View Full Version : Can you paint a CF hood?
05 white rx8 05-10-2009, 11:59 PM Im in the market for a new hood. Im looking at a CF hood but i don't know if i like the way it looks with my white 8. Wondering if it is possible to paint a CF hood? if so does anyone have pics of how this might look?
9krpmrx8 05-11-2009, 12:02 AM Why would you want a CF hood if you wanna paint it?
Fortunate Few 05-11-2009, 12:15 AM im not a fan of cf on my car but i like it on everyone elses car. it looks amazing on white i would keep it cf. but i might be buying a veilside cf hood soon. im going to paint it later on down the line but leave the triangle CF

I'm assuming for the weight savings. That or he wants the vented look. Either way, know that the RX8 hood is light as it is and the CF hood wont save much weight.
Jedi54 05-11-2009, 01:07 AM I believe it would be done mainly for looks. I for one, HATE the look of CF and have long wanted a Varis vented hood. when I get it, I will be painting it black to match the car.
so to answer the OP: yes, it's possible.
Jedi54 05-11-2009, 01:12 AM Never Fear, Jedi is here!! (this time...with pix!)

Ross_Dawg 05-11-2009, 01:36 AM whos sexy ass car is that?
Jedi54 05-11-2009, 01:39 AM that was imrtommy's car. He sold it last year. (very shortly after those pics were taken)
9krpmrx8 05-11-2009, 11:10 AM Yeah if you want a vented hood, etc then yeah paint it but if your gonna get an OEM style CF and paint it thats dumb because the weight savings are a joke.
cfm251 05-11-2009, 12:51 PM if you are gonna paint it go with FRP hood, they are cheaper than carbon fiber. Heres a site that lists a similar hood to the one pictured above.

****on a side note that CF MS kit looks nice!
Jedi54 05-11-2009, 01:01 PM that was an authentic Varis hood. It doesn't get sexier then that...
Renesis07 05-11-2009, 01:39 PM Ive always been a fan of the PARTIAL painted CF hood look. Paint certain parts of the hood and leave some CF, that's been on my desired mod list for a couple years now, I should get on that :lol2: .
rotarykillz 05-11-2009, 02:04 PM call me ignorant...isn't there a worry of debris/dirt/water (rain) getting through the vents? Or is a mod like this for dry driving only?
Jedi54 05-11-2009, 02:05 PM there's screens in those vents to keep out most of the debris.
Also, the hoods have a 'rain tract' on the inside that diverts the water should it be raining.
Razz1 05-11-2009, 02:08 PM Painting a CF hood is the best thing you can do.
pdxhak 05-11-2009, 05:33 PM Even though I have a CF lip, I'm not big into the look. I just did not want to deal with painting. If it were a bigger piece like a hood or trunk then it would be painted with some CF showing through.

SOME hoods do. the hood in those pics does not have the rain diverters. you can see straight through it.
genuine hoods from japan do have this though. but im sure a bodyshop (or you) could ghetto-fab something up to accomplish this.

From what you can tell, does this have the rain diverter?

Really looking at this since I don't want CF and this looks like a good alternative
nuke0907 05-12-2009, 01:21 PM nope you can see straight through. i took my rain diverters off. you really dont get enough water in to worry about. just dont go blasting a hose directly into the vents and you'll be fine.
05 white rx8 05-12-2009, 03:21 PM thank you for the help. and great pics of the white 8 looks amazing!
dezau 05-24-2009, 04:40 PM Do you guys know if the seibon cf hoods have rain ducts? it's raining almost everyday here during summer in florida. i mean like REALLY RAINNING!
TopGear8 05-24-2009, 04:46 PM ^I have the Seibon TS hood, and yes it has rain ducts.
dezau 05-24-2009, 04:52 PM thanks man
RX8Jamal 05-30-2009, 06:00 PM well if you were still interested in painting CF http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2478116 thats what it could look like when your done.
invasion08 05-30-2009, 06:07 PM I would paint a CF Hood. It looks cleaner and plus you dont want your car to look like a Ricer Honda
^ hey now...you've went too far XD
