Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anybody had the misfortune to need to use their puncture repair kit yet? I am debating whether it is worth spending the extra money to get the space saver spare wheel for the RX8. My dealer has told me that he actually doesn't know much regarding the repair kit, and whether it is very reliable or not. Anybody had any problems so far??

Forget about the space saver, you loose half the boot permenantly for the very small chance of a puncture. If you do get a puncture, in the first 3 years you can call Mazda assist and get them to change the wheel or take you to your destination. It available anywhere in the UK or Europe. After that you can get an eqvilent service for £55 a year.

Only if you are in the middle of nowhere with no mobile coverage, or it would take assist hours to get there, use the tyre goo. But you'll have to get a new tyre afterwards, and that'll cost up to £180.

Dunno about the repair kit. I do know I've managed to get to 3 blowouts in 5 years of driving and once late at night in the middle of no where. Needless to say I went for the spare tyre. It doesn't quite take up 1/2 your boot space and I can still squeeze a full size golf bag and a slim sized golf bag in the remaining space.

Is the spare a space saver? If so does it sit in the recess in base of boot or hang from a carrier of sorts from the top of the boot (as in the accessories brocure piccy?) What rim size is it 16''?

I would go for the spare and suffer with less boot space personally - I have bad luck with tyres! Costco will order you equivalent Michellins (takes 7 dayes) they are £220 each ouch! Cheapest price for Bridgestones on the web I saw £172 and thats not fitted!!

Etyres.co.uk do an Avon ZZ1 for £140 if thats any good.

Apparently you can get test track tyres - i.e. they are just taken off the production lines and tested for 20miles on the factory track - you get them for peanuts - there were some advertised recently on the web £55 each (for the 8 size - Bridgestones)- no wear or damage at all?

The spare is a space saver that hangs like in the accessories brochure pic. Dunno about the rim size. I haven't even opened it up much less taken it out for town driving like I was planning too.

If it's the same deal as on my MX-5 the space saver is shorter than the standard wheel as well as narrower - makes the car lean over a bit and looks extremely silly. :/

thanks for the info on the spare tyre - do you know how much they cost at all - dont have the accessories price list?
