In your opinion what would be the best suspension set up for auto crossing?? JantzenRX-8 08-26-2009, 11:30 AM I'd post a price range. "best" is bad word for your wallet. chino0314 08-26-2009, 11:35 AM Lol it probably is but I'm willing to take the hit, I'm not saying I'm going to purchase it right now but if the price is right I still have money from my past deployment JantzenRX-8 08-26-2009, 11:48 AM Lol it probably is but I'm willing to take the hit, I'm not saying I'm going to purchase it right now but if the price is right I still have money from my past deployment Well you can get some custom monotube coilovers for like $5000 but I'm just going to assume you don't want those because I'm guessing you don't need them. If I were to throw out a good popular combo i'd say Stance coilovers with Progress swaybars and some sort of adjustble endlinks. I have the Progress bars with the EVO-R endlinks and I'm very happy with them. That'll probably cost you around $1700. Oh... And you want some wide but light wheels and tires... Yes you do. chino0314 08-26-2009, 11:53 AM Ok sounds good, don't need the custum one for sure, but the stance coilovers sound good any idea how they compare to hks or Megan coilovers though? ? JantzenRX-8 08-26-2009, 12:16 PM Lightyears better than Megan and even though I don't know much about the HKS I'd put more faith in the Stance. quazmosis 08-26-2009, 12:21 PM Well you can get some custom monotube coilovers for like $5000 but I'm just going to assume you don't want those because I'm guessing you don't need them. Agreed on the lighter wheels and tires. I just went with the Enkeis 18x8.5s. Lighter all around and just a hair more wider. chino0314 08-26-2009, 12:28 PM Ok thank yu very much just doing the proper research before i go out and start spending the money on parts quazmosis 08-26-2009, 12:31 PM If you keep your eyes open in the for sale section you may be able to find wheels, suspension parts etc from other forum members. That's what I did. More and more people are parting out these days. TopGear8 08-26-2009, 12:31 PM Yeah i've had Megan on my car and now have Stance GR+. The Megans don't really help the balance of the car at all. When I switched to Stance it felt amazing. chino0314 08-26-2009, 12:36 PM So basically by your experience stance would be the best as far as coilovers go?? In your opinion what would be the best suspension set up for auto crossing?? What class and level of prep are you planning on? chino0314 08-26-2009, 12:59 PM Well I'm just looking for something that'll give me the best handling results, haven't thought or done research about class or prep level but would appreciate it if yu educate me on that? TopGear8 08-26-2009, 01:02 PM Lets take a step back...Have you actually AutoCrossed before? Do you know what it feels like to be pushing your car to its limits. If you do not, then you don't need coilovers. Bettering your suspension before you better yourself as a driver will not help you in the long run. Learn the dynamics of the car and then you'll be able to figure what works for you, what kind of spring rates you want..etc.. Figure out the class first, budget second, mod from there: http://scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=61 Or if you don't actually plan to race it just buy the ebay jdm crap everyone else recommends. :ugh2: wireaddict 08-26-2009, 01:14 PM I have to agree... You need to get the car on the track before buying anything. If you have never crossed before, you'll find these cars are very fast as is. Upgrade parts as you improve beyond their capacity. chino0314 08-26-2009, 01:14 PM Lets take a step back...Have you actually AutoCrossed before? I have not tracked my car before because I dnt know if my stock suspension can handled it, I'm just gathering information for when I do begin the build for the track. RawrX8 08-26-2009, 01:23 PM I have not tracked my car before because I dnt know if my stock suspension can handled it, I'm just gathering information for when I do begin the build for the track. You be amazed what you can do with your stock suspension. quazmosis 08-26-2009, 02:32 PM I have been running on stock suspension, and I haven't mastered it yet. You'll be fine with stock till you learn. JantzenRX-8 08-26-2009, 02:55 PM +1 on not modding until you know what you're doing. Your stock set up is fine. You'll get more satifaction out of your mods if you run stock for a while too. Personally, I couldn't give a shit less which class I'm in so my suggestions are just for improving the driving experience and reducing your times without sticking to any rules or breaking the bank. Some people here take autocross very seriously, some people do it as a past time. So figure out what your intention is and then listen to the appropriate audience. TopGear8 08-26-2009, 02:59 PM I have not tracked my car before because I dnt know if my stock suspension can handled it, I'm just gathering information for when I do begin the build for the track. The question is not if your stock suspension can handle the track. The question is can you handle the stock suspension? If you have never autocrossed or been to the track, the answer is no. You need to stop being so concerned with how to make your car faster and more "trackable" and work on becomming a better driver. Seat time, Seat time, Seat time. dmitrik4 09-01-2009, 10:30 AM and as many serious autocrossers can attest, the coilover/wide wheels/hi-po street tires isn't actually faster on the autoX course than a basically stock suspension and race tires. get some experience under your belt, decide how serious you want to be, pick a class, and then start buying parts. |
