Found out late yesterday that the final delivery of my blue RX-8 has been pushed back to January. I was expecting it to be ready today. I'm forced to cancel at this point because I'm off to the USA with work towards the end of Jan for nearly a year, possibly longer, so the car would just be shedding large chunks of money with no way for me to drive it except on very occasional trips home.
I'd been convincing myself that if I could have it before Xmas and get a good month's worth of fun out of it, the expense would be justified, but even that was a bit of a stretch. The really galling thing is that the poor thing has been sitting out in the rain and snow at the dealer for a couple of weeks now, waiting for them to slice through Mazda/DVLA red tape. Nothing moves quickly enough at this time of year.
Very disappointed of course, but it does mean I can pick up a fresh one, hopefully with any Mk I niggles ironed out, sometime next year or early in '05. Maybe a new and improved version will be out by then as well. If I'm feeling flush, perhaps I'll try to rent one for a little while I'm in the USA. I'll keep an eye on the forums here just to see how people are getting on. :)
Enjoy your cars, safe driving and have a Merry Christmas!
