View Full Version : Anyone use one of these to change their oil? flatso 01-12-2004, 03:16 PM http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/mit7200.html Mityvac brothervoodoo 01-12-2004, 03:20 PM I wonder if that will suck out the remaining HALF of the oil that does not get replaced in a normal oil change? epitrochoid 01-12-2004, 03:21 PM on a piston motor anyway, you cant. the tube needs to get to the lowest point of the oil pool, which is of course in the pan. that is unaccessable from the oil filler cap. unless the renisis has a straight shot from the filler cap to the pan, you cant. youre better off draining the oil anyway, as it allows the crap and garbage to drain out as well. Sea Ray 01-12-2004, 03:36 PM These actually have a hose you stick down the dip stick tube into the pan, but you will still not get all of it. I use a similar, but 12 volt, type pump on my boat where you can not get under the motors. I guess since we are leaving several quarts in there anyways, whats another 1/2 quart? I will still drain mine, but this pump would come in handy in the event you happen to over fill it. PUR NRG 01-12-2004, 04:19 PM I posted about a similar device several months ago. Bottom line: it completely drains oil from some cars (e.g. BMW 540i) and almost completely on others (e.g. Honda S2000). On the RX-8 it will drain 4 quarts, which is what you get through the drain plug. I also did a study regarding accumulated sludge and found there is no appreciable sludge buildup going through the dipstick. ________ 321 (http://www.bmw-tech.org/wiki/BMW_321) flatso 01-12-2004, 05:17 PM Originally posted by PUR NRG I posted about a similar device several months ago. Can you qive a link to that post I would like to read it. PUR NRG 01-12-2004, 06:25 PM Yes it's just as good as using the plug. Have you tried doing a forum search based on my user name? ________ FUTURAMA FORUM (http://www.tv-gossip.com/futurama/) epitrochoid 01-13-2004, 11:22 AM guess mine didn't come with the small tube. :P all i have is a huge fat hose i use to siphon the water out of the drain pain when my airconditor in my attic freezes :P i3man 01-13-2004, 03:09 PM Originally posted by brothervoodoo I wonder if that will suck out the remaining HALF of the oil that does not get replaced in a normal oil change? Has anyone figured out how to get the other half of the oil out? It's kind of like giving yourself half a bath everyday. syntrix 01-14-2004, 02:31 PM Originally posted by i3man Has anyone figured out how to get the other half of the oil out? It's kind of like giving yourself half a bath everyday. Or bathing with yesterday's bath water?? I'd still crack the oil pan bolt unless I epoxied and drilled in a rare earth magnet around the plug to pick up any metal shavings. neit_jnf 01-14-2004, 02:52 PM I used to put an old speaker magnet on top of the oil filter in my old rotary. What's yur opinion on doing this to newer cars? |
