My friend from Japan just sent me the Best Motoring DVD volume 9 with the RX-8 battle. I thought some of you might want to know the results: Rx-8 rapes all the cars in the competition. The race was on a Japanese track with nice turns and straight aways. The cars in the race were RX-8,S-2000,Golf R32,RSX Type R, plus one other italian car I think Puegot. All I can say was that I was totally impressed with the RX-8's handling and power. Even the S-2000 with V-Tec couldn't overtake the RX-8, with the S-2000 in the lead in the beginning but the rx-8 passing it about half way through the race and never falling back to second place. The rest of the results were S-2000 in second,Type R in third, then the Puegot and in last place was the VW Golf R32. It justs shows everyone that on the straight 1/4 mile there some imports that that are faster but on a race track our rx-8's are top notch. The real funny thing about watching this DVD was that I brought it over my friends house to watch it on his computer because it's a region code DVD and would only play on his computer. He has a S-2000 and his roomate has the Golf GTI and I have the RX-8 so we were all rooting for our own cars but when the rx-8 beat them all they were real quiet and shocked. I just had a big smile on my face and was happy to see the RX-8 on top!

That wasn't just any ordinary RX-8, that was a MazdaSpeed RX-8. Anyway, this topic has been covered, if you wanna know more, do a search.

 

What's up Danny, yeah it's been a while since we hung out. I down to go to the next rx-8 meet, give me a call to let me know when it is. I just put some new 18x8 rims on my car that look pretty sick that I want to show you! The rims are BBS mesh design with polished face with the inside of the rim gunmetal, it looks real aggressive and with the rims wider than the stock 18's it handles even better. About the rx-8 in the DVD it was the grey mazdaspeed rx-8 that was modded but it looked like they did more on the suspension than on the engine. All the other cars were modded too so it wasn't like the rx-8 was the only modded car!

Hey Thoai. Havent heard from you in a while! I tried calling ya way back when I was getting my windows tinted and never was able to talk to ya.

Everything ok? We should have a SoFla meetup again next month. Last "mini" meet had 7 or 8 cars show up. Saw 2 new exhausts, teh R-E intake and talked for a while about stuff and stuff :D

Say mid-late jan? I should have my CZ stage 1 by then too! :D

 

So where can I find true facts on the A-Spec/Mazdaspeed.

I find contradicting info all over the place, with NO factual backup of the data anywhere.

As far as I have "heard" the MS-A does only have an intake, and a slightly remapped ECU. But MS at SEMA denied any ECU/power mods.

are we sure this was a mazda speed and not a stock 8?
i know in the other battle it was a mazdaspeed, but thats a diff race.

Factual? well, if you believe Mazda Japan, you could go to www.mazda.co.jp and use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ to translate it (at least what is in html and not Flash or graphics...)

However, from what I've seen, they don't have too many details about it. Looks as if its not a finished package yet.

Sure, I don't have the exact specs of it with me now, but for what I can remember its the MAZDA SPEED RX8 with a lighter fly wheel YOKOHAMA ADVAN NEOVA tires, larger intake ports with an Mazda speeds exhaust and Mazda speed tuned coil overs.

I think they oil coolers have been upgraded too.

So, its not that drasticly diffrent from the stock RX8...the ADVAN NEOVA tires are supposed to be realy special though..

The look like Puegeot car is the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA... I drove that in Australia. It is a very hot hatch.

The MazdaSpeed RX-8 has only suspension mods. The power did not increase that much. You can tell that the car is driven better as it is driven by Gan san's son.... forgot his name

 

Did you guys also notice the S2K's driver hitting the curb...he almost lost it. Doesn't seem like it was a very good driver this time around.

And no, the Mazda speed has more than just suspension mods.

 

The driver was Gonsan...he is a realy good driver.

The S2000 was the S2000 V spec with a enhanced steering..


He might of not been used to that.

I knew that... but the suspension and the strut bar are the only major mods there. maybe the flywheel and the oil cooler. The muffler is just improve the HP by 5 and I think the 19" Neova does a lot too.

I think he is blaming the 16" he has in the s2000.

 

Pal, I had no idea who was driving it. I've heard the S2K is pretty snappy when pushed too hard, but I didn't see any 'pro' driver doing so in the 3 or so battles I've seen thus far. So either:

1. He was not used to the car.
2. He fell for the weakest link on the S2K (snap-oversteer)
3. He was (is) not a good driver.
4. He is (was) a good driver, and it could have happened to anyone.

Best motoring claims Gan san drives the S2000 faster than any body in Japan... it is only a mistake of Gan san to understeer and he is blaming the tires. Oh well. I like the S2000... for track. But it is a 2 seater and noisy at high speed that make me buy the 8... hey if I had the money I will have both! All .... 147 GTA S2000 350Z Porsche boxster S ALL OF THEM!

Gonsan is Honda's official driver. Thats why in all of his reviews he favors the Hondas.

All the Best Motoring drivers are profesional race car drivers.

I just think the S2000 V SPEC was not up the RX8 A Spec.

Plus, Gonsan has always been a agressive driver...he just messed up and should only blame himself..not the car.

Oh, I drove a very well tuned S2000 yesterday, very nice car..

I am just not the two seater roadster type either..

Plus, I don't like waiting fo VTEC..

 

just saw the video and the Mazdaspeed RX-8 does in fact OBLITERATE all the other cars, more so than i've ever seen Time Attack on BM...the cars where:
