View Full Version : have an issue with seat, does anybody else?
ProToolsKid 01-10-2004, 03:47 PM OK, this happened shortly after I bought my RX. If I sit down wrong in the seat I bump my tailbone on a bar or frame at the back of the bottom cushion. Also if I sit back too quickly I hit it as well.. I D/K if any of you have the same issue or if you have even cared to notice but it's starting to annoy me. Easiest way to feel it is if you sit down and with your legs push back with you butt on the seat and you should feel the bar either hit your tailbone or just a little higher. I mean this isn't extremely painful just a little uncomfortable.
I've already taken it in for this and they finally tried to fix it by sending it to a shop to see if they could pad it more or adjust it, But it didn't work still there. The dealership finally told me that they couldn't do anything more about it so they told me I can call Mazda US Corp and address this issue to them. So I did and I was hoping if anybody had the same issue or other issues, like Creaking Seat, Squealing Brakes, Etc. you could take a few moments to call them to log it. They will need your VIN and Name.

8_wannabe 01-10-2004, 04:05 PM It's not your lumbar support? Can it be adjusted to reduce this? Do you have cloth or leather? I have leather and never noticed anything of this sort.
murix 01-10-2004, 04:29 PM Actually, I do have the same problem, but I only noticed it on a long trip and, as you say, it is not uncomfortable, just annoying. There is a small bar or something running along the bottom. I found I can readjust the bottom cushion and my driving postition to avoid it and I am fine. It is not a problem for me on a daily basis.

No I've tried adjusting the seat and I don't have leather power seats. It's on the back of the bottom cushion.
Murix,
It's probably coz I'm shaped differently but I notice it whenever I sit up I don't like not having my entire body against the seat and I have to kinda slide foreward to keep my tail bone off of it but the gap makes my lower back ache after a while and I have to readjust. If you have the time call mazda and let them know about this please so they will actually look into it and make a fix.
murix 01-10-2004, 05:59 PM Will do. I can feel how it would be uncomfortable.
i3man 01-11-2004, 02:58 AM Everyone's anatomy is different so many of us probably would never notice it. I had a girlfriend in college that had a very pronounced tail bone...don't ask me how I know.
sea-rx8 01-11-2004, 04:40 PM I'm 6'3" and have the same issue of the bar on the bottom of the back.
I have played around with the seat.....and if I were a short person I could probably adjsut it so I would not sit against the bar
But I have to put the seat all the way back and down to the floor......and that seems to expose the bar.
ProToolsKid 01-11-2004, 04:56 PM Yeah I'm 6'2" and I have to have the seat all the way back and down as well. Give Mazda a call so we can get new seats :) or at least a fix.

ProToolsKid 01-11-2004, 05:58 PM While sitting in the seat try pushing you butt back into the back of the seat and you will feel what I am talking about.

AF-RX8 01-11-2004, 08:49 PM Is this only an issue when the seat is all the way in the down position ?
Also is it limited to cloth seats only ?
I drove a RX8 for 3 days and didn't notice any bar but I sit with the seat kind of in the middle as far as height is concerned but I had the seat pretty fair back . . . FYI the seats were power and leather.
i3man 01-12-2004, 01:39 AM Maybe you guys need to sit on a lifesaver :p Ask any woman who has experienced natural child birth and she'll tell you what that is if you don't know.

From what I am understanding, you are hitting this bar because you sit your butt on the very back of the seat right ?
In other words is your back and butt make the letter L shape and your backside is right up against the very back of the seat ? ?
I don't think I noticed it because I sit in a relaxing position and my backside isn't up against the back of the bottom cushion . . . I sit kind of slouched I guess and it's a couple of inches away from the very back of the bottom cushion.
Am I understanding this correctly and have you tried changing your seating postion by tilting the bottom cushion and tiliting the seat back ?

Yeah I like to sit back in the seat I don't like to slouch because it will make my lower back muscles ache. I have tried different sitting postures and they all feel uncomfortable. Like I said It's doesn't hurt like jamming your finger or anything just uncomfortable. I've never sat in any other seat that forced me to change my posture so I don't think I should deal with mazdas design flaw. All I'm asking is if you find the seat uncomfortable due to this Bar to please call Mazda and let them know so they will see that it's a bigger problem than they realized and do something about it.
racerdave 01-12-2004, 11:24 PM Have you contacted Mazda consumer relations about it?
It may get you nowhere, but it might be worth a shot.
My friend at a Ford dealer says that customers of Fords can request from their customer relations dept to have their seats adjusted by the dealer... which consists of the dealer taking it to an upholstery shop and having them add/remove padding in certain areas. Apparently it's not all that uncommon.
Just wondering...
ProToolsKid 01-13-2004, 08:37 PM Yeah I have taken it to the dealer and they removed the seat and sent it to an upholstery shop and the shop did what they could but it's still there.
