When these arrive, they will look like this:

I have a friend that runs a body shop, and I asked him to do the install. The first thing that was done was to park the car in a heated garage, (70*F). If doing this install at room temperature, you won't need the hair dryer as the instructions sent from Mazda indicated. After about four hours, Rick cleaned each pillar, as shown here, with a quality window cleaner:

"Test fit" the accent on the B-pillar, then peel about 1/2-an-inch from the top, as shown here:

Starting at the top, place accent on B-pillar, it fits exactly to the existing pillar, with a slight "notch" at the top. DO NOT PEEL REMAINDER OF BACKING AT THIS TIME. If using a hair dryer, warm up the accent slightly, just enough to make it a little pliable. (This is what we could figure out from the instructions);

Slowly peel the backing, rolling the accent into place... Note: the open door, this will make the application go a little easier.

During the application, be sure to press the accent to the metal... Notice the backing...

Final step: Press the accent onto pillar, going back over it with a microfiber towel, rubbing from the top down to remove any air bubbles. Here is the finished product for the drivers side:
(It really does look better in person, just ask Omicron!) :D

And the passenger side:
Total time spent, (After the four hour warm up time): 20 minutes.

Funny story about these things... when I took my baby in for the recall work, they had thier detail guy wash it. When I went to get my car from him, he asked if it was a "special edition RX-8" because of the pillar accents! I just smiled and said, "Welp, I didn't buy it from this dealership...":D

I was thinking about getting these B-piller thingys because I didn't like the flat black look between the windows. I wanted the two windows and hte pillar to look like on big window. Does this mod accomplish that? Is it as shiny or close to as shiny as the windows?

I ordered these in January -- still waiting for them -- and I saw a thread with pictures that really did these things justice. You can definitely see that they are glossy and really blend in well between the windows. Can't wait to get mine!

Here's the post:

Thats exactly why I put em on my car. They are piano black. Shiny like the radio face plate. and it does link up the two pieces of glass at distance. There are a couple diff kinds. Mine has the RX-8 at the bottom versus the rotary symbol. Also, Mazdaspeed appliques have a carbon fiber look. Nice look for cheap money.
