View Full Version : Polished Intake manifold!!
9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:15 PM Alright guys im looking for a polished intake manifold, i no u can do it i just cant find them if they even sell them, or if they have to be custom made, all i no is they add power haha so i gotta figure how to get my hands on one, anyone got any ideas??
chickenwafer 08-31-2009, 08:16 PM How are you going to polish a plastic intake manifold? Unless you just want to make it shinny plastic :dunno:
And intake manifolds don't add power to our cars without significant other modification.
9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:29 PM well im lookingfor a whole new intake manifold to replace the plastic one....
Flashwing 08-31-2009, 08:35 PM I think that the OP is referring to the notion of a "port and polish" regarding the intake.
9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:40 PM i have no idea haha ive seen a few rx8's with metal intake manifolds instead of plastic, soo i was to stupid to ask them where they got it or if i was custom, but they also said it increased there horse power alot cause plastic is so restrictive, which well it is
05rex8 08-31-2009, 08:42 PM are you talking about the upper intake manifold behind the oil filler neck, or a cold air intake to replace the stock air box
if it's upper intake manifold, there isn't any
if it's cold air intake, try the search function...
mysql101 08-31-2009, 08:44 PM i just dump a bag of sand into the intake, it polishes itself!
9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:45 PM the upper intake manifold not the cai i already have a cai, so apparently im going to have to get one custom made then.... fucking gay
Spinning Sushi 08-31-2009, 08:45 PM ^ Make sure it's a 10lb bag of sand.
05rex8 08-31-2009, 08:47 PM the upper intake manifold not the cai i already have a cai, so apparently im going to have to get one custom made then.... fucking gay
the stock UIM flows plenty, don't bother
Spinning Sushi 08-31-2009, 08:48 PM If you make the UIM bigger then you'll need to make everything else bigger.
Anyways, who's interested in a port and polished throttle body for the 8?

9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:52 PM i was i wanna do enough to the engine so when i turbo it, it will run better and so i can run more boost without risk of killing the engine, i have intake exhaust and straight pipe, i still have to do headers, and pullies, what else could i do? to get more power before the turbo?
Spinning Sushi 08-31-2009, 08:53 PM when i turbo it, it will run better and so i can run more boost without risk of killing the engine
Uh huh.... how is making the UIM bigger going to help?
9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:55 PM hell if i no lol, i just wanna get as much power outta the car as i can before i boost it...
Flashwing 08-31-2009, 08:55 PM the upper intake manifold not the cai i already have a cai, so apparently im going to have to get one custom made then.... fucking gay
People make claims all the time that a certain part increases WHP without any proof or hard data to back up their claims. Changing the shape of the runner will change how the power is delivered but those intake manifolds are capable of moving enough air to produce over 400whp. So, claiming there is any kind of restriction is simply false.
You'll be spending a lot of money and getting nothing in return or possibly even losing power as a result. the UIM is rather well made and is more than capable on an N/A car.
9kfun 08-31-2009, 08:58 PM alright then here's another question, what else can i do to increase power after, headers cai pullies straight pipe and exhaust
Spinning Sushi 08-31-2009, 08:59 PM You can make more power by clicking on the SEARCH button.
Z0oMzo0m 08-31-2009, 09:03 PM i was i wanna do enough to the engine so when i turbo it, it will run better and so i can run more boost without risk of killing the engine, i have intake exhaust and straight pipe, i still have to do headers, and pullies, what else could i do? to get more power before the turbo?
I dont now much on what your trying to do, But there is a helpful search button on top that will answer your turbo questions. Sounds to me like you would be blowing away alot of coins before you go turbo...
As for the pastic intake manifold, it holds up great... seeing you have 6 post, you havent really searched a whole lot..
Goodluck!
Z0oMzo0m 08-31-2009, 09:06 PM And why would you go by all this exhuast (header) if yor planning on going turbo, THERE would be a BIG waste of money... Just get a turbo kit and save yourself the trouble and save alot of money in the long run....

This is what I was going to post... I think this guy should get them so I can buy them used when he goes turbo.
Doesn't Pettit make a UIM similar to their SC one for an NA/turbo car?
Flashwing 08-31-2009, 09:22 PM hell if i no lol, i just wanna get as much power outta the car as i can before i boost it...

There is a metric crapton of posts about these very topics and many of then are sticky threads. I'd suggest doing a lot of reading about both turbo applications and other types of upgrades so you don't waste a lot of money and get something you don't want.
Rotr8 08-31-2009, 09:31 PM Denny, Oldragger has a polished LIM,,,
olddragger 08-31-2009, 09:43 PM yep i polished the lim and did a few mods to it--but it is not for a na car. looks good though!
OD
chickenwafer 08-31-2009, 09:51 PM I want to polish my LIM, but I don't feel like pulling the motor just to do it
shazy 08-31-2009, 10:00 PM i just dump a bag of sand into the intake, it polishes itself!
Hahahaa I remember the Audi thread. It was EPIC!
Get a BHR ignition kit and a Cobb Accessport from Mazdamaniac. It will help you out a lot.
There. I spoon fed teh n00b.
Z0oMzo0m 08-31-2009, 10:18 PM wait what are we thinking,
1st you have to buy the CAI, pullies, FULL exhuast system, HOOD scoop to keep engine cool, a heavier flywheel, keep the stock clutch though... Umm whatt else am i missing..
These items are a must buy before you go turbo. If you SEARCH you will see what i am talking about...
TeamRX8 08-31-2009, 10:32 PM This thread delivers ...
Brettus 08-31-2009, 10:41 PM I would like to see an intake manifold like the 13b rew has that can be polished . It would only be for show but our engine bays need something like that to look any good
WingleBeast 08-31-2009, 11:34 PM OP
you sure dont know alot for sure knowing alot.
your my new favorite poster.
You need to go to the nearest gas station and get some NOS, just ask the teller, they are in the cooler. Pour a bottle in the gas, a bottle in the oil, and half a bottle in the windshiled waser fluid. Insta 500HP.

I agree that having a nice show piece would be pretty cool! There are plenlty of people out there that like to have unique and eye catching items under the hood. I'm no exception to that rule.

racerboy59 09-01-2009, 06:21 PM Caliper decals give you 3 whp per corner.

Ha ha that's not true Flash. :spank:
Just check with Easy1. He even posted pictures.
The plastic UIM is very restrictive. AKA overboost nitrous :banghead:
Ccarroll1414 10-26-2010, 01:10 PM I hope that guy talking about the AWD kit is kidding? Haha
didnt bhr make one

hey this is a old thread what the hell
TeamRX8 10-26-2010, 01:29 PM fucking gay
Not my thing, but whatever floats your boat. :dunno: Just do it in private, ok?
Ps: why am I not surprised that in addition to this thread you would post something so fucking stupid
rotarygod 10-26-2010, 02:25 PM Yes it's an old thread but in the interest of continuing the topic...
The plastic intake manifold gives you more power than aluminum because it doesn't absorb as much heat which means the air in the manifold stays denser. What you need to do is to find a new plastic exhaust to replace the steel one as it too will allow less heat to get absorbed by the manifold which will mean that more heat energy is retained in the exhaust pipes to help scavenging and in turn will increase power.
