There seems to be a door on the center console right behind the sliding door between the 2 front seats. The manual says it opens but I can't figure out how to open it. When you slide open the center cup holder compartment it gets covered. Does that even open?

I don't know how to use half the things in this car. I don't even know how to insert a CD since I only listen to news and talk shows on AM radio :p I wanted them to take out the 6-disc CD since I knew I wasn't going to use it. There's just too many buttons on that radio and it confuses me

Push the slider back all the way, then lift the whole lid up, away from you. You may have to push on the button while you lift.

You have really never opened it before?

I'll try that in the morning. I live in a condo and too lazy to go down to the car and try it now. I've been trying to get that thing open for the last week since I've had the 8 :p If I didn't ask you guys, I'd probably just leave it alone and never figure it out :D Thanks.

Merry Christmas everyone and drive safely.

How much do you want for the changer. I'll even throw in the single disc that I have? PM Me

i3man, reading the manual's really not all that painful. Especially since you've had some time in and exposure to the car. It should make perfect sense. I'd recommend you take the hour or so to delve into it. It'll unlock (no pun intened) many mysteries such as the console lid. Just a suggestion. It's what I'd do if I found myself wondering about some of the basics of my 8. Good luck!!!

I actually read the entire manual the 2nd-day I had the car :) It's only that console door that I couldn't figure it and the CD stuff I skipped right over cause I wasn't going to use it.

I"ve spend 8 hours so far detailing it :p

Merry Christmas everyone and safe driving...I'm off to go find somewhere to take some pics after all the hard work detailing my 8.

So did you ever get it open?

Forgot all about it today LOL...if I remember I'll try tomorrow. So I slide the cover back then flip the whole thing open (away from me) right?

What's in there? Is it like Pandora's Box? I guess I'll find out if I get it open tomorrow.

I think most RX-8 owners are fascinated by gadgets, which is why the rotary appeals to us. But for the gadget-challenged owner, the RX-8 is a confusion of buttons and features.

When I bought my RX-8 from Courtesy Mazda in Las Vegas I was given a 10 minute checkout of the car and its features, they wouldn't let me drive away without it. Didn't your dealer give you a walkaround? If not, return to your dealer and ask for a checkout.

Sorry to insinuate that you didn't read your manual. I misinterpreted something in the earlier post. Anyone that would devote 8 hours to detailing a new car has to be serious about things related to that car. Post a pic sometimes for us to see the beauty!!

WOOT!! Finally got it open :)

When I opened it there was this tiny little long piece about an inch long sitting in the compartment. Apparently one of those pieces on the side that slides in the track came off. I sat in my car for over 1/2 hour trying to get it back on but finally did :p
