in your RX-8 or will you just be using it for the weekends and the commute to work? Can you actually pack enough luggage to take a trip in the RX-8?

I've taken two road trips and had no trouble fitting two people and plenty of luggage. We even managed to haul luggage and Christmas presents to my parents.

I've taken two looooong road trips (+1000 miles) and several shorter (500+). One of the really long ones included three people and their luggage for a week.

One of these people of which you speak . . . was this person smaller than full size, as in a child? I was just wondering how large a person would have to be to spend any real time in the back seat. Since there is noone else to drive my eight, I have never been able to ride back there. How did the back seat passenger take it, and the views of smaller children are also welcome?

We'll be driving from FL to TX in May, though I'll have the benefit of a support vehicle (wife's Santa Fe). We do have 2 kids, 1 dog, 1 cat, and luggage to haul. There's a tough decision - do I take with me the animals or the pets?

Take the wife, and leave the kids to drive the cat and dog in the Santa Fe. Sure it might be illegal, but it's the easiest on the upholstery.

i will be travelling to MELBOURNE FROM QUEENSLAND in my rx8 mid february a 4000km return trip , dont anticipate any problems except for the speeding cameras and the cops .

Going solo .

There's plenty of room - I've even been able to accomodate my son and two of his friends (18 & 19 year olds - 170 lbs each). No complaints from the back seat, and the car's ride and handling felt fine. Heck, my wife and I have done golf weekends with the Miata - 300 miles each way, and two sets of clubs in the trunk.

My 25 yr old sister, who, at 5'3, is admittedly not all that tall. But she sat behind my 5'10 husband the entire way from Rochester NY to Richmond Virginia and had no complaints. She actually slept most of the way. Now, I'm not going to stuff my friends who are over 6 ft behind my husband, but it was fine for my sister.

Years ago, I discovered how a friend made multi-hundred mile trips in a Lotus 7. They shipped their luggage ahead via UPS. I've done that a couple times with a CRX and the Miata.

I've taken one very long trip. From Minneapolis, MN to Tucson, Arizona.

Plan to drive back to Minnesota in May.



Anyone driven farther than that?

I am driving from ND to NM. Hopefully everything goes fine, and that the gas isn't to bad on a long drive like that.

Thanks for the response. I have been feeling kind of guilty about putting anyone back there at all because the windows are so small. I'm used to fairly large sedans that I really only ever bought because I wanted rear passengers to be comfortable, but at this point in my life everyone I know has a car of their own. However, it still comes up sometimes, so I've been wondering what to do with passengers. I think what I need to do is have someone drive me around in the back to get me over the fear. Thanks for the response because I had really written the back seat off for more than a thirty minute ride. I'll give it a try. Thanks again - H

I drove to Santa Cruz from Spokane with my wife over the holidays and we had a great trip. My wife did complain that the headrests were not adjustable but other than that she was fine. As for me no headrest needed adjusting.

We had plenty of room for oursleves, our luggage, and gifts both going and coming back. We could have crammed more crap in if we needed to but he we didn't need more crap to take with us or to bring home...

2 weeks after picking up my RX-8 in late July, I left on a 2 week road trip from Calgary to Monterey, California - round trip was 6600 km, or ~4100 miles. I wrote a bit about it in this thread (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9375) . It's a GREAT Grand Touring car!

Any plans on returning to Monterey? That's going to be my one BIG trip this year, but there will be (probably) four trips to Road America, maybe one to Amelia Island, maybe a couple of other shorter trips. Monterey is August, for the Monterey Historics.

Right now, it's one of several possibilities for our summer plans. We won't know more for another month or so. I would LOVE to be able to attend the Concourso Italiano and the Historics again - those events were like a dream come true, and I loved every second of it. If I am able to attend, I'll be sure to get in touch well prior, as I'd really enjoy meeting you!

(To the others reading this - if you have the slightest interest in exotic, classic, and vintage racing cars, then the August Monterey weekend is pretty much the ultimate event in North America to attend. Fast and Furious type cars are mercifully non-existent, these are real race cars, real performance cars, real exotics!)
