So the RX-8 I picked up was always serviced at the dealer so I'm pretty sure that it's always been running some brand of 5w20 non-synthetic.

Now that it's in my hands, I'm trying to decide what to carry along in the trunk for the occasional top offs.

After endless reading and technical blabber, it's down to Castrol GTX 5w30 for the non-synthetic choice and Amsoil 5w30 for the synthetic choice. Tell me which to use!

Why I picked these 2 oils? Cause it's the majority non-synth oil you guys all use and Amsoil is one of those group IV high quality oils plus I can get deals on Amsoil. I picked 5w30 cause I'm in Canada and would react better in the cold weather we get in Winter.

And for the premixing question, so basically all it is pouring some oil into the gas tank at the time of gassing up. I just don't get the simple math stuff like the ratios, like if I fill up the whole tank, or only $20 worth, or whatever, how much am I supposed to put?

My premix choice will most likely be Amsoil Sabre Pro due to the fact that Imeditsu is almost impossible to find easily.

Thanks a lot!

(Please don't shoot me, I searched for 3 days, I swear!)

After reading all those threads what is YOUR conclusion about Pre-mix and what oil to use? Anything we tell you will be based on those very same threads so you should have an answer already.

another suggestion... We see your fairly new to the forums, If you have any questions about threads allready open, you should post in them and not make a new one. This way when a new member searches they dont have to read through 100 different threads, it will be all in one :)

If your not sure just stick with whats best, it says to use 5w20, so use that..

Well my premixing conclusion is that it's good for the engine, so I plan on doing it, but I don't understand HOW to do it other than the fact that 2 stroke oil goes into the gas tank. But do I pour pure oil in? How much? Do I mix it with something else then pour it down? That's what I can't find easily through the search...

For the oil it's either non-synth or synth, make your pick it can go either way.

I'm gunna say stick with dino (5w30) oil if your car has always run that and has done more than about 30000km . There is some evidence to suggest that switching over to synthetic after running dino for some time will cause oil leaks .
Premix : sabre pro is a good choice
how much to use : with a functioning OMP 250:1 should be plenty so if you add 50 litres divide 50000 by 250 and you get 200ml .
How to add it : dump it in the tank then pump the gas

That should have given you a clue that there's no one right answer. ;)

The closest thing to a right answer is the oil page from the Australian owner's manual, that gives various choices depending on ambient temerature. Search for that. Then use whatever oil fits your personal beliefs, as long as it agrees with something on the chart.

As for your two finalists...Castrol GTX, no question. Even my Mazda dealer uses GTX 5w30.
