Why would you want to drive around with a pull me over flag such as that. Unless you have a good short term reason your going to have issues. For example driving to a shop to get a new hood would be valid.

The hood of the RX-8 is considered a safety device, " Shock Cone Hood (http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_55485/title_Mazda-RX8-Aluminium-Bonnet-Improves-Pedestrian-Protection/newsarticle.html)" to be exact. If you were to hit a pedestrian without a hood your insurance would be void for removing a safety device and the other sides lawyers would have a field day with you.

yup... to safe ur arms from that strut bar. though changing out to a CF unit is popular among modders, though not much is shaved off, and in some cases none.

i noticed that design immediately during my hood gutting process. hmmm...it must be for safety...

The original reason old hot rodders would run without a hood on their car was they had stuffed a big engine in the car or added a blower. Because of this they couldn't shut it.

CF hood) that you would be in trouble for the same reason?

Why dont you just add some spacers in the back and lift it up a tad bit.. if you want to get rid of some heat lololololol i was thinking of trying that.

A one day thing shouldn't be an issue. I would bring a copy of the invoice with me in case you run into a bored cop.

Yikes! Does this mean it's illegal to run without any front sheet metal?

Back in the '60s I had the task of fixing my brother's VW after he T-boned a car that ran a red light across his bow. I had front sheet metal from a donor car, but didn't have the gear to straighten the unit body. But I knew a guy with a low end body shop, with pullers and sledgehammers.

I drove the VW over with no front sheet metal and no gas tank (that got punctured in the wreck), just a coffee can with a tube soldered into the bottom.

It was fun driving down Hillside Avenue (Queens) like that. Every kid that I passed cheered and waved. Didn't encounter any police, but I would not have expected trouble if I did.

I dont care if im running a hood or not, if i hit a person the last thing im worrying about is the strut bar hitting their head.

It could have been awesomer. I figured the coffee can might not hold enough gas to get me all the way, so I brought along a gallon in a gas can. When I ran out, I coasted to the side and filled up.

But that was right in front of a gas station. I have been kicking myself for not coasting into the station instead, and saying "fill it up." This was in the days before self-service.
