Got this done this weekend. Although the lettering on the engine cover is a little week. I think I'm going to try something different there. But for now, this is the look.

The airbox shld be coloured as well. Looks a bit odd as it is now. Otherwise, the overall scheme looks quite cool.

Fab 8,

Woops. Forgot to point that out. I'm not painting it blue (that's got to be a shock!) because it's going to be a polished aluminum top cover (http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rx8intake.html) somtime after the next two business days. :D

Now that you have it actually done (instead of photoshop)...it doesn't look all that bad. As a matter fo fact I like it!. It turned out way better than I thought it would. It seems to have metalic flakes in the paint and I think that is what sets it off. WOW! good job WHealy. I might consider doing mine like that (mine is silver)

I like it but I think it would look better if the large expanse of blue was broken up by something, like stickers or a Rx-8 emblem.

moRotorMotor,

No problem. And the paint is detailed on the thread as well. But I'll repeat it here too. By the way, the Silver is the ground coat used to prep non-metal surfaces.

Sorry about that. Must have just missed your post and then went out to put on final coat. No secret on my part. The stuff I'm using (Duplicolor - Metalcast) is right here. (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalcast.html)

markppm,

I have to admitt that I don't know what that means. Sorry.

Is there anyway to just use the primer? I have a titty gray and actually like that quite a bit :D

Genom,

To be honest, I don't know. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer. I can't see any reason why not as the finish is the same as with the actualy paint. I seriously considered it between last primer coat and first BLUE coat. Even though I had already seen this color twice before, it was really the first time I thought it might really be a good color to stick with. But I had already agonized over blue or red and decided I was just sticking to my plans.

I like the coloured cover alot, but I think there're too much coloured panels. Would prefer just the main engine cover with colour, that way it gives a good contrast to the rest. Nevertheless, fantastic job WHealy!

Does everyone know you can get EXACT duplicate colors in a spray can? www.paintscratch.com I've used it on my blue WRX and my mother in laws 1991 Acura Legend that is metallic maroon. Both came out excellent.
