does anyone know who makes the seats that come stock in the RX-8?

I was going to go there earlier but decided to just let it go. Nice to see it wasn't lost.

His question is less stupid than you think. There's makers of sportsy cars that use licensed, relabeled seats from a brank maker, let's say Recaro. Now if he likes the seats, but not the car, this question makes sense. Why ridicule it?

I believe HIX8 already answered the question. Most of us know that some cars may in fact be manufactured by companys like Recaro or Sparco (ie. Subaru STi). I think it's safe to say that no one here has been able to prove that the seats are not made by Mazda. We are just having a bit of fun with it and no harm was intended. Besides this forum would be pretty dull if everyone always answered a question with a serious tone. It's all in good fun, relax and enjoy the forum :p

yeah i was asking about who designed the seats not the makers, sorry for the unclear wording

By the way...

For anyone who may want to pop out the rotary accents on the seats, I found that this was very difficult to do without cracking the tabs.

Those things are designed to be put on and then stay on. Which is strange because underneath you'll find velcro tabs for securing the seat covers.

I performed the operation on cloth seats. Leather might be a different story.

err, at the very least, Mazda would have designed the seats and handed the blueprints out to some company in China to manufacture them...so even if Mazda didn't make them themselves, which i'm pretty sure they did, they surely would have designed them in-house...0 for 2, buddy ;)

The cloth seat covers should zip off so they can be dry-cleaned.

Not 100% sure how you deal with the rotary inserts or airbag areas tho.

i'd have to say the chief designer on the rx-8 car proabably had some influence.

Bank on the seats being designed and built by Mazda, or at the very least, by a specialty supplier (like the headlamps, for example). As a rule, when some "name" subcontractor like Recaro has input on the seats, you can bet that the carmaker's Marketing department will let everyone know, loud and long.

All depends on the contract. Actually, Mazda probably does not make the seats themselves...may, but doubt it. Working in auto industry (Japanese, but not Mazda), my experience is that the seats are probably made by a contractor. Mazda and the contractor likely shared the design. My opinion.
