Few weeks ago I had gotten a Flashing CEL when I was getting on it a bit. Soon as I saw the flashing CEL I let off of her and drove her easy and it went away. I've since driven her hard without any problems. Last night I was cruising for awhile @ around 75mph then decided to get on her again. I started getting the Flashing CEL and slowing the car made it go away. I probably wasn't over 70mph when this was happening but had the rpms up there. I had just gotten an oil change earlier that day as well. Just paranoid and looking for answers. I have 99,500 miles on her and haven't ever had a problem and she runs like a dream. The only modification I have done aside from struts/springs is a Racing Beat cat-back exhaust. I've since brought her to redline and no issues. Anyone have a guess as to what the random flashing CEL is?

You need new coils. A Flashing CEL is a misfire. This usually only happens when in high rpms, but if they get bad enough, will happen all the time. It's about $140 for OEM and BHR sells an upgrade which I think is like 500. It takes 20 minutes to install the Coils yourself and is very easy. Just look up the DIY Ignition Coil Install

I'm pretty sure thats all it is, but then again I am no expert. Besides, you have 99k on your car, they need to be replaced anyway :)

hey guys i know this thread is old but same thing happened to me,high rpms and CEL flashing :( but i just changed the coils well the dealer did brand new set of coils and spark plugs ... so just wondering if anything else could be wrong or there's nothing to worry bout ??

It's almost certainly a misfire and even though the CEL doesn't stay illuminated under certain conditions it will still be logged on the PCM. However it certainly does not guarantee that parts are defective. Please don't start swapping parts out just because some numnut on teh intrawebz tells you to. It can just easily mean that you have a strong high compression engine. The first thong you should do is reset the eccentric shaft profile in the PCM using the brake pedal technique. A search will show you how to do it. Afterward you will need to let the PCM relearn itself for a while. If you continue to have the problem then parts need to be properly tested and then only replaced if proven defective.

my motor turned up shot, if in doubt and it's still under 100k miles have your dealer check it out. If I had done that I'd have a new motor, diagnosing it myself led to my car being a driveway warmer.

Don't forget to clean any possible debris off of the e-shaft sensor as that will cause erratic position readings and a CEL.

Dude, get your coils soon. Failing Coils can lead to a fried CAT...
