Hi everyone,

Hope all the experience bros can advice;
I've just purchased a pre-fl 6mt ('06) which came with aftermarket exhaust and air intake, Which of the following would be a better mod (best bang for bucks)?(unfortunatley i can only choose 1 of the folowing due to budget constraints)
1)final drive
2)flywheel & clutch
3)Accessport

Thanks in advance :). To be honest im leaning towards the final drive...

We at BHR tend to suggest a few things as the first upgrades to ANY RX-8 owner and for specific reasons. 1) AccessPort, especially if further modding is in your future, because as you continue to mod your car you will have the ability to re-flash your tunes along the way. 2) BHR Ignition System because it offers better spark, zero misfires, and will do so for a lot longer than the OEM coils. 3) Catless, or performance catted, midpipe as this opens up tuning potential.

After these, other things to consider may be a lightweight flywheel and/or lightweight clutch kit, that final drive you mentioned, and if power-adders are interesting to you we have nitrous, turbo, and supercharger options as well.

If you are going to track your car there are some other simple mods that will improve things a bit, too.

Out of your list I would say AP. Buy it from Mazdamaniac dot com and you will get 6months of tuning with the purchase (well worth it, since a dyno shop would charge extra for the tuning and your 8 still might not be done).

Like Ray said above another good one for better MPG/ Smoother idle and acceleration is the BHR ignition.

Accessport! :) Out of $4500+ in mods, I now realized my first mod should have been an Accessport (which I still dont have) +1 on what CHARLES said. :yesnod:

Thanks guys.. I ought to be flamed for asking this... but how mush faster would my 0-100km improve by if i just install the accessport as a stand alone.

Only reason im askin is becoz as much as i understand that accessport would allow it to be reflashed a few times with respect to future mods/upgrades, due to budget constrants i may only be able to make do with a 1 and only mod ( thats y i know im long-winded and dun wana make a wrong choice :)) Bear with me guys. cheers!

My suggestion is get the Accesport, but be aware each time you upgrade something to the engine, you have to rescan it and get it calibrated otherwise the AP will be running as if you never installed anything

Not exactly true. Not all mods require re-tuning.

Thanks for the replies.. but if i change my to a catless midpipe, im pretty sure it will leave stains on my rear bumper. ( i have seen it on a couple of friends cars). So instead of changing to a catless midpipe, if i opt for a high flow/sports cat (although performance wise its not as optimal as going catless) will i still get the stains on my rear bumper?

does the accesport allow you to tune the car yourself. I could street tune it by looking at the wideband and create my own maps right?

i heard that when you get race seats you need to reflash your accessport. is this true?

FIRST thing I would do is remove the shields in the stock air box and use a drop in K&N filter. Noticeable difference, for sure. Then go with the Cobb. I JUST got done installing the custom tune from MM and it made a big difference. Well worth the money.

With the RaceTuner software available from Cobb you would be able to. However, if you think that "tuning" your RX-8 is as simple as setting the A/Fs and ignition timing you are missing 99% of the story. Before one attempts this sort of thing, one may want to do a LOT of research on OBDII systems and "adaptive PCM" technology.
