View Full Version : Additinal option for hanging gas cap
WHealy 01-01-2004, 01:51 PM I realize there's a small clip for hanging the gas cap on while fueling. However, more than once, I have bumped the cap while putting the nossel in or out knocking the cap loose.
I finally took some time bewteen mods to look at a simple piece I had purchased for my PT Crusier to resolve this issue on that vehicle as well. It turns out it fits on my "8" too with a slight modification.
The original install on the PT just frictioned the piece in. So you just stuck it and it stayed. On the "8", I added a piece of double sided tape. I don't think the adhesive is holding it as much as the additinal thickness doing the same thing it did on the PT.
If you are at all interested in this $5 mod, here's a link to the manufactuer's web site. (http://www.gotmypt.com/html/clip.html)
I'll also include some pics.

mmmdowning 01-01-2004, 02:37 PM Nice, Does that glue in place or does it use double sided tape?

On the PT, it just slides right in as it's the correct thickness. On ours, the double sided tape I used I think just made it the correct thickness. I assume you could just wrap it with masking tape for the same effect if double sided tape is an issue. My double sided tape is about an eigth of an inch in thickness.
8_wannabe 01-01-2004, 03:24 PM I will never understand why in the world Mazda could not have done that. Nice work!

i3man 01-01-2004, 06:45 PM 1. I pop the fuel door.
2. Get out of car.
3. Swipe credit card.
4. Grab hose.
5. Turn to car and unlock gas cap with left hand
6. Fill in gas with right hand while still holding cap with left hand.
7. Carefully pull out nozzle when tank is full.
8. Put back gas cap with left hand.
9. Put back hose.
10. Done, don't need no special contraption to hold my gas cap :p

The question is: how do you get out of your car?

The thread originator was all like "there's nothing to grab" and "I'm chafing the material on the seat." As I recall most of the advice he got was like "try laying off the donuts for awhile and it won't be so bad!"
