Can anyone tell me the difference between a 2009 R3 and a 2010 R3?
I would like one in Black and only the 2009 Model is available in that color.

Are they Mechanically Identical?

Same car. the 10s don't have the "Mazda" badge on the trunk but that's about it.

The current rebate going on now is good, but 6k would be great. Where does your speculation come from? Why do you think they will raise it and when do you think it will happen. I am in the market for an RX-8.

Why wouldn't they raise it? I'd expect to see maybe a 7-8k rebate on the '09s come Jan or Feb. Face it, Mazda can't give these away right now. There is pretty much ZERO market for the 8 right now. It's not like they will magically capture some market or group of buyers who "overlooked" the 8 that last time they went car shopping. Most people who want an 8 already have one and those who bought new in '04-'05 that may be in the market for a new car likely won't shell out cash for another 8 without power upgrades, so they will probably move on to something else.

He who hesitates...
Hope the rebate doesn't end. When they were replacing the 08 miatas with the refreshed 09s. The rebates ended after several months.
Good luck. btw go with '09 the cash back is well worth it.

I just checked the Mazda website...within 150 miles of Columbus there are 30 2009 RX-8's for sale. I'd be shocked if the incentive goes down or goes away on 11/2. Mazda is going to have a hard time selling these remaining cars. The $5,000 incentive has barely made a dent on the inventory in Ohio.

I would have waited for november to see what the new rebate was, but I wanted a blue one, and didn't want to risk having them being sold out from under me in Cali (only 3 at the time I purchased). It worked b/c it was a good deal for me, which should be the principle in which people purchase things...

buy when it's a good deal for YOU, not when it's cheap for what it is.

I currently have an 04 GT with 104k miles... runs fine but since the warranty is long gone and I have had it 4 years, I will be in the market for another one end of this year. I would like to find an 09 Black GT with the red interior. I love the RX8 and would by a newer one for sure...:yesnod:

difference between 2009 & 2010? the $5k rebate currently available on the 09...

When I bought my MS3 in April, the RX8 rebate was $5K - but I don't remember if it was on 08's or on all RX8's. If it was on the "leftovers", with changes for 09, I can't see the rebate going higher. I'm buying my 09 now with a $5K rebate in October because I don't want to risk losing a good deal on the car I want (in the color I want) over the rebate. I really doubt they'll increase the dollar value, but they very well might extend the current rebate beyond 11/2 when it expires. Regardless, on Saturday I'll own my first rotary motored car for $25K. The R3 model won out in my mind for it's sportiness - though I'd rather have the GT model's "convenience" options.

I just got an R3 in Sept. I did'nt think the rebate would increase but it did three days later. to 5 K.. well at least I got the car I wanted at a fair price and all is good. Hyedracyl, what color are you going for? Make sure the dealer did'nt leave it sitting on low tires for too long. I had an issue with flat spots when I first took ownership. Good luck.

hyedacyl - I am the same way.

i prefered driving the R3 to the GT, and that hasn't worn off yet, but once it does, I'm sure there will be a small part of me that will miss the sunroof and the heated seats. The nav though? wasn't so impressive.

The sunroof is behind your head anyway, so it only serves to increase airflow through the car. It's not like you can see the sky or anything. The racing seats are pretty restrictive, and while that's great out on the track, it doesn't do much for long distance comfort...

I had to remove my wallet when I was on the test drive! Also, those side bolsters make entry and exit more difficult for those of us without overly long inseems (mine's only 32). It's not as bad as it is in my SRT4s (from an entry/exit POV), but not as comfortable daily as the power leather seats would be. If I could trade with another new GT, I probably would - and I'm a PCA driving instructor no less...

Well, if it makes you guys feel any better, it's likely that the resale of the R3 will be higher in the long run.

I feel great. heated seats are for my wife, the r3 is my car. sunroof adds weight. Nav systems are cheap.
