on Tuesday, December 8, 2009.

We are trying to get Continental to donate a set of tires or at the very least, offer discount coupons as a give away for our members.

Go ahead and start a list, make sure that they specify a color. The cost is $5.00 a piece. If anyone want a large banner size, they run $13.00.

Marlon, I started a thread in the NW Forum and I'm getting more questions for ya...

http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=187890

What are the measurements for both sizes - regular and banner?
I was thinking the ones on Patrick's car are the same height as the regular Zoom-Zoom sticker, but longer by about 9 or so characters - are they close to 18"?

How do you want to be paid? Paypal, check...?

Great, thanks. I'm setting a deadline of January 3rd, then I'll get you the list of orders so you can make them. Each person will send their payment separately, if that's ok with you. I'm getting people from other areas outside the NW who want them, so it's not gonna work for me to do one order and distribute them myself.

No problem, I am meeting with Steve Focazio and the rest of Grand-Am Marketing next week, to plan the upcoming corrals. Last year went over well and all of the tracks want us back and with 9 of the 10 events have both series involved, it makes it even better for all of us.

I should have the final schedule of events when I get back from Daytona, so stay tuned for more updates, etc.

Thankls Al. The list I posted is the Rolex 24 entry list off the Grand-Am web site as of today. I suppose that is pretty much the final list.

EDIT: Unfortunately, most of the car numbers on the 2009 list are not in use this year and a few of those car numbers listed are in use by another team. For example, last years Penske cars. So I guess the answer is to monitor 450.000-470.000 Thursday and Friday to see if I can link freqs with teams. Then again, I may leave my scanner stuff at home and just enjoy the festivities.:)

Maybe we should get together Friday evening and exchange notes to update the lists. I'll be hanging at the Grass Roots Motorsports hospitality area when not roaming the garage and track. The GRM area is in Lake Llyod Area West at the end of the hospitality/reserved parking areas. There will be a GRM banner hanging at the entrance I think. Look for the old guy with the black RX-8 hat with flames.:) I'll PM you my cell.

Here is yet another list of Grand-Am freqs. There is a good bit of duplication with the other lists, but more alternate freqs are listed. This list was obviously compiled based on 2009 events, so there are teams/cars that are not running this year and the accuracy is questionable.

Once a team is issued a FCC licence for a frequency(s), they don't typically change them. The only question is when they change car numbers or the new teams.

There will be an updated Frequency list at the Grand-Am trailer available to teams and fans. It will be at the back of this trailer:

http://gallery.me.com/meyermotorsports#100506/DSC_0101&bgcolor=black

Lots of good printed info there including lap time sheets (available about 15 minutes after each session ends). Ask for Lucie at the back of the trailer and she might give you some Rolex and Continental stickers if your polite. Don't ask for them early in the day---wait until the 24 race when things are not busy for her. A pocket size 2010 rule book is an awesome little reference guide too---great airplane reading. Ask for one of those.

Stay at the "MAYAN INN" on the Daytona beach. Easy to get to. Exit the track, turn right on Intl' Speedway drive and head to the ocean. When you get to the strip it's at your 11 o'clock about a block away. Cheap place and for an extra $10 a night your on the beach. About $60 a night plus tax. Here's the bonus: RIGHT next door is this killer little pub with great deep fried seafood "Ocean Deck". My record is 3 nights in a row there. Live music, cold draft beer, low prices and tons of race fans (and drivers and crew). Th and Fri night.

EDIT: FYI for anyone looking to buy Mazda corral tickets, they are sold out! It sounded like they may have been willing to deal on the ticket swap, but they really can't do much about a sold out event. Either way I'll try and swing by at some point during the race, hope you guys have a good time!

Also, some of my friends are asking if they can get in on the $55 deal without owning Mazdas. I know the answer is probably a resounding NO, but I figured I'd be a nice guy and ask anyway. :p:

Just park you car in the Mazda Corral, I think the issue is that all of the camping spaces are sold out. I have no issue with Mazda owners parking in the corral area, which is near the old dog track area.

Is the corral outside the gates? I know there is a dog track next door to the speedway, but I'm not sure if that's considered the old dog track. I assumed the corral was going to be in the yellow parking area on the west side of the infield.

Edit: I may as well cover all my questions in this post
-Can I bring a friend's car with me to park in the Mazda corral? If not, I'll probably just park elsewhere and visit.
-Provided there's room, can we regular ticket holders camp within the corral?
-If not, are we still allowed to camp in the regular infield parking areas? I realize you may not know this one since it's not related to the Mazda corral, but if anyone knows this answer I'd appreciate it. I don't see any mention of being able to just plunk down a tent next to your car wherever you end up parking like I've done in the past. It sounds like they're trying to force everyone to get these crazy expensive reserved camping tickets.

Alrighty, I'll give it a shot, thanks!

I also missed out on the ticket special. Are we welcome to join in on the activities?

Here's the Story

Dempsey Joins Freedom Autosport At Daytona

The two Mazda MX-5s that won races for Freedom Autosport during the 2009 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge circuit will return to the 2010 season opener, but the team's newest additions - MAZDASPEED3s - will attract Patrick Dempsey.

Dempsey, who will also compete in the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Saturday, will suit up to drive the No. 27 MAZDASPEED3 with Formula Atlantic Championship driver John Edwards. Also running a MAZDASPEED3 are Taylor Hacquard and Ryan Ellis in the No. 28.

Team manager Tom Long, who will pilot the No. 25 Mazda MX-5 at Daytona, is excited Dempsey will join the four-car team.

"He brings a lot of star power to the lineup," Long said.

Long expects his regular teammates - including Andrew Carbonell and team co-owners Rhett O'Doski and Derek Whitis - to be in the MAZDASPEED3s soon. At this juncture, he notes the team is looking forward to helping Mazda manufacturer title as well as take a team championship.

"The 2010 season will prove to be Freedom Autosport's strongest year ever in competing for the manufacturers championship within GRAND-AM competition," Long said. "Building on our 2009 successes, and moving forward with the all new Mazdaspeed3 is a fantastic opportunity Mazda has provided us. Debuting a Mazda filled driver lineup for Daytona like this will be sure to start the season off with plenty of Zoom-Zoom!

We are finalizing the schedule todqay and we are working on getting our membership access to the Drivers meeting and also a trip to Victory Lane! Once that is done, we'll post the schedule!!!!

I won't be driving my 8 there , but look for me, I will be the guy wearing the black hat with yellow Mazdaspeed on it. If I do drive my 8 there do I have to pay a special fee to park in the Mazda section on Saturday?

Alright, what I understand after some research is that we'll be parking our cars just outside of the Turn 1 tunnel behind the grandstands and the camping will be a roped off area just inside of the turn 1 tunnel (see the map in my previous post). If this is the case, I'm going to have way too much stuff with me to leave my car and my supplies in separate areas; I'll just park in my usual spot which is in those short parking rows near the exit to the first infield hairpin. I'll swing by the camping area and say hi to everyone, maybe even a couple times - you guys are welcome to drop by the firetruck and pay us a visit if you'd like as well. Hope everyone enjoys the race!

Also, are guests allowed to tag along for the tours? I'm going to have 4 people with me and I don't want to just ditch them.

Anyone know if anybody from the Speedsource team, other Mazda GT teams, or anybody just hanging out at the track is going to be on Twitter for the race? Would love to get some updates from the pits but wouldn't mind updates from the track whenever the TVs shut off for the night.

Probably get some quicker updates through Twitter if any problems crop up as well.

Excellent race! My feet hurt so bad that I've been shambling around like a zombie all day, but it was totally worth it. I'll try to post up my videos of the race later tonight or tomorrow.

Also, I was never able to find the Mazda corral - sorry I missed you guys! :(

I had a great time. Never did hook up with the Mazda Experience peps.
Corral was empty as far as I could tell.
I was hobbling after the first day too but got better.
The Conti tire race on Friday was in better weather.
The Riley RX-8 had the ST class covered most of the race until an incident.
The Camaros looked awesome on the track.

Go SpeedSource!

Thanks to all that came out, it was a great weekend for Mazda and our membership. I hope eveyone received something form the drawings, I know most of you received a 2010 Mazdaspeed Motorsports Calendar and the limited edition 2010 Rolex 24 Hours RX-8 GT Poster.

Those posters were just for the Rolex event, so you will not see them at any other events, so enjoy them. We'll more events planned for this year!!!

E-Roc as always it was a pleasure to share a brew and also break bread with you, Mickey and Mike. Let me know when you are leaving for VIR, maybe we can hook up on the road.

Also, thanks for Meyer swag, all of our members went nuts for it. I dare say, you have a bunch of new fans this year and next.

Thank you for your work in getting this together. It was nice meeting you.

It was a pleasure meeting you as well Al. We are currently working on Barber and Lime Rock, if you are interested in either, please let me know. Lime Rock is one of our larger events and with the DP cars being there, we expect a very large Mazda turnout.

Hope to see you soon!

We are not having a corral @ Homestead as there was not enough interest. I think they'll be an event @ Sebring, but again, there is not a whole lot of interest, since World Challenge is not running and Dyson is only runing a single car.

We will however be having events @ Barber, VIR, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and more.....

I was at Homestead last year too, but the turnout was less than expected. With a number of Mazda owners coming out to the 24 Hour race, from allover and as far away as Chicago, it is hard for a number of folks to head down to Miami for this event.

Grand-Am has a great deal, $20.00 and that gets you to the infield, a car show and a parade lap. I am not sure if it is still available, but give it a shot.

Wasn't Homestead the first event last year? People were slow to react to a good deal. You can't beat free. Oh well, their loss. I believe that $20 deal is good through the 19th. Still trying to figure out if I can make it out to one of the other events. Thanks for your hard work.
