Running Rich
Running Rich
Hi,
My BOV isn't recirculated. Every once in a while i get a check engine light that flashes for a second and goes off. I hooked it up to my scan tool and the code was that it was running rich. It seems to only do this when im running in high rpm, or shifting a lot so it makes me thing the BOV is making it run rich. I dont really want to recirc it, but will if it can cause any problems. Will the car running rich cause anything bad to happen in the future?
thanks

Thats exactly whats happening. Since your MAF is a blow through, when you shift and the BOV opens, its releases the air that you maf has already accounted for. So when you shift and it releases the air, the fuel is already put into the chamber whether or not the air is there, causing a rich condition. Nothing bad will happen, only that you waste gas. Mine wont be recirc'd either.

It won't cause any damage, just get worse fuel economy.
I'll be sure to get some once I get it all together.
3" all the way from the turbo through a Borla XR-1 Race muffler(straight through) and then divided to twin 3" magnaflow tips. No cat, no resonator.... the biggest restriction will be the o2 sensor tips

isnt the turboxs exhaust also a full 3" system?
think alot of people are running vent to air, does it realy effect gas much ? happens when ur shifting so your not really on the gas in the first place

Yes. And it was less than optimal.
Not a fan of the HKS - well that is not true; the HKS is a nice good piston BOV; but the Synapse is better to me - I am a convert (have 'em on Faille's FD, my RX8 and MS6 and bought another 2-3 from Ray for my buddies).
Yeah, I've tried both.
The Synapse simply opens too easily, doesn't sound cool, is butt ugly and has edges that remove chunks of skin from my hands every time I even look at it wrong.
The HKS is better sounding, better looking and ONLY opens if it sees the right ratio of charge tube pressure and manifold vacuum. Its not progressively creeping open like all of the other valves.

Thanks for the replies. Some other problems I may be having, (not sure if its a problem or not), but at around 4-5000 rpm's there is a slight hesitation/loss in the push against the seat feeling, but the boost gauge stays solid at about 6 psi. Also when I let the car come to idle it almost stalls, sometimes the battery light even comes on, however, it hasn't stalled on me yet. Is this normal or not?
thanks
