View Full Version : Autobahn Body Kit
Autobahn 8 08-13-2009, 04:54 AM :mdrmed: Finally got the whole car repainted again. Didn't really change anything (same color: VR), just got all the dings, scrapes, and dents out....too many scooters, underground garages, parallel parking, and small parking spaces in Taiwan....also had the interior detailed. This is the 2nd time hope this time it'll last much longer!:o: --SORRY CAMERA PHONE--
Other than a drop or rims, are there anything else anyone can suggest for the appearance...any ideas?:suspect:
Spinning Sushi 08-13-2009, 05:00 AM I had the Autobahn kit as well. :)
Autobahn 8 08-13-2009, 05:28 AM Renesis SE3P
The front is so low... do you scrape all the time once u lowered ur car? I wish I could drop it, but those underground garages are murder on the front bumper. I've had the front re-fiberglassed 3 times already! How you get around this?
nikkdizzle 08-13-2009, 05:28 AM very nice! i like the autobahn front but not the rear! looks very nice forsure!
Autobahn 8 08-13-2009, 05:44 AM Tks nikkdizzle. For the rear...didn't like their full bumper ones, so I just got the exhaust sides...don't know what they are called... "shrouds" maybe. But if had to pick the perfect rear kit I'd get the Kenstyle one to complete the Ferrari look...sort of. I've seen some here with that set up already....looks sick! But then would have to switch to dual tip outs for a better fit....so naaaaa. Maybe Carbon fiber Hood or rims would probably be more money well spent.

I scrapped everywhere, re-fiberglassed only once for me, I did it at home and had a shop painted it.
Spinning Sushi 08-13-2009, 05:47 AM http://www.rx8club.com/vbgarage.php?do=getimage&type=im&id=3913
It was pretty low.
Autobahn 8 08-13-2009, 05:54 AM Guess no cure....yup urs looks low...maybe get stuck even over a pebble :mdrmed:
Spinning Sushi 08-13-2009, 09:50 AM Yeah, this picture shows you how low my car was and where it was scraping at.

Autobahn 8 08-13-2009, 10:52 PM Do you think it's possible to mount splitters to the Autobahn front? Has anyone done it? Would like to seep pics of it. That way I could lower the car and not worry about scrapes to the front bumper.
NgoRX8 08-13-2009, 11:01 PM been done. d'mix and IzoomzoomI. I even had some for a little while.
it makes the front lower and further out, so you scrape a lot more.
and because you'll scrape a lot more, you have less room for error before you snap the bottom of the bumper instead.
cobaum 08-13-2009, 11:22 PM Second poster here. Gotta say "You suck."
I thought my 8 as cool but yours makes mine look naked. Love it. I want to see your pick of rims when it happens.
Autobahn 8 08-13-2009, 11:37 PM NgoRX8.....I C tks.
Not a good thing......guess I'll just stick to saving up for some 19" rims and getting 35 tires. Would like some 20" ....since too many pot holes and speed traps in Taiwan so I'd just stick to "show" rather then "go". But without lowering the car the 20"s make my car look like a truck. ...19" probably the way to go.
looks good my thats my fav front end.

thats what im talking about.....
kit looks great man, you definitely might want to try some splitters on the autobahn front, I fabbed up some pretty thin ones out of black polycarbonate and its saved me a lot of scrapes and cracks. Ill get some pics to show you what i mean sometime.
Your 8 looks lowered Renesis, how much were you dropped with the autobahn front???...i really want to close the wheel gap a little, i just dont think i can get anymore than .75 out of it
Autobahn 8 08-14-2009, 06:22 AM shakeyourbrakes.....yup urs is the perfect setup. You even got the same eyelids I have. I didn't know who they were from since I had my friend hand carry a pair back for me from Japan. I'm cosidering your splitter idea. Maybe I can fab up something like it. How do you mount them? Drill holes, clip mounts,or double sided tape?
gh8st 08-15-2009, 05:12 PM damn you own an rx8 in taiwan? baller... haha i went to high school in Taipei (TAS) and i know what the roads are like there bro.. but your car looks damn sexy. nice work!

I think it was a 1.8'' in front and I believe 1.4'' in the back.

.022 lexan painted black, cut with a jigsaw to the shape I wanted, then I beveled the edges round. I mounted them with three bolts on each side right to the flat part under each side of the bumper and layered under with some rubber protector.

Ross_Dawg 08-16-2009, 07:40 PM ^That looks clean, nice work :icon_tup:
alex12345rx8 08-16-2009, 08:21 PM Who makes those eyelids and where can I get them? They look great beautiful car.
dondo 08-16-2009, 08:35 PM lookin good man. i agree that the kenstyle rear goes well with the kit
shakeyourbrakes 08-16-2009, 09:34 PM Who makes those eyelids and where can I get them? They look great beautiful car.
thanks... theyre kei-office eyelids, as far as where to get them, good luck.... Everyone once and awhile they might pop up on ebay but kei office is a japanese buisness that vanished a few years ago. You can get some decent replicas from evo-r on the forum or his website.
Autobahn 8 they def look good on your red..
DroptRX8 08-16-2009, 10:19 PM what kind of wing do u have?!! looks good!!!
shakeyourbrakes 08-16-2009, 11:33 PM ings +1
Jedi54 08-17-2009, 01:08 AM I think Autobahn8 and NgoRX8 are the only ones here to post who have Authentic Autobahn kits.
replicas are not the same...
Ross_Dawg 08-17-2009, 01:11 AM who cares lol... get him John!!

Crap that shits hot. Where can I get myself one of those? lol
perks11 08-17-2009, 04:07 PM i really like those shake wish i would have gotten some it might have saved my front end from bottoming out. as far as lower im on tein S techs and also have 19" i live in the middle of missouri so the roads are not the greatest, i did have problems bottoming out. Shake as far as ive noticed a simple drop seemed to clear up all of the fender gap as you had asked earlier in this thread.
alex12345rx8 08-18-2009, 08:19 AM thats what im talking about.....

How does your kit handle MA? I am looking for a kit, but iven the pot holes every 15 ft around boston, I dont know if its all that great of a move. Im guessing based on the quoted thread that yours is tock height.
heyarnold69 08-18-2009, 09:21 AM love the added rubber! greatest idea ever!
shakeyourbrakes 08-18-2009, 11:18 AM yea mines stock height, with the splitters around here ive probably only scraped the front end bad once or twice this year..and that was mostly from not paying attention going up or down inclines.
Jedi54 08-18-2009, 12:07 PM Random thought: you know what's WORSE then having a replica???
going around and pretending it's real. I just love when people who don't have the decency to admit to themselves (or others) that theirs isn't the real deal yet they give advice as if it were.
Oh, and the siggys are hilarious.
the splitters on the bottom seem like a great idea but i'd be careful with those as Ngo mentioned. They can end up causing more damage.
shakeyourbrakes 08-18-2009, 12:24 PM My front and sides are Shine autobahn replicas, my rear is a Kenstyle replica, my wing is an ings+1 replica... Ill be the first to admit it, even though most people know that anyway. Sure it sucks, and id LOVE to have authethic parts, but if its between having my car look unique and having it look bone stock until I have the cash, Id rather have it look unique and save the cash. My 8, just like a lot of peoples are their daily driver so spending 1000+ on a unpainted bumper, then driving with it through boston, bumper to bumper traffic, the SNOW, etc etc just doesnt make sense to me. In addition I have over 3+ grand in my pocket that I saved taking this route that can go towards a house, and I could afford a lot better paint job and fitment work for the parts that I did buy.
I completely agree with you, but that where i stand on all that....
Spinning Sushi 08-18-2009, 12:27 PM My kit was full on authentic... made by shine.
Nothing's wrong with saying you have the "Autobahn" kit when it's a replica...
Hell, no one knows what the "Auto-Spec Aero Kit" from Shine Auto is, it's also a pain to say the long ass name.
pdxhak 08-18-2009, 12:33 PM 100% agree with Jedi and posted up the same thing in this thread and then deleted it. Just say what it is and not what you want it to be :)
shakeyourbrakes 08-18-2009, 12:35 PM ha, well ill be the first to change my sig if it makes people happy
Autobahn 8 08-19-2009, 06:21 AM Shakeyourbrakes...thanks for the pics. I gotta make something like that. But kinda don't wanna drill holes to the bottom thinking of 3m double sided tape and then clipping the splitter to the pumber on the back side. But probably too week, it might not hold. Well if I do creat something I'll give it a try.
I think we have the same eyelids. Mine are bought from Japan but don't know who it's from but I guess they might be KEI's?
gh8st....
Thanx for the comments. Ya I know TAS...had some friends go there before. I was originally from Placentia went to Irvine (UCI). Grew up in the states moved back to work after college. Yup the roads here sucks....I've got all sorts or noise with my suspension. With the heat and and bad roads I think all the rubber dampeners are all screwed.
Not too many Rx8 in Taiwan...a little over 100 of them. But dam expensive ..only the GT model is offered...cost me a little over US$52K......In the states you could get a nicer car with money.
Autobahn 8 08-19-2009, 06:35 AM continue....
My kit is authentic since even if I wanted replicas I couldn't even find them in Taiwan. And gettin replicas from the states plus shipping will cost more then the authentic from Japan. But I got a super great deal on it as I purchased it direct from Autobahn.....I emailed their website and I guess the owners friend in Taiwan contacted me. His friend is a car accessory import export guy. I just gave him a low ball offer and he agreed....so ended up gettin the full kit including the mirrors for about US$1300...I thought it was a good price when I compared it to Japan Parts. Some guy on the our site asked me for help before....but I can't find the Taiwan guy anymore....so sorry if anyone needs my help. The guy has vanished....oh the shipping to taiwan was free too since he smuggled it in in his 40' container without reporting to customs......hahaha done
Jedi54 08-19-2009, 12:37 PM ended up gettin the full kit including the mirrors for about US$1300...
 :Eyecrazy:
WOW, congrats on an amazing deal.
c0ldf1ame 08-19-2009, 05:28 PM are we still going on about replicas :boring:
pdxhak 08-19-2009, 05:53 PM are we still going on about replicas :boring:
Better get used to it because it will never go away. Not any different then discussing HP vs. TQ, Forged vs. Cast, Turbo vs. Supercharger and a ton of other topics.
NOTURX8 09-15-2009, 05:48 PM where the hell can someone buy just the Autobahn front bumper... on ebay it says it's a JDM, on google nowhere....
it's a bit frustating having a bunch of names for the same design jajaja lmao..

dam $1069 for just 1 front bumper ...
NOTURX8 09-15-2009, 07:02 PM japanparts.com
thanks for the website, but dam $1069 :flamed: for just 1 front bumper ...and not painted, and doesn't include shipping :suspect: i think I'll stay with my Mazdaspeed jejee
I figured maybe $300 or possibly $400 including the shipping ..... :ylsuper: but turns out this will have to be removed from te wishlist :banghead:
Spinning Sushi 09-15-2009, 07:06 PM You think that's expensive?
NOTURX8 09-15-2009, 07:11 PM well we all know when our ladies want to go shopping for shoes , you dont see them going to Payless jejeje
$400 - $500 for 1 front bumper & shipped is a reasonable price. If I were to find a used one I can say that $400 is fair enough and that's not lowballing anyone
NOTURX8 09-15-2009, 07:47 PM This bumper is hard to find.... dammit lmao
I think Autobahn8 and NgoRX8 are the only ones here to post who have Authentic Autobahn kits.
replicas are not the same...
jedi where can i buy an Authentic autobahn kit. the only place where i see them for sale is japanparts.com are those real. and are they sold in usa or do they have to come from overseas.?
Spinning Sushi 09-30-2009, 10:59 PM japanparts.com
so thats the only way to go. i saw yours it looked clean john. $1078 on japanparts.com.
Autobahn 8 10-05-2009, 09:38 PM rev8: you can go to the Autobahn website and try emailing them. I purchased mine directly from them at a cheaper price. But since Yamada-san doesn't speak or write English you might have to wait a while before he can get someone to respond to you. He had one of his import/export friends in Taiwan contact me. Ended up shipping was free since it was placed inside his 20 foot container as he imported many things into Taiwan. So you can give it a try. I eneded up getting the kit: front bumber, sides, and 2 piece shrouds with autobahn mirror for about US$1900 I think, it was really cheap. Don't know if it still works but it's worth a try.
www.autobahnsports.jp is the site. But for shipping you might need to contact your local fowarder for help to import that thing in yourself, I recommend going by sea. It'll take a month or a little less but it's worth it. So good luck!!
Autobahn 8 10-05-2009, 10:44 PM Sorry made a mistake on the price it was more like: US$1650 for the front bumper, sides steps (pair), and rear mud guard (pair).
thanks ill give it a try i really want that kit.
aw damn i dont know how to read japanese
Autobahn 8 10-08-2009, 02:31 AM I don't know how either hahaha just e-mailed the email address I saw on the website. But it worked right since I got my stuff. But hopefully he's got help for the US like he did for Taiwan. Then they can actually process the order for you in English. Good luck...crossing my fingers. Oh one other thing that price included the mirrors too....I left that out. So if it works it should be a good buy for the original!
Austin Dicken 10-07-2010, 10:43 AM i love what you have done to your car like the front bumper goes hard along with the eyelids i have been trying to find them but still can't oh well i just stuck with mine i have. also love the sideskirt it goes just as hard. i have been hoping someone put splitter's on this kit cause ino it is low actually going to ask how you put them on and if you could make a DIY or send me in the right direction to put them on. One last thing idk about the rear bumper i want to keep the ferri look but i think the rear bumper throws it off. although you have well put together it turns out nice. if you have any other ideas on the rear bumper please let me know. so far your's looks the cleanest.
Good job
RitchieRich 06-14-2011, 12:30 AM I'm just curious of what the clearance would be for the autobahn kit on an unlowered, unaltered stock rx8 ? Just wondering if that would decrease the chance of scraping or whatever lol I'm still a nub when it comes to this stuff so any and all help is appreciated : )
shakeyourbrakes 06-14-2011, 12:53 PM its low. Im stock height, look at my pics. Im used to it, but I cant imagine being lowered and getting anywhere.
Jedi54 06-14-2011, 01:54 PM I'm just curious of what the clearance would be for the autobahn kit on an unlowered, unaltered stock rx8 ?
such a thing exists???
NgoRX8 06-14-2011, 07:17 PM An unlowered autobahn kitted rx8 looks... not good.
I felt embarrassed having my kit without being lowered.
RitchieRich 06-16-2011, 06:23 PM such a thing exists???
I guess i had that one coming
Jedi54 06-17-2011, 07:28 PM I guess i had that one coming
yup, you pretty much walked right into that one. :)
