Jedi54 11-16-2009, 06:37 PM yikes.
Easy_E1 11-16-2009, 06:40 PM Talk about being taken to the cleaners. "Does this job come with a reach around?"
moRotorMotor 11-16-2009, 06:58 PM Maybe I won't be getting a GT-R anytime soon.
staticlag 11-16-2009, 07:30 PM Who needs a pedestrian safety system? A bit of fiberglass and some fabbed hinges and your good to go...
rodjonathan 11-16-2009, 08:08 PM i know right i mean if your hitting a person i wonder how much a raised hood will actually help them ... also i know they probably put hours and hours of research into it but i mean seriously how NECESSARY is this feature?
WTBRotary! 11-16-2009, 08:18 PM I think the GT-R is packed with almost too much technology... I mean wtf is a raised hood going to do if your going fast? sigh...

The EU has a law which requires a certain clearance between hood and anything within (i.e. engine). The GT-R didn't have that, as far as I heard, and so they had to devise this walkaround. It's a challenge all car manufacturers must face, but some compromise the design/aero for it.
Seems like a good deal compared the price of a Shelby GT500KR hood...which does nothing fancy.
rodjonathan 11-16-2009, 08:30 PM makes sense but 18k! i dont think the gt500kr hood costs that much ...
SiLVeRE8 11-16-2009, 08:30 PM wow nissan cares that much about pedestrians...
ooh and lets just say if you accidentally bumper tap someone of some bumper taps you then you are screwed!
rodjonathan 11-16-2009, 08:38 PM yeah what if a grocery cart hits your car i guess it will pop then too? i mean 18k is alot for a SMALL amount of damage!
SiLVeRE8 11-16-2009, 08:44 PM I like the GTR very much but I dont think I can stand these kind of costly minor repairs if anything happens...
rodjonathan 11-16-2009, 09:00 PM ^ yup and dont forget the tranny issue that if you dont be careful will probably not be covered under warranty :( i mean whats the point of launch control if u cant use it? and i heard they fixed the problem but another friend of mine has a broken 2010 in his garage and 2 other ppl i know (one is my uncle) hav the same issue with the 09!
BlueEyes 11-16-2009, 09:55 PM makes sense but 18k! i dont think the gt500kr hood costs that much ...
Costs more. 21k. No joke. I read about it in a thread on some Ford forum after the guy hit a deer or some other animal. Shelby wouldn't sell it to the guy unless he shipped his old hood back either,
rodjonathan 11-16-2009, 10:12 PM WTF dam i never heard of that ... thats crazy id just get a dam cf replacement custom made for alot less than 21 k im pretty sure! lol
He should just be happy he wasn't in a head-on collision, with that amount of force the hood would have sliced right into the windshield and decapitated him.
9krpmrx8 11-16-2009, 11:46 PM Damn, that sucks. Don't forget the front of our cars are designed to crumple for pedestrians as well. That is why our hoods have the honey comb design.
WTBRotary! 11-17-2009, 12:03 AM He should just be happy he wasn't in a head-on collision, with that amount of force the hood would have sliced right into the windshield and decapitated him.
This is true, I wonder if Nissan tested this... this could be very dangerous:sadwavey:
MazdaManiac 11-17-2009, 12:05 AM Not a problem over here.
Lebren 11-17-2009, 12:06 AM A dedicated one time use ECU??? WHAT!
nate340 11-17-2009, 12:19 AM i think its really fucked up that they are all getting upset now the gtr rep is ruined and no one will ever buy one lol. yeah right look at our 8's people say the most fucked up inaccurate stuff about 8's yet people buy them everyday
BlueEyes 11-17-2009, 12:27 AM This is true, I wonder if Nissan tested this... this could be very dangerous:sadwavey:
of course they did. Hoods crumple. They don't fly backwards. Even still, the hood would deflect off the windscreen/a-pillars not slice through them.
shazy 11-17-2009, 01:50 AM Uh just to tell you, 11k pounds is like 22k $.
BUT WTF.
That's ridiculous.
rodjonathan 11-17-2009, 08:35 AM ^ dam sorry i just went off what i saw on the forum i read it ... but 22k is even more ridiculous!
CyberPitz 11-17-2009, 03:56 PM This thread makes my wallet cry like a little bitch.
911SC 11-17-2009, 04:37 PM I'll repeat myself.
maybe its so the hood dont get bent?
rodjonathan 11-19-2009, 08:14 AM ^ nah i bet the hood will still bend if the colission is serious enough ...
